Josh Bardwell made it into a Linus video! Some of us have been doing this stuff for years so I wanted to point out that the DJI FPV stuff is incredibly expensive, as much as 10X the price of stuff we normally use. It also has a lot more latency and is far too slow for racing drones. It is also much bigger, heavier, and overheats more. But yes, FPV rc cars are a lot of fun. Flying with FPV is so much better though that I hardly touch my cars any more.
DJI OcuSync might be expensive, heavy and relatively high latency, but it provides an HD link! And in the case of RC car racing, i would argue that this is potentially a good trade-off. Latency is low enough, weight doesnt really matter and if the price can be paid...why not? Most visitors at LTX probably have no clue about FPV systems and would be disappointed with standard quality.
Oh dear god. Hopefully linus doesn't discover and make fpv mainstream.... A bunch of people will flood the scene and more rules will make it impossible to fly!!! hey guys, if you liked this first person video car (fpv), you should DEFINITELY check out fpv racing drones and quadcopters, it's like flying in a cockpit of a drone, doing freestyle tricks and rolling, going thru gaps and all that good stuff, it's a hella of an adrenaline rush, im an enthusiast myself and i can't believe that i live in a time where i can pop on some goggles and just fly, like a bird, more like a really badass bird who does rolls, tricks and i think you get the point... i think you'd enjoy it xdd
Blueeyedmerle varies, but a nice indoor/outdoor quad is the US/UK65 (brushless tiny whoop class), half a dozen batteries (quad comes with charger), then a FlySky i6 and a pair of $100 budget goggles is like $250 If you want a speed freak (100+ mph and takes a beating hitting trees and fences at 80 mph like it’s nothing, and you will smash into things...), then the Diatone GT R349 is a fantastic quad with high end components and the best carbon fiber job I’ve ever seen. The Quad is $180, and batteries are about $12 to $18 (varies if you get 1 or a 4 pack, get the 4 pack, you’ll be smiling for longer!). You’ll have air that with a micro PPM receiver or get the BNF option, but it’s seriously just 3 wires. That would set you back about $320 to $350 in total, but don’t fly it in your house unless you want some new “skylights” added, haha! My goggles are super dated, I haven’t had a reason to upgrade other than I might opt for a DVR recording option, but they were like $80 way back in the day (I think that included VTX too). I actually preferred them over my friends Fatshark goggles (mine are 480p and standard monitor aspect ratio of 16x9 like I’m used to, I haven’t games on 4:3 like the fatsharks in a while and it felt weird) I’d also get a $8 soldering iron and $5 in solder so your prepped with good tools when you need them, the Diatone is actually really nicely thought out and easy to solder. I haven’t broke anything on it yet though, and with my flying and crash rate pushing it to 1 crash per minute, then that’s a miracle it lasts even a day (0 cracks, no smashed lenses, just bent up props. Trust me, those tree and fence incidents at full throttle were not made up, I’ve never seen a battery fly so far away...) Get extra props and have fun! (Batteries used on R 349 is XF Power 4s 850mAh 70c with XT30 connector, I think it was $40 for 4 batteries), you may be slightly over 250g weight, go with 750mAh if your worried about it.
As an avid RC enthusiast, I'm glad you did this all the right way, did your research, and didn't slaughter my hobby. Also, if you think a slash is expensive, you're in for a deep, deep rabbit hole.
@@lucasrem WTF are you talking about? If you mean unreal engine, then Who the fuck asked you? Unreal engine is shit, "mining in the background" like performance. Even some games decreased graphics setting to mario levels, the engine still burning your GPU with 60fps limit.

I kind of wish they would include (a little) rc coverage, especially for the pc/ rc crossover communities
Agreed. I've been into it for 5 years now and I can certainly say RC is an extremely underrated hobby.
the channel super fun potential of this...
it's time for a revival?
Heck yeah
One of their best projects I've ever seen.
I just thought of this today and I knew I was going to be late to the party! Thanks for video!
This is my favorite video from you guys! You should throw this system on a drifting RC car and run it on a track. It is insane!
Damn the new Re-Volt remastered looks lit.
exactly what i thought: making a real-life re-volt game, how awesome is that?
I remember that game! xD
It was fun!
Re-Volt VR...holy shit
I want this so bad... can't wait for the follow up! You should really look into adding force feedback to that thing! Maybe after LTX...
you guys are freaking amazing.
Ah new channel super fun video! Oh, wait..
RIP
wut
Yeah Im like this should be on Channel Super Fun
I thought this is channel super fun too D:
"Channel Super Fun For LTX"
I genuinely cant wait for the next video on this subject. Great idea Jake!!
