    As a request from Beatles Instrumentals and More, here it is my attempt of a stereo mix of The Beach Boys 1965 single only A-Side, ''The Little Girl I Once Knew''.
    No true stereo mix of the final release exists due to allegedly some of the sessions tapes being recorded over by Brian Wilson for some other sessions. So, this stereo mix was done by using most of the final instrumental stereo track and the best source for the song in its final mono mix, syncing them and avoiding phasing issues as much as I could. I didn't attempt to extract anything from the mono mix as I didn't want to risk to degrade the sound quality of the song, which isn't the greatest.
    Enjoy!

    WOW! I'm listening to this in premium headsets, and the instruments really come out on this remix! I've been a HUGE Beach Boys fan ever since I heard Surfin' Safari back in '62. Greatest harmony group ever! This is an awesome remaster of this song. Can't believe this wasn't on the "Sounds of Summer" album, that would have made it perfect.

      What a ** GREAT ** remix of this song! The vocals are at a good level, but bringing the bass, organ, and drum right up to the front... fantastic. The same thing should be done to the background vocals on a lot of songs... they're too far back in the background!

    This is the greatest! Turn it up, turn it right up. It's GOT to be a hit. It's the greatest record I've heard for weeks. It's fantastic. I hope it will be a hit. It's all Brian Wilson. He just uses the voices as instruments. He never tours or anything. He just sits at home thinking up fantastic arrangements out of his head. Doesn't even read music. You keep waiting for the fabulous breaks. Great arrangement. It goes on and on with all different things. I hope it's a hit so I can hear it all the time.

    When that brilliant instrumental intro reappears at 2:04, all you can do is marvel at the musical genius of Brian Wilson.

    This is awesome! Brian did a brilliant arrangement. It's impossible not to smile after listening to this song. This stereo version is just fantastic! Great work :)

    When Brian has his nervous breakdown, It was sad But! Not touring allowed Brian to be in his true element. The recording Studio with Pro. musicians, Writing and Creating the most Spectacular Tracks ready for Vocals to be added when The Beach Boys got back from touring. And these tracks with vocals are True Classic's to this day.

    Oh wow I just realized you had to extract the vocals from the mono for this.
    A lot more impressive then I originally thought, nice job.

      Well, the ''extraction'' method I used here isn't the same as the one I'm currently using (for example) on Good Vibrations. However, I did try to isolate the vocals just enough that when syncing them up, phasing effects would be heard up to a minimum.

      How is the SMiLE mix going? Any problems you have run into?

    • @theonebeachboymaniac7326
      @theonebeachboymaniac7326  Před 7 lety

      Almost 25% of the Stereo reconstruction has been completed. Work on the current track is half-way finished, currently isolating the lead vocal for it and hopefully, be able to isolate a very buried backing vocal from one section up to listenable quality. Certain tracks that have been pre-mixed in stereo for The Smile Sessions, their position of the tracks I don't feel confortable with them or have other effects where in bootlegs they do not. I do not want to utilize that many lower quality sources in order to have the stereo mix I have in mind. Also, time constraints due to personal instability (unrelated to the stereo remixing/reconstruction of SMiLE) have made work on it to go very slow. I'm currently trying to stabilize those issues first, so that I can continue the reconstruction without any worries.

    • @StereoClassics
      @StereoClassics Před 7 lety

      Well a lot of us are incredibly excited to listen to it. I will share it across all the boards I know to get people to listen to the best stereo version of SMiLE out there, which I already know it will be.
      Do you think your version of Good Vibrations will be better than the official one? That one will be hard to beat.

      I really appreciate your support, and hopefully, it will be a won-won-wonderful experience for you all. Though you will have to be very patient, as it is most likely that I will finish it by the end of the year.
      Only the final result will speak for itself. I am using what I feel are the more driest and better mixed sources. That 32-second snippet from the last video is giving you the idea of how it's going to sound.

