Repairing My Vacuum Pump

  • During use, my oil bath vacuum pump failed to start (it had just been in use). I use this primarily for resin casting and stabilizing for use with wood turning and I was in the process of stabilizing spalted pen blanks.
I checked the start capacitor first and that did not seem to be the issue and there was an obvious sludge buildup in the oil bath that was not draining out when the oil was replaced. So, I took the pump apart for a post-mortem and then decided to see if I could clean it out and get it working again - with a neat visual on how this style pump works.
I did not have the camera in the best of positions (I thought it was decent while looking through it) and then bumped it later in the filming - which I did not notice until editing after the pump was back together (foreshadowing). I hope video still proves useful for others though and decided to post it anyway.

Great video and tutorial, not that I am going to take my pump apart. I love my screwdriver, thank you.

Hopefully you never have too, but it might be more handy to remove the oil house cover when changing the oil. That was my lesson learned!
