I love both Whitney and Mariah and I don't compare them at all cause they're equal when it comes to talent. You're free to have your opinion, but to say she's "deep" and better at that than Mariah is just opinionated. I also feel when Mariah sings. They both make me feel but in a different way but you're free to have your opinion I just don't really really when certain people lift someone than bring someone else's down. That's all.

One thing I love about Whitney personally is however huge her career got, she always paid her dues and made a point of praising those great influences that shaped her, one of which was of course Aretha. Aretha also acknowleged Whitney's immense talent. So often the industry pits stars against each other but they had nothing but respect for each other (likewise Dionne) and it was sweet. Even Whitney and Mariah became friends in the end despite the media contriving a rivalry between them. Behind the diva facade she was a nice lady with a kind heart I miss her a lot!

Typical that people would create drama where drama does not exist. Aretha and Whitney are two phenomenal vocalist with an array of musical talent. They are absolutely icons of their respective Eras. Whitney's mother Cissy Houston is an outstanding vocalist and has been a backup vocalist to Aretha for almost her entire career. Cissy and Aretha are very close, so why create drama where drama does not exist. I have heard aretha and whitney say nothing but positive things about one another, so again why the negativity. Nothing new here. Every Great has a quality of diva including Patti, Céline, Diana so Please stop Perpetuating this discord narrative between aretha and Whitney and allow The world to see these two woman as the great musical pillars that they were!

It is nasty and in many cases is a mere reflection of there negative perception on how they view life around them. Unhealthy egos are present everywhere. There is nothing wrong with being competitive. However, if you have ti feel like it is necessary to run a race at every turn and you do it at in a way in which you are side stepping and stomping on your opponent, you might want to look in the mirror. The unhealthy ego is what is killing us as a people. Appreciate one first rather than throwing your #1 in everyone else's face.

This is what Black people do to each other. They compare each other to create mess, and foolishness. We as a people really need to wake up and start to love each other again. Aretha earned her crown as Queen of soul, being a gospel singer, and an R & B singer, and could sing anything, and a woman who has won more escalates than any female singer, and most males. People always try to put down those who came first, and in many times was the greatest. I love Whitney Houston, and she also adored and loved Aretha, but no one, not no one, can take away the fact that Aretha had more success, and was a woman who had dignity, and respect for herself, and others. She was also a woman who believed in herself, and the black community, and never forgot who she was, or where she came from.

Oto kage.. Whitney Houston is called the VOICE. Remember sir she is the greatest voice of all.. Sorry but being called the VOICE she earned that title all the people in music industry called her that so it does matter to me and her fans and her peers. That's a title that only she have so I'm sure it meant alot to her as well.

Whitney ALWAYS had incredibly nice things to say about Aretha, she really was one of her idols. However, I don't think Aretha was always so respectful of Whitney. According to Narada Michael Walden who produced Whitney and Arethas duet, he said Aretha came into the studio with an attitude towards a young Whitney, and was really quite mean to her. I can only put it down to jealously as at that time in the late 80s, Whitney was the IT GIRL! And was far more popular than Aretha.

THY KINGDOM COME THY WILL BE DONE Yes, I agree. Even in death, she did not bother to attend Whitney's funeral stating she was 'ill', yet she performed a show that very same night. It was truly disrespectful!

Westin Taylor Yes, I think she was also jealous of Whitney's model looks.. to be honest I think she was jealous of many people who looked better/thinner than she did. She actually comes over as quite a bitter woman.

JDhappy81 I read a biography written by the co-author of Aretha's 1999 memoir and one of Aretha's sisters talked about how mean Ree was to Natalie Cole when she debuted in the 70's. Like Whitney Natalie always spoke highly of Aretha and referenced her as one of her biggest musical influences, but Aretha was so pissed about the press dubbing Natalie the "new Aretha" that she flat out ignored her at an awards show. Aretha is talented and very accomplished but she's so insecure. It's sad.

I think the interviewer said to Whitney that she was Aretha's equal. Now, wait a minute no one is equal to the Queen although Whitney Houston is one of my favorites, too. She is outstanding and can belt out those lyrics but being equal is not what she is to Aretha. The Queen is in her own zone. I heard one person says that she creates the zone.

what ya'll saying are just hearsay, the only thing aretha really said about whitney is that, they aren't close friends, but she is a close friend of her mother cissy which is very understandable because of the age gap. And we all know ree doesn't like making new friends. Aretha may not revered Whitney when nippy was still alive, but she has always been respectful. Fans just have this fantasy that great singers flock together. They have a life.

The voice, the beauty, (modeling) the presence, the acting, the class and elegance! Aretha is a very good singer but she does not compare to whitney.

Aretha is one the greatest vocalist ever, you have it twisted Whitney was a very good singer but could never compare to Aretha, which is the reason she always struggled to get through an Aretha song, she didn't have the equipment to match up to the Queen of Soul. The claims that Aretha was jealous of Whitney are merely hearsay and completely unfounded. There's zero evidence. In fact, there's only evidence that points to the opposite-- that she admired Whitney, and especially since she was close friends with her mother, Cissy.
