- Turkish meatballs with potato slices cooked in the oven with tomato sauce. Very easy and healthy recipe. This traditional Turkish recipe is very popular in Turkey, mostly served with Turkish Rice Pilaf. You can add different vegetables like eggplant too.
Ingredients for the Meatball And Potato:
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
1/2 bunch parsley
2 slices of bread
500gr. ground beef (Or better if half is ground lamb)
1/2 tsp each cayennepeper and cumin
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
3 tbsp water
2 tbsp olive oil
For the tomato sauce:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 heaped tbsp tomato paste
2 cups or more hot water
round 30cm oven pan (if you don't have just use whatever you have but try to find the similar size that it can fit nicely)

Hello from Bradford, Ontario, Canada. I married a wonderful Turkish man. I love to cook Turkish meals because I enjoy watching him eat. Thank you for a delicious dish. He loved him and so did my family. ❤
Merhaba, I am Turkish-American. I have been cooking whatever I learned from my Turkish mother and mother- in-law but I never got specific amounts of the ingredients so I was never 100% satisfied with how it would come out. I made your eggplant kebab 2 nights ago in the round pan and it was delicious and looked beautiful.
I will try the kefte and potatoes this weekend.
You film Everything so professionally and your English is great. I am so happy I found you!!! 🧿
Hello from Finland.
The story tells, that the swedish worrior king Carolus Rex XII was exiled to the Ottoman Empire after the Surrender at Perevolochna 1709. When he returned, he had with him the recipe of the turkis meatballs. Now a days it is said to be the national delicacy of swedes: Simply Mashed potatoes and meatballs and sauce.
This dish is also popular in my home country Finland part of the swedish empire that time. Meatbols survived the many changes in Finlands history untill to day. Meatballs arr popular also in Finland. Most of the ingredients in your mix are familiar to me, but not cumin. We also use egg in the meatball batter.
The new thing for me in your wonderfull presentation is, that one can cook them in the owen as raw together with the other fresh ingredients as one serving. We usually fry them first on a pan and serve them like that with sauce, pasta, potatoes or even rice. There is also a custom to let them soften in a cream bath with salt and pepper in a pan in the owen. That makes them even more delicious.
I thank you for this recipe wich is a new way of cooking meatballs, and it will be this evenings dish.
Hello Matti, that is a nice story I didn’t know that. Thank you for sharing with us. I think every recipe must have its own history traveling around the world. Sometimes this makes sweet fight between the nations arguing that they own the recipe. And sometimes makes us wonder how it travels with changes if it’s own and becomes a national delicacy of a nation 😊
I've known this story :) But an advice: without cumin meatball will lose half of its taste. Find cumin any way you can😁
@@precursors Hi! This like karma. The farm my fathers in 9 generation farmed was cumin producer for the swedish army.
My birth country Finland was for 700 hundred years a part of Sweden. Our family name Cumenius was derivered from the word cumin what I know! My father changed the name during the civil war to Kallio menaning Berg or Rock. I say - Wau!
Next time cumin is part of my meatbals.
I've often wondered what goes into the sauce for your meatballs, I can't believe it's so simple. Thank you I will try it
For men like me who can’t cook very well, you’re an angel. Mine will be ready in 20 minutes. 😋
Happy to hear that, hope
You enjoyed
@@TFT It was lovely; we enjoyed it! However, I didn't have a casserole dish, only a semi-deep baking tray and I cut the potatoes too thick. So, the tops of the potatoes were a bit undercooked. We live and learn. :)
Greetings from USA. I messed it up by leaving my meat in the grinder too long and turning it into a paste but it was still delicious! Next time I will grind everything except the meat and add that in by hand. Also, my round pan is smaller than yours so I will use 1 cup of hot water in the sauce and not 2. I wish I had taken pictures, you would have gotten a laugh out of how the meat looked. Thank you, I will make this often!
