I’m a Cubs fan and I remember as a kid the classic game we had with y guys in 79’ 23-22. I always had the upmost respect for your team especially Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, and Tug McGraw. You guys played great baseball in the playoffs in 1980 and deserved the world championship.

I was 12 at the time, eating my Ellios pizza on the floor in front of the 25 in. console tv in my house in Bethlehem PA, while my Gram and our neighbor lady were watching from the kitchen when Schmitty hit his home run. I jumped up yelling and cheering and my pizza went flying from my lap while my Grammy and neighbor celebrated with a clank of their glasses of Schmidt's beer....one of my favorite childhood memories. Thank you Gram for giving me the love of the Phillies and thank you poster for giving me the gift of reliving these moments...awesome...

Well, how do I respond to that? I was 23 at that time and I remember listening to the game on radio. I have been blind since birth so radio is my main way of listening to sports. I'm typing this from Coplay which is in Lehigh County. I think it's so nice you remember family members when you talk about such a memorable event. I like pizza as you do. If you want to hear more, I can tell you about other sports memories which are really special. Go Phillies!!

Where was I? I was in Perry, Ga, having been moved there from Allentown by my mom and stepdad the previous year. Late in the '80 season I discovered I could pull in 1210 am after eight in the evening. So I'd been keeping up. That night, it was drizzling in Ga, and I drove around in our '73 Hornet trying to get reception. I must have put fifty miles on the car that night. Andy's "HE BURIED IT!" will reverberate forever in my memory. To be able to view this game start to finish, and then watch the celebration/booze shower/interviews afterward is an immeasurable gift. Thanks so much.

After 35 years. I finally had a chance to watch this. I had to work weekend evenings
at a place called H.A. Winston's on Elkton Rd in Newark,Delaware. (Best Burger's in
town). I could only take glimpses at the TV in the bar. I'm so glad I finally could see the game in earnest. If you could upload more games from the regular season that would be great. I'm not going to hold my breath though. The days of Prism, channel 17, and rabbit ear antennas and an occasional thing with NBC placed limits on TV coverage. thanks again for this true classic from yesteryear.

Plus the disco version of the theme from "Star Wars" as Schmidt circles the bases and slaps hands with the entire team. Great moment in Phillies history--later to conclude with their first World Series title ever against Kansas City.

Usually when you still score more runs than the other team, theyll let you win.

Unser should have caught that ball, Maddox would have because he played shallow with that speed to get back. Unser was playing very deep I guess trying to hold the runner at 1st from scoring if they got a hit. 2 thirds of the earth is covered with water the other third is covered by Gary Maddox.

Dawson leaves the winning run on 3rd base in the bottom of the 10th. Leaving men in scoring position was a specialty of Dawson. He was terrible in the clutch and the most overrated Expo of all time.

The only time the Phillies won it all (during this run) is when schmidt finally hit in the postseason. 76, 77, 78, 81, 83. He stunk. Even in the 80 NLCS he did nothing.

The Phillies didn't play in the playoffs in 81. It was the Expos and Dodgers. Schmidt did alright in the 83 playoffs but didn't do shit in the World Series that year. Still the best all around 3rd baseman that ever played the game. Only Babe Ruth had more home run titles, 9 to Schmidts 8. 10 Golden Gloves, 3 MVP's, 1 World Series MVP, 4 home runs in a row in a game and something most people don't know but he hit 4 straight home runs another time against the Giants. In his last at bat hit a home run and in his 1st 3 at bats the next day hit home runs. I can't remember how many times he was an All Star but I know it was something like 12 times. Also has the record for most home runs in a season for a third baseman like it was said in this video.

@@t74guard78 how old are you? There was a players strike in 81 so there was a divisional round..who do think Montreal beat to make the NLCS? Anyway, schmidt was 4-16, 2 rbi, and 1 HR in 5 games. So add that to his playoff choke resume.
