- This is a method used to calculate target lead based on time of flight of your bullet, and not simply by your estimated target speed.
TIME OF FLIGHT TARGET LEAD "MOVERS"
STEP 1:
Find time of flight known distances of .25, .50, and 1.0 seconds
200Y = .25s
400Y = .50s
700Y = 1.0s
STEP 2:
Range Target
And
Find associated time of flight
STEP 3:
"MIL" target speed
STEP 4:
Calculate Lead, Hold, FIRE
STEP 1:
Find time of flight known distances of .25, .50, and 1.0 seconds
200Y = .25s
400Y = .50s
700Y = 1.0s
STEP 2:
Range Target
And
Find associated time of flight
EXAMPLE:
400 Yard Target
1/2 Second Time of Flight
STEP 3:
"MIL" target speed
EXAMPLE:
Target is moving 3 Mil in 1 second
STEP 4:
Calculate Lead, Hold, FIRE
EXAMPLE:
3 mil per second = 1.5 Mil per .50s TOF
Lead by 1.5Mil
FIRE
2nd Example:
700 Yard Target
Target Moves 2 Mils in 2 Seconds
Time of Flight: 1 second
Target Lead/Hold: 1Mil
Also, a more realistic solution would be to measure the speed over several seconds and divide accordingly.
