My Most Regrettable Modelling Purchase (This Is So Sad)

- My greatest regret, the scariest model kit in my stash, how I gave up on an almost finished model, and much more in tonight's Q&A video, because I'm still sitting here with a broken leg.

My mans broke his leg and is still uploading, what a chad.
still no beating Dave Grohl ;)
@@claeswikberg8958 unless your name is Kurt Cobain 😂 😂 😂
I hope everyone watches, and likes the video to support the modeling god that gives us tank videos.
Giga Chad
Well.... it's his job. :D
I would totally be ok watching that 2A3 Kondensator 2P build. That’s one of my favorite vehicles ever. I would love to see that build.
the kit is an absolute banger. have a very great time building at
Lol why in the hell would you make that your 1st model? Go pick up a few tamiya kits and finish those before you start on that kit. I have that exact kit in my stash and I have several kits under my belt since I came back to the hobby and I eont build thst kit for some time
Hope that you're feeling better and well on the way to recovery. There's an excellent build of the Kondensator on the web showing all of the plumbing and fittings needed to make it a piece of art. There's video of the one that was in Portola, CA , the Littlefield collection, driving around the compound, might be on Toadman's site since the owner's passing and his collection was dispersed.
SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give us the Kondensator.... 12 videos series. Worth waiting for!
Regarding the Russian howitzer... You could do a real how-to... How to research, where to find the pictures, etc.
That would make a great series to watch. seeing how the Master tackles a big job like that.
And the reserch part he would be able to do with his leg .
This HUGE howitzer pipe has to be made out of metal on the lathe. Because there are a few sizes of these guns and the longest is just hilarious.
Not to mention he could walk us through how to make a 'playbook' of sorts for getting a kit from start to finish.
Plus, there are major differences between it and your average tank- all that plumbing will require techniques not used on tanks, so how do you plan for that, set up tools and materials, how does that affect workflow and order of operations etc.
And yes Uncle, we would watch a month or two of it.
For a multi-vehicle (and multiple-figure) diorama, you could do something like a maintenance depot, where multiple tanks from the same side are in various stages of being torn down and worked on. Lots of potential for showing tank internals with open panels, engines being lifted out, etc., and figures interacting with the tanks and each other.
Back in the day (I am so dating myself) things like that were Francois Verlinden's bread and butter - but back then, there were no 'how to' videos, just very expensive (and hard to find) books that didn't really have much in the way of work in progress photos
A stug fire support scene would be cool too, maybe them digging in.
With his love of heavy mud etc, an "in motion" scene of a couple of t-34s moving fast at Kirsk or the like could be pretty cool too.
Some real possibilities for water and mud being slung of tracks with some very simple modeling and clear resin prints.
Why not a few 1/48 scale ww1 tanks crossing no man’s land.
I would totally watch a longer series! I know not everyone would follow the whole thing so I understand why you'd take that into consideration. Hopefully you can just do the projects you enjoy and we'll come along for the ride.
I would too.
A tank battle diorama at 1:35 scale, if the vehicles were a km away from each other, would roughly be 28 metres long. And now I really want to see that done.
make it a battle in the Western Desert to cut down on the amount of foliage needed
My most regrettable purchase was the ryefield models full interior sherman as my first kit ever
Did you finish it?
Oh god, I just bought this kit.
What made you regret the purchase? I ask as I have just bought the RFM Jagdpanther G2 with full interior……
@@stephen1942 I assume all the interior detail.
Ouch
Hey, I don’t comment a lot but I’ve been steadily watching your channel for a couple years now.
I’d just like to take a moment to thank you for never click-baiting, and always being straight to the point.
Also, hope your leg gets better soon!
5:58 if the unaccurate turret bothers you how about another "what if.." 1947 something modified tank with experimental camo..
Nightshift calls Adam Wilder’s magazines “Bibles”😂
Might as well be the ark of the covenant.... going for $200 on Ebay and Vol2 on Amazon was listed at $900
@@cliffherring7006 ...and Adam Wilder now exiting from selling the Wilder products pretty much makes any reprints very unlikely in the near future. :/
Don't feel bad for taking a week off, better to rest up than end up wearing yourself out.
A second decent option for a two-vehicle diorama is a convoy situation (where you have two vehicles driving along side-by-side, or another road scenario with two vehicles passing eachother.
I’ve been waiting all week to day this, seriously, you are the most entertaining modeler on CZcams. I always look forward to these vids, and I hope your leg gets better soon!
Edit: I think you should try the Soviet SP, I wouldn’t mind multiple construction videos
Here is my idea for the two vehicles - Even Historical one.
