Bass Signal Path Explained | The Janek Gwizdala Podcast

  • In this episode I'm sharing some thoughts on bass signal path when it comes to building pedalboards.
We look at ideas for pedals routed in series as well as the current setup I have where I'm using parallel loops. I also go over a huge list of pre amps and compressors I'm considering for my "clean" signal.
Pedals are a never ending world of experimentation for me. I don't think there's a "right" way to do any of it, and I highly recommend you start with the questions "what am I hearing?" and "how do I make that sound".
The only right way to do it is to make things sound the way you hear them.

Janek, If there’s any comment I’ve ever written that I would want you to consider, it would be this one.
Get the Jad Freer Capo. I’ll say it again.
    Get the Jad Freer Capo.
It’s arguably one of the best preamps on the market. No clipping diodes, built like a tank. Amazingly musical and I feel like you would absolutely fall head over heels for it.
I have the BC1, Broughton Studio One, etc, etc. Hands down the Capo is the best sounding, most versatile pedal. Killer DI, and just a well thought out pedal. It’s a game changer.

Video starts with the praise of switching to less pedals but more possibilities. Near the end is talk of using the bigger board for more pedals which means more sound layers. Spoken like a true pedal nut. ......Your camera mount moves. Interesting and nice touch. I purchased an EP Booster while watching this video. Thanks.

Janek, RE the Vertex riser height, I have the same issue with the DC7 just touching the top of the Cali76 knobs under the riser. I'm going to put a 2mm or 3mm thick thin strip of aluminium under each riser side wall (drill holes for the screw locations) to sort it.

It's fun to try your hand at the "poor man's Fripp", that's how it feels anyway. And, getting down with the Meatbox and Gonkluator combo is just stupid

I imagine most people that follow your music are into the sound explorations themselves and would get a lot out of a small group presentation and some Q&A.
