Peta Credlin sets the record straight on ABC documentary ‘Nemesis’

- Sky News host Peta Credlin has responded to the ABC’s Nemesis documentary from Monday and opened up after 10 years since the collapse of the Abbott prime ministership.
Titled ‘The Abbott Years’ the documentary series explores Mr Abbott’s ‘thumping victory’ in 2013 before being removed as prime minister in less than two years later.
“Like Abbott, I declined to appear on the program because I was certain of a selective and distorted version of my response to the usual crap that I was too tough; too tough on entitlements, they said.
“I served as a political staffer for 16 years because I believe in the Liberal Party’s values - perfect? No one is, but I was loyal, absolutely loyal and always working for the government, not trying to undermine it.
“That’s why it hurt so much to see the party used by carpet baggers and careerists who should never have been given the honour of Liberal Party pre-selection in the first place.”
I allways admired Tony Abbot for his honesty and integrity. He is in my estimate a good man.
I loved that he didn't do stuff for the media. He'd go off fire fighting without telling the media he was going. He'd wear his budgie smugglers on the each like other blokes his age out for a morning swim, and not give a toss what the papers said.
And boy did the media hate that he didn't dance for them.

As just an ordinary citizen whose been fortunate enough to meet and converse with multiple Prime Ministers (either before, or after their tenure) I concur with Peta's assessments. John Howard and Tony Abbott were (are) genuine human beings. Turnbull and Morrison literally made my skin crawl (as did Rudd). I feel for you Peta and I admire your stoic tenacity. Please keep up the good work. Our nation needs media that's unsullied by the elitist doctrine we see enthusiastically propagated by the "more equal than others" snouts within the trough.

I had abbott as a minister when doing ministerial support - he wasnt that bright. all he knew was blunt force trauma. I spent over 30 years in that system. I look forward to the day when there is a royal commission and we get protection to talk about who did what and how bloody shonky both sides are. I had one Lib Minister who was a functioning alcoholic and they did nothing about it and contionued to let him dribble nonsense in front of the cameras. A lost decade thanks to the overweening unjustified ambition of Malcolm Turnbull. The parliamentary Liberals of the time were a disgrace in that they did not quash this behaviour within the party room.

@@RevoRob007 I was involved in the Liberal party as a strategician and it was a difficult time. For what its worth, I think Tony generally is a good man that meant well, whom ScoMo and Turnbull's blind ambition undermined in name of self interest.
But to be fair, he's the only prime minister in the whole 30 years that the ABC has done this documentary series to not have the guts to come and do an interview (because lets be fair, on some level it does take some guts to come and expose yourself to potentially embarrassing media/interviews).
It's not exactly gotcha journalism either, just a chronicling of the realities of what its like to be involved in politics, the good and the bad.

But surely by not going on the programme they weren't then able to give their version of events and that is their decision. But don't complain when the programme is not to your liking if you deliberately chose not to be involved.

I met Tony Abbot in 2006. He was shown around Argyle Diamonds and I was cutting a pink diamond. He walked up, shook hands and asked me what I was doing and how ? We got talking, for maybe 30 minutes. He asked me really good questions, and listened to me. Nothing in it for him politically, but I was so impressed with the man listening to my answers to the point he asked another question. I so much respected he wasn’t just shaking hands, but engaging and learning from me.. really solid man

He asked me what exactly I was doing , I told him I was cutting a very expensive Argyle Pink diamond, maybe $1million, and then we got into the how do you focus on such a task, I reply, and we got talking about Pink diamonds, and what makes them special ? There were very few of us at the time, maybe 6 or 7. He was fascinated that we were so few and so specialised , and I only continued cutting once he and his entourage left.

Howard was actually much more of a fiscal liberal than Abbott. The blowback of the 2014/2015 Abbott/Hockey budget also caused the Liberal's polling numbers to fall through the floor, which would have thrown a spanner in the works of any chances of reelection of Abbott and the Liberal parliament of the day, let alone 3 reelections like Howard, so I don't think the fantasy would have ever come to be.

I never liked Turdbull, nor Morrison, l gave Morrison 20 Brownie points, told him he had better grow, enhance them. What did he do, signed us up to Paris, he lost more points than he gained, he had 3 or 5 points left when he signed us up to Net Zero, that was the state of his points, Zero, glad he is gone, Dutton, in that coup was my choice, but Morrison got it. I felt that once Abbott hit his straps as PM, he would be a great PM, thats why the left sougjt to get rid of him. Come back Tony.

All major political parties tithe their MPs, at 10% last I heard. That is, 10% is deducted from their pay before they get it and goes to their party. I think the Greens might be a $15% tithe. Plus other deductions (for all).

I didn't mind Abbott and was in favour of most of the policies he put forward. Clearly, his interest was for the betterment of all Australians. I would have liked to have seen all his policies put into action, but sadly that didn't happen.

Yes, the standard of living that Hawke and Keating set up for Howard and Costello to then squander by not setting Australia for the future. Built no infrastructure, set house prices alight and now made buying a house a pipe dream for many, kept wages low, and created a divided Australia. Unfortunately so many politicians today run on ego and personal glory instead of actually doing what the public votes them in to do, serve the Australian and have the Australian Public’s best interests at heart. PM Abbott's final big mistake was his awarding a knighthood to Prince Phillip on Australia Day, it was just too much.
Abbot was a looney. It's that simple. He should never been out on his own. Educated? Yes, but it didn't show, Erratic, unstable, embarrassing. Never a statesman's arse.
I didn't think so, every other country in the Commonwealth had done so we were the only ones that had't done so, Prince Philip had done so much here to help our youth, so we shouldn't snub him when others had given him the title, l applaud Abbott for bestowing the title on the Prince.
Scott Morrison: "I can't recall..." That's the standard response from someone who doesn't want to outright lie. We saw exactly that from Eric Schwerin when he testified at the Joe Biden impeachment inquiry two days ago.
I can't recall is so stock standard reply of Dan Andrews, the longest lockdown Premier, fame and the most prolific liar there was/is.

I actually really admire PETA as a person, I don’t always agree with her opinions, but her loyal and principle of integrity is much stronger than lots of men in the parliament, particularly Little Malcolm, salute to her.
The first I had heard of you Peta I was intrigued, you foes had painted a picture of a formidable woman. During you tenure had found you to be extremely loyal to Mr Abbot and still are to this day. But one of the biggest observations was you honesty and integrity. You have shown others by your now public life you will not be beaten by the low lives of this world. It is such a pleasure listening to you and your forthright approach to you current public life.

Good attempt at reimagining history Peta. The trouble with your little story is that we all saw the Abbott debacle with our own eyes and we saw a man who just wasn’t up to leadership. Too many bungles, too many broken promises, too much ideology and not enough vision for where Australia could go. And let’s be fair Peta, you did your best to micromanage the PM but in the end your own over-the-top control of his responsibilities and lack of respect for the party team hastened his downfall and therefore your own.