During Battle of Kursk. There were actualy many reports where Russian T-34's rammed German Tigers. I think there could be more to research. But thats probably the most plausible idea :)
Hope you're feeling better Mr Night Shift
For sure
Q: How did you break your leg?
Q1: Did you consider making a quick diorama on the cast as the plaster was curing?
😉
Thank you for powering through my friend! Glad to hear you’re on the mend 👍
Been waiting for this. Perfect thing to watch after taking an exam today.
Same. What is an Iowa test?
@@williamgandarillas2185 what are you talking about
@@coupergiuliano7486 I finished school two weeks ago. I suppose it's your last run of exams before vacations, the tougher ones
@@FredGlt yep, and this was just the sort of thing that I was wanting to see

10:35 I actually quite like the idea of a long-running series of "How to hyper-detail your tanks".
As a 40K modeller/player I'm largely at the mercy of what's in the GW kit. I've never really learned, or had the opportunbity to learn, how to go about adding that kind of detail to something. I've got the Forge World Modellers Masterclass book which touches on it, but i don't really feel like it's trying to be an exhaustive guide. I like to see a breakdown of the process, but also understand the reasoning behind why something is the way it is, or where it is etc.
This was nice, and I really enjoyed it. Thank you for continuing to create content during your recovery, Martin!
Great Video man! I hope your leg heals up soon and that you can get mobile again! I always get motivated when I watch your uploads!
3:01 Have you ever thought about the scene from "Kelly's Heroes" when Odd ball catches a tiger down an Alley shoots a pink paint splat before putting a real round in the rear?
YAY!!!!!! Glad to see you making videos despite the break!
Gotta love your dedication! We are all happy to see you feeling better!
love your videos, good content even with a broken leg, thanks for keeping consistent we appreciate what you do for all of us. And what you do for yourself. Take it easy man.
Great video, love to hear your answers. Hope your leg heals quickly and you are more mobile soon!!
This was an awesome video. Thanks for the insight, and I hope your leg is healing well.
For the aircraft thing. I have found switching subject makes me stronger in my core subject
Thank you very much for taking the time to upload this, get well soon
Best of luck with the leg. All videos are great to watch - not just building but the background is great too.
Glad to see you back at it building more kits. You sir, have the best job in the world (as in doing what you like). Keep up the good work.
I like these Q and A type video's as well, nice to see you keep posting video's although in a slightly different format. I'm so happy for you you did not brake your hand or arm, at least your leg isn't necessary modeling equipment ;)
Really like the fact you take time to make videos even with your broken leg! Interesting as always . Take care of you !
For the M103 I had a few ideas, for the hull, if you're really as nuts as you seem, you could use styrene to possibly make a roughish Tank destroyer super structure to replace the turret, however if you don't want to. You could use the turret as a prop in a post apocalyptic model where the turret itself matters little. And is a back ground piece, and you could use the hull in that "Vehicle driving past wrecked out vehicle" idea. With an alternate history. Being passed by an IS-7 or something.
Fantastic post Uncle! You brought a lot into perspective. Thanks so much for sharing your views on such varied topics. I'm post op from a very major shoulder and upper arm that got crushed, shattered so I'm trying to model almost one handed. We understand take your time.
Don't worry about building anything right now. Just take care of that leg. I in joy watching your channel. I've been building tank models since the 80's , and I'm still learning new stuff every day. I have Parkinson's and yes I still build and paint and weather all of my models myself. So hang in there and get well soon
Your experimentation with different techniques is one of the most valuable aspects of your videos. I know that I tend to follow my same, old steps, using the same techniques on every kit. As a result it's difficult for me to improve, and make a better product. Thank you for that. (I just need to find the courage to try some of those new techniques.)
Awesome as always, don’t short sale yourself. Heal up and god speed!
Great episode as always -with entertaining, interesting and valid responses to the questions.
Even in your predicament you say more useful things than some other modellers...
Get better...
Stay awesome! 👍
I hope your leg heals up well. You've been an inspiration during lockdown. Just a follow-up question though, would you ever consider a 1/35 scale armour model with a full interior?
I hope you recover completely and soon. Always enjoy your Videos.
Great vid, it gave us all a better understanding of your technique and you as a person. Stay safe good luck with your leg. Best to you and your family. ✌🇨🇦✌
Great info video. Nice job. Hope you feel better soon!!
I have stayed up till 2 to watch this and it was god damn time well spent
I enjoy all of the videos but the construction videos are my favorite! Love getting ideas on how to better improve models through kit bashing, creating new parts or missing parts from scratch, and just putting the personal touches on it. The painting videos are also great but I could definitely watch a multi-part research, construciton, and paint mini-series on that russian model! I know you are beholden to those who invest money into your videos but man from a subscriber/regular viewer this would be an amazing series and I would be behind it 100%.
