The CAT 518 is a log skidder. It looks like someone replaced the rear housing with one from a 518.

There is also a caterpillar 518 trash compactor machine
They are similar machines so it is entirely possible they switched the backs and fronts of two machines
I was telling DP he needed one of these for building pond dams, spread and pack at the same time
They always say “don’t throw away your old shoes before you get new ones”, but if you want new ones you can “create” a need of course😀
Thank good uncle Scott wasn’t close to the lightning strike. He could have lost the family jewels with all those bolts in his pockets. 🤣🤣

Caterpillar made a 518 log skidder
Tell Kevin after he checks the tire pressure that the blinker fluid needs to be topped off….just to be sure.
Take a pair of gas pliers on that stuck extension and squeeze the ball and see if it was improperly seated in there when they put it together as the last step of the assembly. I've had that happen on Craftsman and snap on and all kinds of other tools sometimes the ball just gets stuck.
That sure is a heavy duty lawn aerator! Nothing better than big iron content!

Where I work at we had a forklift that was literally falling apart. They refused to get it fixed or serviced. Same with the concrete in the back where the pallets and other stuff is stored. Holes big enough to get the forklift stuck. They always said it was corporates fault but the store Mgr is suppose to ok projects with the regional.

There is a Cat 518, it’s a Wheel Log Skidder, with a 4 cylinder engine of around 120hp - smaller brother of the 528 which has the 3306 6 cylinder.

On the Torque test channel, the Hercules impact and drills have been giving Millwalkie a real run, and even coming out on top.
Ya check the air pressure in those invisible tires and check the suspension for play😂.
I've run an 836 many times, they are actually pretty fun to run. We also used them around the landfill to pull out everything that was stuck.

I've bought or inherited many if not all brands of tools.... I bought for a reason a name brand tool box in my small shop that people seen driving in. That snap on box was around ten grand if memory serves me at all anymore. In the box was a mixture of tools as I got away from paying prices unforgivably high. Like a swivel head ratchet with fine teeth, and it was a three eights drive. over a hundred dollars and the one I bought from Mac was only forty five and a way way better ratchet. Some tools though, regardless the price, I bought the best I could find and price not a factor... just had to be the very best, if I crawl into a hellhole to fix something and the tools I take with me are a "NobrainO" as our spanish neighbors who are rolling in by the numbers higher than a politician's criminal history list.... just not a good thing. I figure a hammer is a hammer and if it works and fits my hand well, nether words is not hard to use then I can through it in a bucket of diesel and soak up the handle wood in the head and not get too rusty that way. I don't dunk it in so far that it gets on the rest of the handle and makes it a weapon just waiting to happen. Lucky getting that dang glow plug out as easy as it did as they have a habit of swelling up when they died. Great video as always Clint..... I just can't quit at a too long already comment. I watch hamilton farm once in a while as Hank is so cheap that it affects my OCD on dumb cheap people. Going to a job site with just a few tools he thinks he needs, and the ones that he takes are some of the very cheapest ones at harbor freight also. I know he asks you questions all the time but if ya ask a question from someone who does know stuff and you keep second guessing them... Err! and then when things don't work he will call again and ask again if there is a way to fix that screw up as well. I just don't have time for that. I would rather help some kid that needs help identifying say a sparkplug and the tool to remove it... the whole gambit ... rather than the guy who always passes the blame on someone else and then wonders why he doesn't have a friend that he can double count on. So if there is a cheaper tool than even harbor freights cheapest quality tool, he has it

That compactor is the type they use at landfills to compact the trash
That would be the 816 main difference is the wheels
I ran several diffrent 815's over my career as a heavy equipment operator. They are good machines . I worked on building house pads and building pads for wharehouse's .@@russellsmith3825
Clint and crew - as always enjoyed your video. Some kind of surge protection on your electrical and if you have a fire alarm panel would be a great help. Also, did you ever consider a corrugated cardboard baler to handle all the parts boxes you get ??? May be another source of income, a fiber broker could probably help to determine if you have enough volume. You have a great business - and good ethics and best of all - Fun

Soak your hammers in green coolant (PEG). The handles will swell up, but not dry and shrink back down.

That was enjoyable. LOL i worked a few places that there was a lot of camaraderie. I worked there 8 years and it seemed less than 6 months. You didn't really mind all the overtime. Work is easy and not nearly as long when it is fun. Great work.

The 815 has been round for a good while now , 35 yrs that I know of , top machine for compacting ,,
The last deal was great should help sell that great machine.
That 8” 1/4” extension just went through the chrome bath twice. So it’s got extra corrosion protection now. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Clint you want to put a surge protector on you all you panel's and have a secondary one for computers, most definitely the computer for your plasma table. You got lucky because it could have damaged every electric item if you don't have one installed
I live in Marion Ohio. My next door neighbor has some old cat dozens for putting in pipeline. He does sale engine from some of his equipment.

Well, they used some of these in landfills. But they also had a unit which had different wheels that were specifically designed for landfills. We would get both at the Cat dealerships. Hated the ones from the landfills.
File extension - some sort of computer lingo? I've had a set of Snap- on and Par-X socket etc. Never a problem except for losing them.

That is the most important machine on a grading crew. It builds all the pads and fills. Brakes are always out on them but they should be riding level most of the time. I shift to reverse then downshift to stop them
