I was 13 when transatlantic sessions started and my dad and I used to watch it together. I remember we had this episode on tape, and I watched this song over and over. Scary to think ill have been watching this video for 30 years soon!. My dad died in 2010 sadly, but when I got married, we had this version of the song playing after the ceremony was finished. Everything about it is just happy, the rhythm and the bass give it such a lively pace and the way russ barenberg and jerry Douglas just bat the melody between each other so seamlessly is amazing. But most of all, it reminds me of those happy times with my dad and how it brought a little piece of him to my wedding even though he wasn't there to see it in person.

    Hello Danny and Victoria !!
Just thought I'd drop by, say hello & how great it is to see you looking well and that you have your own you tube channel. Fan - bloody-tastic!!
Sorry to be a tad late - I had no idea.
I'm a long time fan - through you with John (Martyn) originally, but then discovering all your various tentacles !!
Today's been unexpectedly remarkable..... I was reminiscing with some folks over on their "The Audiophiles" you tube channel about Nick (Drake) and whilst flitting between the rugby and wandering back down Nick's musical rabbit hole, I stumbled across the "Way To Blue" concert. I can't tell you of my absolute joy.... I can't even begin to describe the joy I felt seeing this for the first time. I've been a huge fan of Nick since about the time John's "The Apprentice" came out - so 1990 ish I guess - and I worked backwards from there.
What a tribute this was. And a real treat to see you on "Way To Blue" Danny, with all those artists I've now got to make enquiries about. I've got to admit I was a bit apprehensive, fearing a series of injustices and abominations to Nick's songs (I've heard a few) - but I needn't have worried, had I?
What a talented ensemble of artists, a truly empathetic orchestra and a thoroughly spell-bound audience. Oh how I wish I'd have known....actually I think I was in NZ at the time but I'd have been sorely tempted to make a 24,000 mile round-trip for the concert !!
You yourself were as solid and soulful as ever (throughout).. I found myself picturing John there in his wheelchair a couple of times too - and I had to do a proper double-take when Scott Matthews walked on the stage - freakishly reminiscent of to Nick to glance at.....
The other remarkable thing was that my ears really pricked up while I was listening to you playing with Robyn Hitchcock on "Parasite" - something stirred in my memory of David Sylvian's "Orpheus"..... then I thought "hang on a minute..."..... How is it, (when I would always have "Orpheus" in my top five greatest songs in HISTORY, whatever mood you happened to catch me in) and yet never twigged that it's you and Veronica !!! Fuck me it's so obviously you but I somehow never joined the dots....?!!!!
Anyway, it's been a great day of discovery one way or the other.
P.S - I did a search for the bass player on "The Apprentice" (the track) and it came up with "Dave 'Taif' Ball".... is that right? Because it sure as hell sounds like YOU......?? I'd love you to let me know.
Really good to say hello Danny and I'll be sure to be a regular visitor here and check out some/all of your videos. It's an honour to be your 724th Subscriber!!
Good to see you looking well, Sir - all the best......
    Cheers, CW.
