    The actual machete probably wouldn’t have been this well made considering the lack of resources in the post apocalypse but none the less it looks very beautiful

    its a nice prop...but thats all it is. without a tgrue full tang after a few chops on anything but simple brush and your blade will snap or even worse go flying. I would reccomend trying it again with a true full tang and some heat treating

    • @FireHeartProjects
      @FireHeartProjects  Před 8 lety +1

      +lastgunslinger3759 I agree it could have been made stronger and more usable but i chose visual accuracy over usability, maybe in the future ill make some real hardened knives or other blades. Thanks for watching!

    • @nathanwest2304
      @nathanwest2304 Před 8 lety +2

      I wouldn't recommend a lawnmower blade in the first place, these things are fairly mild steel and can't really hold an edge
      about the full tang issue, you could just have cuz out a bit of the lawnmower blade wich would also make a shorter blade that can be handled properly

    • @TheFreakyJhonny
      @TheFreakyJhonny Před 7 lety

      that depends on how well he weldet it
      if you do it carefully and normalize the area you can get a pretty strong connection
      it helps if you grind both pieces at 45° to form an edge where you want to weld them together
      if you fill the area with the welder carefully it should be pretty strong

    • @patriciaraney3749
      @patriciaraney3749 Před 6 lety

      Looks like that steel was a little cold a few times when you were beating on it I'm sure it created stress fractures

  • @joshwhittaker2398
    @joshwhittaker2398 Před 4 lety

    I recommend hammering it when it's at forging temperatures like cherry red orange and yellow cause if u hit it when it's not those colors it can crack

    • @FireHeartProjects

    Thank you for posting this video, it was interesting to watch and observe how this could be done. It was quick and pretty much self explaining, and your reason for not hardening the steel was on point. You did a great job, don't let the saying trolls disillusion you. Keep on puting out good videos.

      @FireHeartProjects  Před 8 lety

      +CellanKnight That means a lot, its the reason i do the work in the first place, i looked up the sword and it reminds me a lot of the buster sword, watch some build videos of that one to get a good idea for size, if youre like me and want to make it reeeeeeeeallyyy big, weight will be your biggest challenge. Goodluck

    It seems kinda pointless to go through the trouble of flattening the blade out, instead of cutting the curled-up sections away like a lot of people do, and then not make much use of the original edges that you went through so much trouble to save. Bit hard to tell 100% but it looks like the edge on the end of the blade ended up on the false edge instead of actually being used as part of the cutting edge?

    • @FireHeartProjects
      @FireHeartProjects  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the detailed look into my build! If i remember correctly youre right on your observations but the intention was to build a working prop that was identical to the in game model. This video is 6 years old now and my skills have improved drastically, i think I will do another gaming weapon build sometime soon.

    • @chaosvolt
      @chaosvolt Před 2 lety

      @@FireHeartProjects True, definitely interesting regardless. Plus given most machete edges are a simple chisel grind, it wouldn't be as good as a machete most likely. Not to mention still needing to grind out more length for the edge if one were to try and keep it.
