I have noticed lately that “Mist Filters” are becoming very popular with filmmakers to help diffuse and soften the look of video shot on the iPhone.
These filters have been around for decades and unlike and ND or CP filter that alters the amount of light and or reflections being received by the cameras sensor. A mist filters effect is a noticeably baked in look that you either like or don’t like…
And its very hard if not impossible to get rid of it in post-production. Therefore, anytime I want to diffuse my video I have a very simple technique that gives you the same look and vibe of a Mist filter but is applied at the edit stage of things giving you ultimate control over your footage.
Let me share it with you!
    Cheers Stu
    🤙
    Enjoy!

Hey Folks, I hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend and if you are in the UK the really nice weather we are experiencing at the moment. If you are a new subscriber to the channel “Welcome” glad to see you here.
Yesterday, was a big day for the channel, because I took delivery of a (2021) 12.9” iPad Pro with a beefy 2TB SSD. So no more free disk space anxiety for me… 🤙 I have used the new 5 mic’s that are on board the iPad. Let me know what you think of the audio. I kinda like it, but let me know either way. Enjoy the video tutorial.

Hey woow very nice tutorial, is it possible to make another tutorial to make this effect more noticable like in these Black Pro Mist filters 1/4 or even a 1/2 that would be sick if something like this would be possible in lumafusion it would help me alot in post and maybe others too

Another great tutorial, it’s a bit hard to see the difference, but it’s a clean walk through and I can experiment with my own footage to see. Thanks!

Thanks. It’s a subtle one, but it does take the edge off sharpness of digital video. 🤙

Its a really neat solution that I have brought over from my days of using Photoshop and it works very well with 4K iPhone footage. You will see me applying this technique in future videos. 🤙

This is great and very useful! Really like how easy to follow your delivery is. I have a tutorial in the works that is somewhat similar to this but with a completely different execution. (I keep postponing it though). I can’t wait to compare notes!

Thank you for lovely comment 🤗. Until Tuesday morning I was running a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5” with 64gb of SSD and only roughly 12gb spare at any one time. So an upgrade was long over due but I have to admit this iPad is something else. It only means you guys get even more video tutorials from it. So its a win win 🏅 🤙

Cool beans…with all the new stuff coming in LF I am going to need tutorials, I’m trying to get my head around all the sound stuff they have introduced… and have had some success with the stabilisation feature, but it is a work in progreSs for sure.

Actually I have had more success beta testing the audio filters since the changed the UI in a lot of them than I ever had before.
Stabilisation is something I’m very familiar with and I will be doing video tutorials that not only show you how to stabilise video but also comparing hand holding techniques compared to using gimbals because a lot of people actually don’t shoot gimbal footage correctly and cause themselves more hassle rather than smoother footage.
3 more weeks to launch (Approx) and I will be making my new LumaFusion v3 videos public and you guys can enjoy the learning! 🤙