This is cool. Please do more diy projections like this! 😁
I SO need one of these in my life.
so awesome, imagine rc racing with a setup like this. You should organize a race event where people can come with their own versions of this and race each other in the "LTT 500"
The last time I measured the resistance of a component with the rest of the circuit attached, I failed a pratical exam in college... RIP me.
Yeah, I can see why it would be a bad idea.
Yeah... that's like one of the first things you learn you've done wrong in any introductory circuits course. They probably should have gotten help on this project from someone who understands at least some electrical engineering
@@alzhn In this case since the voltage sense pin (to which the pod is connected) will probably be High-Z so it doesn't matter for strict resistance measurements. Especially not for "close enough" measurements like this.
@@EraYaN yeah it's true, I'm not saying they did it wrong, clearly it was enough, I was just sharing my sad story ahahah
@@EraYaN I mean, the steering and throttle pots would probably be in parallel in the original controller if they're used as a voltage divider, meaning you'd measure half the resistance if they were the same...
Come to think of it, that could be why the throttle response is so bad here - the steering wheel and pedal are separated
Awesome of you to shout out rcsparks!! Also when you started singing coming round the mountain, you sounded like steve carell in the office
Latency issues in fpv racing isnt really an issue imo. Even a $125 usd tinywhoop does a great job
I thought this video was from Kevin Talbot, ahaha amazing how you guys are using RCs!
Great video! You should have collaborated with Flitetest. They really know their RC and FPV.
I love flitetest
Been flying fpv for a while... love the show!
THIS IS AWESOME!
I'm repeating my comment from floatplane. FPV RC laser tag do itttt!!!
Channel Super Fun revival!
Whats Floatplane??
...... oh! ....BURN!
LINUS U GOT TO DO THIS !!!!
Try checking out Robomasters
It’s a competition for college engineering students made by DJI.
It’s Team RC robot and drone combat.
OK Now this is actually a REALLY really cool idea....... I never would have thought of this, Hopefully camera technology for this gets better, because I wanna do this XD lol
only problem is latency. 720p is godly beleive it or not
fpv
This was awesome! Also liked jake in this video =)
Damn... that's actually amazing
wow a irl RC bandito? does it also cost 1.5mil
nah, this is a brushed 2wd traxxas slash, about 250 - 300 usd on its own with a decent lipo + charger.
the fpv stuff is the most expensive though, about 500 - 700.
There are ofc cheaper & smaller stuff out there that has like 360p 60 fps & similar. Like these guys over at flitetest has. czcams.com/video/18seUg-uNqg/video.html
These tiny cars does about 18 - 25 km/h.
Appreciate the detailed informative reply (even tho I'm not OP) but it's a joke that references the RC Bandito, an RC car you can buy in GTA Online. It's an RC car that costs more than the original most expensive super car in the game (the Adder) lmao
@@MinecraftAnd9646 yep, knew that but figured id put in that the cost can be done cheaper, being bored at home atm heh.
Your talking to a man aka Linus who bought a rc car that is so fast it can drive in water and he’s saying he wants a slow one 🙄
@@Zahoodo Wasn't it supposed to go to some event? You don't want this thing ripping around the place and smashing into people and potentially injuring someone
i love how linus said "The Graphics the graphics...its irl!"
Amazing concept i really like it
I'll be waiting for that second part.
What about FPV RC Plane control? :D
I think they did it last year.
Basically the same as the FPV racing drones. But with a plane. I'm sure it's been done already. Just like this should have been really easy to do with most of the same hardware. They're just adding difficulty by using PC controls for the car.
you want do cause a major crisis? like....next step war type alike?
I think that's pretty common already, you can buy cheap planes with cameras builtin.
@@DoubleMonoLR yeah, or istall them yourself
THIS WAS AWESOME!
now put a threadripper on it.
we need more of this!!!
OMG RC SPARKS I LOVE ARRONS CHANNEL shout out to you man, been watching the channel since skate park pain 1!
Wouldn't it be really beneficial to put the FPV camera in a sort of a stabilizer mount to reduce the vomit inducing?
Go to the guys at flite test for good fpv and go to proline so can get a fpv body.
YES!!! SICK
This is a really cool project!
You should contact #FliteTest guys and make it together. Those guys are crazy and bulid everything what can you image on RC based fun.
They are very competent and have a huge amount of KNOWLEDGE.
was going to mention them. They also do FPV at venues (FliteFest) so making the video reliable in those conditions is something they know tips for.
i was gonna mention them too lol
and it would also boost both channels i think
LTT Needs to go hang out with the guys at flitetest
amazing! more footage!
