There are 2 reasons the alien did not kill you, the alien saw you through the fencing and was going to go kill you, BUT because you just met the alien and im guessing this is not nightmare then the alien wont be as advanced as it is in the later stages. Because it has not evolved yet or "unlocked" more of its nodes.
There's quite a lot of breathing room for what's considered "out of sight" in this game. Often more than people realise. I think the alien has to see a certain portion of your body to "detect" you, but because in the video it was just their head poking out slightly at the top, it was *just* enough to not die at that moment. That stuff _might_ scale with things like difficulty or movement speed, but I haven't found any solid proof of such mechanics. The AI is truly unpredictable at times.
@@Dan0RG The alien at the start with Normal difficulty has really bad vision, also even though you can see the alien, your hitbox is not within sight, same case in mission 16 where you can see the alien clearly under a pool table, but the alien cant see you. Also if you look at the body in 3d its only legs and arms, the head and body gets added when certain actions happen, and only for split seconds.
Pretty sure the A.I. knows the player is around the corner, but it won't act until they walk out of the cover. Also the player is probably in a lower difficulty than nightmare.
That's literally the modus operandi in some places on higher difficulties. I finished the game on nightmare for the 4th time a couple of days ago and in the leisure time zone (?) in Solomon's habitation (with the long narrow corridor and the generator you have to restart when you blow the fuses at one point), I spent about 5 minutes just crouch-walking around one of the blocks of computers, just hiding from the Alien like you did and keeping my distance.
The whole game was a close call for me, and I've only had the balls to play a single playthrough.
That aside, it was a fucking awesome experience