Hi Martin! I hope your checkup was all good news! 🙏 Also, I hope that your ability to focus while on pain-killers has not been compromised...so you can continue to enjoy modelling & researching for your next build. 😀 I really enjoyed this video, and I admire your positive attitude, honesty, and fantastic sense of humour. 👍👍 Wishing you rapid healing! 🤞🤞
They say that “Perfection is the enemy of done”
Perhaps you could obscure the M103 turret with camo netting and tree branches/natural camouflage materials. I hope you are feeling better! I once broke my leg near the ankle, I remember how much it hurt every morning when I first lowered it off the edge of my bed. Get well soon, thanks for the content but remember to put your health first.
Hi Martin, I also like this video, it's good. I learned a lot from you, I like your works, they are beautiful, and even the ones you think are bad. The technique you use is fascinating. Keep it up and I hope you will have tons and tons more videos that will make us all happy. Many greetings and thanks from Serbia.
Helll yeah, its Friday! Been looking forward to this, hope you get better dude!
I agree!!
Good to see you. Hope your feeling better!
Idea for the M103; destroyed tank, with the blown off turret lying upside down in the mud to one side. It could even be an opportunity to try fire and smoke effects with cotton wool (I've seen it done well on spaceships, it may or may not work with a tank "in atmosphere"). You can even have a multi-vehicle diorama, with a Königstiger that just rolled up to the scene.
Hi Martin, I really enjoyed the Q&A a lot of questions being asked and answered, I have seen the P2 at the Australian Armour and Artillery Museum in Cairns Australia, as regards to that word ' perfection', I think it would have a different meaning to everyone, take care and keep safe, glad to hear your recovery is going well. Best regards from Australia
I really liked this video chat Uncle, and I am sure all of your supporters feel the same.
It was informative on aspects of your modelling career, and gave us an insight into your motivation.
A weekly post like this while you are getting well after your accident, would, I am sure, be well received by all of your followers.
Just concentrate on mending, so you are back to giving us your usual inspirational content as soon as possible!
Cheers from Australia!
Hey man, the Q&A was fun! Just heal up and chill, if you *want* to do a video maybe you could do another model tour? Or you could go over the models you've sold over the years?
Every video you make is a gem. Get well soon!
Definitely the video we wanted though!
It's great to get to know you better.
Hey man!
Love that you still upload Even after the leg stunt;)
Thought i would cast an idea your way video wise since we know it is not possible to continue on the tank.
How about a rating video??
Like.. we send pictures your way of our small projects and you rate what you see and maybe give your idea on how to improve?
It would help some of us for sure aaaaand keep you making videos so we can continue to hear "My frieeeends" every friday.
Kind of a weekly milestone for me to hear that.. All the best man, and Hope your recovery is Swift!
The buildings are how I found your channel. I'm not a military modeler though I appreciate good model building regardless of the subject matter. Glad to hear you are planning for more buildings and dioramas!
Thank God you're okay and healing up. Get well soon!
Thinking of you Martin. I hope your recovery is going well. Sending greetings from New Zealand
Really enjoyable content, hope you're feelin' hale & hearty.
Awesome Uncle. And learned something as always. Sci-Fi things are fun and kind of amour like. Best wishes and all will be well.
Can you build a land raider from 40k would love to see your take on it! :) hope you get well soon!
This video was not sad at all. I learned a lot about you. I'm glad you are posting. And you are in my prayers
I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed building a building because I loved those videos. So interesting and such cool results
also build models don't just collect them, stung me on that one
Hope you get better soon. I must say I can't wait to see you building the soviet 2A3, no matter how manny videos it takes!
Uncle, whatever you decide to put up is gold for us. Do what you can and let the rest wait. BTW I was amazed (read horrified ) looking at your selfie while being airlifted. As a first responder (retired) I have never seen such a flimsy lifting apparatus with what appeared to be zero restraints to keep you in the net. That would have scared the crap out of me! Anyway, I can relate to your Howitzer dilemma; I have a 1/32 Republic F-105D in my stash that I bought because I used to fly them. I had plans to really get into some super detailing based on my experiences with the Thud, but every time I open the box the enormity of the project stuns me. When I bought it I guess I wrote a check that I couldn't cash. Get better, let the docs do their thing, and be happy.
Hi Night Shift. I believe your leg will get well soon. Think positive and keep creating your models. Several years ago i had an accident with my motorcycle and i saved from losing my leg. After 6 surgeries and 5 years and with a big help of model making and patience i walked again. I wish you the best with your health.
