  • Once one of the richest men under 30 in the UK, Dylan Wilk gave up a life of luxury and moved to the Philippines to volunteer for the non-profit Gawad Kalinga. In his awe-inspiring TEDx talk, he reveals why - to live and spread the Filipino dream. Find out how he discovered this dream, and what makes him continue living it out through his Social Enterprise, Human Heart Nature Inc.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

His words brought tears to my eyes. I'm really sad and embarrassed as a native filipino, unable to do and live the Filipino dream. I was educated by my country but left to teach in the US instead of teaching in the Philippines. Now it's so hard for me to go back home because the American dream has transformed me into another person, living life like matter that I've become. All I do now is help back but I know there's much better help than being away. But I am thankful for Dylan's words, compassion., and kindness to the Philippines and the Filipinos. I know my encounter of him and his show on youtube is not accidental.

tom pagu Cause all we think about is how can we make our lives better financially and also our (for me) the lives of my future family. But you see, most of the people actually are missing the bigger picture. It ain't about money you know, it is about doing what you wanna do, and finding the actual life you wanna live.

Still pinoy p din nmn u. Smpre u just make ur life a better one that why's.

You are helping the Philippines by paying your taxes. I swear Filipinos working abroad pay much much higher taxes than the average worker in the Ph. If you want to help Filipinos, give them online jobs. That's the greatest opportunity you can give them.

He nailed this on the head...spot on! We Filipinos need to learn to love each other & our country more; we should STOP our negativity & our pessimism. S.Korea, Japan & UK rose &came out of their post war recession by tightening their belts, looking, lifting & helping after each in their times of darkness...this is an expectation not just from the rich, but for also the poor, because even if you don't have money, you are still capable of contributing towards the development of each other & the country.

He deserves to be called a Filipino compared to most of us. It's a shame in ourselves that someone like him has more patriotism running in his veins than most of us did. Ironic isn't it?. Hats off to you sir!

Totally ironic... it should be us who love our own, and yet the one to teach us this one important lesson is someone who is not our own and yet has become one on his own volition.

Sometimes it takes a non-native to clearly see what is really important to the Filipino. Pinoys must realize the potential they have and the courage to expand on their talents. Unfortunately corruption is pervasive in the country which hampers that growth. It has to be stamped out and eradicated and empower the Pinoy. I salute you Dylan! Mabuhay!

Loving the family is number one in our Filipino culture. Although we are not perfect like everyone else worldwide, rich or poor Filipinos love the family & help each other in any way we can. And bcoz it´s normal for us within us, we do so with other people in some countries where a filipinos might be working. We just love people.

Produce and buy Philippines is what I'm promoting to all that I meet. That way, we will become a rich and progressive country because all the money that are pouring in will circulate in our economy. We don't need to buy products made outside where we throw the hard earned foreign money that are remitted by Filipinos abroad. Produce and buy Philippines. We can do it.

The problem is, those who have power are corrupt, greedy and selfish that sometimes we don't trust each other. Those stubborn people do not even care of the people who suffer and only think of themselves and 'their' problem. People really need to stop thinking of themselves but think about their country and maybe the whole world..
