I Stopped drinking Milo made in the Philippines, more than a decade ago. I definitely stopped tasting any hint of chocolate in their Milo formula and I really hated it. This made me slowly adapt to drinking coffee instead. I hope it's just a local formula thing that it tasted like that, and actually has a taste of chocolate in the other countries.

This is my tip; I think Malaysian hostel student knew the “recipe"
We bought a long sachet milo, let it cool down using cold water, then tear a bit on the top so air could out and the sachet will become thin, next get a towel or handkerchief (make sure it's not the “hairy" one to prevent burn) put in on top of the sachet, get a clothe iron and move it slowly evenly, its may took a long time...the result is the powder will become harder like a chocolate bar and enjoy it in front of tv😅
    I'm suck at explaining

I, as an australian, was shocked in the differences of how we make our milo drinks, over here it’s most popular with cold milk and the powder floating on the top, it’s refreshing and slightly crunchy, or, for a hot milo, boiling water or heated up milk, then you add the powder and then add more milk depending on the temperature you prefer, I’m in team cold milo so I’ve never actually made a warm milo.
Edit: For that one person who said most of the East Asian population is lactose intolerant, I believe you, but so am I.

Here in SEA, liquid milk is a much less common ingredient than it is in Western countries. Drinks like Milo often come pre-mixed with powdered milk and only require water to be added as shown here. It's much more convenient imo.

Interesting to see the Milo products available in Singapore, many of them don't exist here in Australia. Speaking of that the "Australian Recipe" Milo powder you show in the video looks different to what we get here, the Aussie Milo in the can has the same larger granule size as the Asian version here.
About 20 years ago we also had a Milo bar that looked like the Milo nuggets inside but now we have ones that are similar to the ones you showed, we don't have the Milo cereal bowls in the video but we do have the same cereal in a box.
Overall very cool to see how Milo is different elsewhere in the world.

    • @Berndhardiner
      @Berndhardiner Před 2 lety +2

@@saged2485 Yeah, of yourse we have these things here. I think the most famous is called KABA. It's mostly the same as Milo I think, just cocoa-powder with a shitload of sugar in it, which you pour into milk or some plant-based drink. KABA has also some variations without cocoa but with strawberry or vanilla flavour. KABA has also become some kind of synonym for chocolatemilk. So it doesn't really matter, which brand you got at home, if someone wants to drink a KABA, you know what it is. :D Another well known brand is NESQUICK, which is also Nestlé like Milo and its pretty much the same thing. Suchard Express must be the third "bigger" brand of cocoa powder. And of course there are many many cheaper off-brands from discounter markets (like LIDL or ALDI) which have their own brands but its pretty much always the same thing. These off brands often have less sugar in it, which makes them more "healthier" if you know what I mean :D On the other side, there are a couple of premium brands, which advertise with real swiss chocolate or variations with dark or white chocolate but they are very expensive in comparison.

There are many reasons to dislike Nestle, but the main one for most people is that they cause infant deaths by aggresively promoting their milk formula over breastmilk in a lot of developing countries. Mums use formula instead of milk, then the babies starve when they can't afford more formula and mum is no longer producing.
Also the mums make the formula with dirty water or thinner than recommended to make it last, both of which lead to malnourishment and death.

Milo was developed in Australia by Thomas Mayne, who was working for Nestlé. It debuted at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 1934.
Although it contains multiple B-group vitamins- B2, B3, B6, and B12- as well as Vitamin C, elemental iron and calcium and malted barley, Milo® is 43.6% sugars straight from the tin- or 19.8 grams of sugar in a 200mL serving made as per the instructions on the can using skim milk.
    The Malaysian distributor says this:
    Is MILO® a nutritious drink?
Yes, MILO® is a nutritious beverage made from malt barley, milk and cocoa. MILO® contains carbohydrates, protein, fat, 6 vitamins (Vitamin B2, B3, B6, B12, C & D) and 3 minerals (Calcium, Iron & Phosphorus). It meets all the criteria under Malaysia Ministry of Health’s regulation to be labelled as a nutritious beverage.
When consumed with a balanced meal, it can provide you the energy you need to take on your day.