Martin, I was doing a recap on a couple of videos, so hence commenting when this video is 5months old, judging from some of the previous comments I believe it’s fair to say us viewers would welcome your build series on the Russian artillery piece. Us builders being naturally patient would endure a series build of many episodes, especially with your entertainment skills. So hope you get this comment for the start of 2022 and a Happy New Year to you and I hope the build can be planned into the year ahead. Keep building, don’t just buy them 😉👍
Hi, Uncle Nightshift
hope you get well soon and can start modeling soon. I know that situation ,when you can’t do anything ( I’m currently sitting here with a broken thumb and can’t do anything).
Greetings from Germany
Max
Please don't think you're letting us down or anything, i thought the little insight into your modelling life was great......and i've said before, longer video's would be great, hope you recover soon buddy, all the best.
Dude ,just relax we all are going to be waiting for you to get better. It's nice to see the really person on the end of the microphone. I enjoy all content that you put out. I've been to Europe a few times on mountain bike vacations but sadly I haven't made to eastern Europe which I would love to ride someday. So the content about you riding I find very interesting as well. Well get well soon, take your time, don't push yourself.
It's great to hear you talk about the craft we all love as well as seeing you smile and laugh again. While you are laid up with your bum leg, maybe you spent this time doing some 3-D model for various future project.
Can believe I haven't seen this video until now. You should DEFINITELY do a multi episode video on the Soviet SPG. We are here because we love your attention to detail, and seeing what you can come up with as far as little extras you put into the model/diorama always blows my mind 😁
Hope your leg is good! Get well soon!
Great vid, really enjoyed!! 👌😉🙂👍
Hopefully your healing well. Your health is FAR more important to us than an upload schedule. Get well Uncle.
Awesome content!! Thanks for doing! From NL, Canada
Glad you are still alive! Was figuring you had modelling withdrawals and died in the last week.
Glad you are healing up fine, man.
I would thoroughly enjoy watching you build that howitzer!
Great idea with a Q&A - a good way to get to know Uncle Night Shift better
hi Dear Martin
hope you are better
wish you fast recovery
I didn't think we were going to hear from our favorite uncle this week. Hope the stitches came out OK and the leg heals quickly. Cheers!
Take care buddy, even with a broken leg you are a hero🤗🤗
Not the video we deserved? This was awesome Red. Flow and 'a system' is where I struggle. I get lost on each project. The insight shared I found to be pretty cool. Get well soon my friend.
I'm glad you are doing well,it's hard to get through a week without a new video :) One model I almost tossed against the wall was an early Dragon Hummel,it was an absolutely primitive nightmare.! I think it would be cool if you built a diorama of a helicoptor lifting out a wounded bicycler :D
I actually did toss a model over my shoulder once (individual link track weren't going well). It was a training vehicle based on the Hetzer..... darned thing bounced a few times, chipped a couple parts and in the end it got finished and is resting in my display case now.... Like your idea of the chopper rescue, and he does have reference footage....
Bro I've just been busy for a few months and you had a broken leg? Dang and still uploading? Hoping for a speedy recovery, what a chad
I enjoined this video.
Like all your videos, it's way more than I deserve.
Hope your leg is better.
Hi! For the M103 heavy tank from Dragon you can do it as a tank from world of tanks because this tank is actually in the game and have the samedi tiret as the one in your kit. So you can do it without rebuilding the turret, find a cool camo from the game and do it with all your aftermerket kit without doing it with an historical approach but more with a kind of what if approach or something like that! 😊😁😊😁
Someone has probably already mentioned it, but for a normal range tank v tank engagement there’s the option of making two (or maybe more) separate small dioramas and to display them just put them across the room from each other!
the quality of your work it waht keeps me interested
For the multi-vehicle query. Possibly a knocked out tank that was hiding in a building but now rubble covered. Tank and a few troops passing by.
Great Q&A!
Night shift: I’m not a rivet counter or anything when it comes to models
Me, who builds every model out of the box: what does that make me then?!
You are making your own artwork in your own way , as put by Harry Houdini 👍
Thanks for the insight to your modelling world
😉👍
Good morning Uncle Nightshift, hope the leg is recovering and look forward to your next video.
This video is actually really enjoiable. If you ever feel sick, or not well at all in the future however feel good enough to cut and upload a video, then I really like to see something like this again. Also, nice studio :D. See you soon in the next video, I hope youre getting better every day :).
I'll be honest here, my favorite videos from you are construction videos. A solid month of them would be fantastic.
Biggest regret: About 40 years ago I finally got a kit of the FW200 Condor having always loved the shape. I think it was a Revell kit, but the fuselage was totally warped. Much unhappiness 😞
