      hi dude can you put an approx price if you sell this amount to a jeweler how much he would pay you ? i know u don't do it for the money but i'm still curious like if you find a crazy ass peridot big like your hand and clean does it worth anything or not really cause it's common .

      I suggest taking the Forest Service Road that is on the west side of the Fraser River north of Lillooet BC. it's a good road in a minivan to the end of the road, a beautiful drive. There is a Rift that spewed out lots of lava all over the top of that mountainous area. I have driven to the end of that road. Nice video.

    Thanks for taking me along on your adventure and introducing me to peridot. I will have to educate myself on peridot and basalt. I used to have a placer claim in Atlin that had similar rock. However, I was so focused on gold that I never looked for crystals. I might be going back this summer for a short trip. Now subscribed to your channel.

      @GeologyofGemsMinerals  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks! As far as I know, the northernmost peridot occurrence in BC is near Prince George. Even in the producing areas, most basalts are barren. Takes hard work and good luck. I'll post a follow-up video with the polished gemstones eventually. I got very lucky!!!

      Keep an eye out for gemmy garnet in the sluice. I've been impressed by some BC placer garnets. I had some tiny ones cut, bright pink to 0.05 carats. Good stones in the 1-2 ct range are known.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner Před 6 lety

      Many years ago, I had a couple of claims in the Cariboo and there was sometimes garnet and lots of pyrite. None in Atlin where I was.

      I will answer from what I have learned. Books, videos and courses are good. Best bet, however, is join a local rock and mineral club. You will be able to sign up for field trips and the people you meet with be exceptionally helpful. I am sure GoG&M will also answer.

What makes me hope for something is that sometimes I find small pockets of quartz and amethyst just on nearby gravel roads. ) Also, if I'm not mistaken, one of the world biggest peridots specimens were found in Zhytomir region.Those mines are only about 4 hours far from me. Sorry for flood.

      Hi CJ, CZcams hadn't notified me of your reply. Check out my new video on basic gear for rockhounding, it might give you some ideas. As far as where to go, that is up to you. You are already finding amethyst/quartz - look around the gravel roads on rock exposures. Can you find the same rock type nearby? You should also definitely look for those peridot. The largest in the world come from Myanmar, Egypt and Pakistan.