    Why Capitol issued some of the stuff in a near mono simulated stereo on CD is beyond me, when they can ask people like you and I to go into a strudio and sync up all those 4 track session tapes to make a REAL stereo mix

    • @theonebeachboymaniac7326
      @theonebeachboymaniac7326  Před 6 lety +3

      Who knows, perhaps a lack of will over even attempt to sync the tapes, or because they may not have the tapes available or certain overdubs were done during mono mixdown, they probably think people can be fooled by just messing up with EQ or any other ''stereoizing'' techniques over the final mono mix (like their infamous Duophonic process).
      There has been exceptions of course, starting with Pet Sounds, then the late 90's early 00's mixes for certain Today-Party! tracks, the still experimental, listenable but harsh 2012 stereo Good Vibrations, the 2012 Smiley Smile album and up to the 2017 Wild Honey album (except for Mama Says) being released in stereo.
      But yeah, I could dare to say that with at least a stereo backing track available, a complete stereo mix with all the mono elements is possible (a few examples I can think right now: Good Vibrations, The Little Girl I Once Knew, Hang On To Your Ego, practically every SMiLE track from the handwritten track list - except for a missing stereo section for Fire -).

    Pet Sounds sample song. I totally love it! (Even John Lennon said this was their best song).
    It's awesome to hear it in stereo, it sounds clean and crisp. Can't wait for the download link of Pet Sounds! (I think you should add this song to the album)

      @theonebeachboymaniac7326  Před 8 lety +4

      Thank you for your comments and glad you liked it! Well, I don't know if Lennon did said that but here it is a quote from him when the single was released:
      "This is the greatest! Turn it up, turn it right up. It's GOT to be a hit. It's the greatest record I've heard for weeks. It's fantastic. I hope it will be a hit. It's all Brian Wilson. As for putting this song on the Pet Sounds download link, I don't know if I should, it really doesn't belong there; it's not like Good Vibrations where, although not intended and wouldn't fit on SMiLE, it probably would have been there because of commercial boost reasons. This isn't the case for The Little Girl I Once Knew.

      TheOneBeachBoyManiac Well, if I remember well, this song was recorded in between of Sloop John B and You Still Believe in Me. So, it might be a little confusing.
      May I ask for a remix/remaster of Let Him Run Wild? I think the stereo mix is rather weak compared to the mono mix. Hope you can do it :D

    • @theonebeachboymaniac7326
      @theonebeachboymaniac7326  Před 8 lety +1

      RealSoundAdrian , yes, the song was recorded between two Pet Sounds backing tracks, but this one was completed in two October sessions and released less than one month later.
      I will have to check what is available in order to see if a stereo remix of this song is possible.

    • @thejiggy22
      @thejiggy22 Před 8 lety +1

      You should try synching the stereo backing track of Let Him Run Wild with the alternate mono mix of the song, which features a much different vocal take the regular version. I think that'd be really cool! I absolutely love Let Him Run Wild, I actually put my own remix of the song on my alternate version of Pet Sounds, as much of a sacrilege that may be considered. I just felt like it needed a 14th song to even it all out!

    • @theonebeachboymaniac7326
      @theonebeachboymaniac7326  Před 8 lety +1

      Scott G , I try to do stereo remixes using what was used in the final release. I consider a mix as an alternate version when other takes are used in replacement of the final ones.

  • @tomchristie3199
    @tomchristie3199 Před 5 lety +1

    Oof, it falls apart a bit when you put it in stereo doesn't it. The accordions (?) in the right channel aren't in the pocket at all, but they got away with it when it was all blended together in mono.

    • @theonebeachboymaniac7326
      @theonebeachboymaniac7326  Před 5 lety +2

      I think it's an organ with a tremolo effect. And maybe they are somewhat off-sync, but I did try to sync it around the mono mix as much as I could. If I ever remake this, I might try to sync each track separately to make it more precise, though I feel that will rob the authenticity on how it was originally recorded.

    • @tomchristie3199
      @tomchristie3199 Před 5 lety +1

      For sure - I've no doubt Brian wanted it 'loose', even more overtly so on Let Him Run Wild than this track. It's just interesting to hear how those ideas sometimes translate into stereo successfully, sometimes not.

    • @theonebeachboymaniac7326
      @theonebeachboymaniac7326  Před 5 lety +2

      I re-listened the mono mix again, and I think I should have mixed the organ overdub lower as it originally was mixed very low and it blends better that way.