Thanks! I always wanted to do this!!!
I thought it was an ChannelSuperFun video, miss the old times...
Guess you haven't watched ltt for that long. Once upon a time there was only 1 or 2 channels depending on how you look at it (ltt and ncix tech tips) . Those were the good ol'days. ;)
But nothing is as responsible for the good old days then a bad memory
@@arvidjohansson3120 I also know the time way back at ncix, but that was an other sort of fun. Something like this on csf would be an office race and the winner could design the working space of the loser.
... or get his car painted
@@siedenburg1 that sounds like an amazing idea. But Chanel super fun was all about nicky V in my opinion.
Hopefully it will become one
Shoutout to Joshua Bardwell for best FPV Camera's.. I build and fly FPV drone's so was nice to see him in the top results
This would be awesome!
that wheel you're using was literally my first racing wheel that i used with a ps3 for Gran Turismo 6
Ey Joshua Bardwell videos. Someone at LTT learned something that day. :P
hope so :)
look like they learned nothing, cuz you can buy better setup for MUCH less :D
@@tmb282 haha exactly
@@tmb282 they traded money for convenience; I see nothing wrong with that. The time they'd have spent learning how to set up FPV is much more valuable than what they the money they spent on the pre-made setup.
@@shanzid01 yeah, I now, but they just can go to local hobby shop with FPV equp and ask. Or collaborate with other youtubers from FPV community ;) googles are great for a non-hobbists, but camera a VTX looks waaay too bulky and fragile for fast RC car...
Wow a really good video 1st like than watch! Best YT #TeamLinus
Awesome videos! I can use this on my own channel in the future 👍
Wow how cool is that?!
Guys, listen, you NEED to make another LMG office tour, with the RC car, okay?
hey guys, if you liked this first person video car (fpv), you should DEFINITELY check out fpv racing drones and quadcopters, it's like flying in a cockpit of a drone, doing freestyle tricks and rolling, going thru gaps and all that good stuff, it's a hella of an adrenaline rush, im an enthusiast myself and i can't believe that i live in a time where i can pop on some goggles and just fly, like a bird, more like a really badass bird who does rolls, tricks and i think you get the point... i think you'd enjoy it xdd
whats the total cost for a beginner set up?
Blueeyedmerle varies, but a nice indoor/outdoor quad is the US/UK65 (brushless tiny whoop class), half a dozen batteries (quad comes with charger), then a FlySky i6 and a pair of $100 budget goggles is like $250
If you want a speed freak (100+ mph and takes a beating hitting trees and fences at 80 mph like it’s nothing, and you will smash into things...), then the Diatone GT R349 is a fantastic quad with high end components and the best carbon fiber job I’ve ever seen.
I actually preferred them over my friends Fatshark goggles (mine are 480p and standard monitor aspect ratio of 16x9 like I’m used to, I haven’t games on 4:3 like the fatsharks in a while and it felt weird)
I’d also get a $8 soldering iron and $5 in solder so your prepped with good tools when you need them, the Diatone is actually really nicely thought out and easy to solder. I haven’t broke anything on it yet though, and with my flying and crash rate pushing it to 1 crash per minute, then that’s a miracle it lasts even a day (0 cracks, no smashed lenses, just bent up props. Trust me, those tree and fence incidents at full throttle were not made up, I’ve never seen a battery fly so far away...)
Get extra props and have fun!
(Batteries used on R 349 is XF Power 4s 850mAh 70c with XT30 connector, I think it was $40 for 4 batteries), you may be slightly over 250g weight, go with 750mAh if your worried about it.
@@jakegarrett8109 Hey man thanks for the info. I'll check it out. I appreciate the depth of the post lol. Have a great day!!
As an avid RC enthusiast, I'm glad you did this all the right way, did your research, and didn't slaughter my hobby.
Also, if you think a slash is expensive, you're in for a deep, deep rabbit hole.
Reminds me of my drone days. Like the idea with the wheel and pedals.
*RE-VOLT* (VR) on ultramax graphics settings.
Genuinely surprised someone mentioned this game :D
Those were great times play in LAN mode. Here you go for a throw back. czcams.com/video/Voj2M9lhGBA/video.html
SP4C3
Unreal supports webcam, why not use the DX controls, make some custom API!
Damn noobs!
@@lucasrem WTF are you talking about? If you mean unreal engine, then Who the fuck asked you? Unreal engine is shit, "mining in the background" like performance. Even some games decreased graphics setting to mario levels, the engine still burning your GPU with 60fps limit.
