This used to be the theme song and the music background while reading the headlines at the beginning of the main midday newscast Rádiožurnál ("Radio Journal") of public state-funded "Radio Slovakia" station between 1990 and 2006.

That's what I love about doing this channel - I'm learning loads of stuff about these tracks i never knew!
How wonderful that this track was used on the national newscast for so many years!

    • @gertie0
      @gertie0 Před 2 lety +3

It was long before Shazam and internet was in its infancy, so only the few knew the song´s title. For most of us it was simply "that Radio Journal´s instrumental". I would assume that people even thought that the radio station itself made it! I really liked it as a child, the song added power and drama to usually boring headlines.

@@gertie0 It's a fabulous track to bring drama to the headlines - I just love this story you have told about this track, which I am fairly sure, not many people outside Slovakia will know - thank you so much for sharing!

@@Jamiej80sdisco ... those was ridiculous years. We had a nationalist/mafia government at the time (highlight was the kidnapping of presidents' son by our secret service on behalf of the prime minister), and the news on the state media were heavily redacted. EU/US called us the "black hole of the europe" and we were on a good way to become the second belarus. This background track was literally the best part of the news block, the other stuff was pure BS. I remember listening to this every time as I was preparing to go to school in the morning.
It is kinda unbelievable, that given our political situation, they have chosen this "foreign" song as the headlines background on our main state radio station. What is even better was the outro song of the news (when they read the credits) - it was a song by hungarian prog-rock band, and in the 90s we had horrible relations with hungary. This one:
      czcams.com/video/3Jt5uaviOn8/video.html
But nobody knew about the origin of these songs. I myself thought, that those were specially made for our radio until recently...

Also known in Germany from a long-running TV-Music-show called "Die deutsche Schlagerparade" and as a talkover on the radio Chart Show "Hot 100" on radio ffn, lower Saxony at least from 1990 til 1996. Can also be found here on youtube, for example: czcams.com/video/10WLTCJIEKg/video.html (they mixed a special edit).
I Love it since then and still today.

How fabulous this track was used for TV and radio shows in Germany and Slovakia!
Here in the UK, Time Rider's (Fancy) 'Cocoon' became a hit after it was used as the theme for a late night TV programme hosted by Pete Waterman, which was live footage taken from discos and nightclubs around the country in the late 80s and early 90s.

Lol. Laser Show time. At the time people would actually stand & watch the lightshows at large venues with lasers & hydraulic lighting rigs. The Hippodrome was famous for its huge (I thought gaudy) hydraulic rig that descended from the gods.
I was resident at The Academy, Boscombe which won awards for its lighting rig, it also had the first argon water cooled laser in the country. The local authorities insisted on safety tests. They held up sheets of paper to see if it would scorch or burn. We couldn't help but chuckle as the men in ties stood out on the vast dancefloor at different points.
Anyhow, there were many tracks written I think with these shows in mind. This was a popular one. As was "Sultana" by Tarraco. Other popular tracks were "Eve Of War" Jeff Lynn (remixed in 1984), any movie theme from John Williams, "Theme From Shaft" remixed around 1984, "Mega Madness" from Gremlins soundtrack, many others.
It does kinda sound like an early 80's US TV theme now.

I remember that lightshow at the Hippodrome - it was quite amazing!
I can see how bounding synth tracks like this one would make such a great soundscape to one of those laser light shows!
