    Love it! I'm still weird about telling people I'm an author so getting over that mental block to start developing a marketing plan has been a challenge but this made me think HECK YEAH I CAN DO ALL THAT!

    Another great video and learning tool. I have learned so much from you. I have my first book coming out in May (I pushed it back from April to keep the stress off, like you suggest)
    All your info has been so helpful. Thank you!

    Thanks for the info! I'm honestly surprised some authors would do a whole year long pre-order, but I guess it makes sense for those with a big audience, who are expecting a new book for their favorite writer.

      If you know you can make it, I figure why not, the longer you have a link to sell, the more you sell! :)

    I've been wondering about this because my book is coming out this halloween. I was like, is there really time for preorders??? It's my first full book so, I wasn't sure if I should even do preorders. Your videos have been helping me so much with this release day stuff!! Thank you!!!

    Thanks for this video! I am working on my very first art based book and was just thinking to myself recently about how to set up a good system for preorders! I also wanted to know if it was even worth doing a preorder, thanks for making this video! :)

    Hi Bethany,
    I've watched several of your videos and find them, without exception, informative and entertaining. You are a natural presenter! I don't know how you do all the stuff you do and still write successful books. I'm probably twice your age and you're who I want to be when I grow up, lol.
    Anyway, this comment is really more of a question. I know you've worked a lot with KDP, and Amazon in general, but have also "gone wide". My question is, do you believe it's necessary to be on Amazon to be a successful indie author? I understand that they're probably the biggest book seller in the world, and I understand that B&N and other brick and mortar stores would most likely want to work with traditionally published authors. But do you think it's an achievable career without Amazon? And I don't know that I would ask this question of anyone else, but you have consistently been very transparent, so I feel like it's a safe question: What percentage of your sales are through Amazon vs alternative sales venues? (Just signed up for your newsletter.)
    Thank you very much,
    Walt

    Very helpful! Now I get why authors want to do them, all about the hype! :) What is the benefit of readers to join in on pre-orders? Do you have a discount for them? If not, wouldn't' they find it irritating they can't just buy now and own it?

    • @BenitaPrinsNotTheAuthor
      @BenitaPrinsNotTheAuthor Před 3 lety

      Hey Lisa! I've never published using a preorder but from a reader's perspective, I just preordered two books for the first time ever. (One is The Enchanted Crown :) ) I preordered them both because I read the preceding books in the two series and then wanted the next instalment right away. I'm not irritated that they're not available yet since of course it takes time to publish a book :D but the benefit for me was that now I don't have to keep track of the release date in my mind because the books will just ship as soon as they're available.
      I think the benefit as an author would be exactly what I just described as my reader's experience: someone reads your book and loves it, the next one isn't available yet but they really want it, so they quickly preorder. Whereas if there weren't a preorder period, the reader might forget about your book and then not order the next one when it eventually does come out.

    Hi Bethany, this video couldn't have come at a better time. I've been really unsure whether or not to do a preorder. I recently watched a video by one if these KDP experts that said preorders can actively harm your sales after (!) launch if not enough people preorder (here the video: czcams.com/video/ugj0gC2OwQs/video.html ). If you're okay talking about it, what percentage of your sales is made during preorder? Would love to hear your thoughts 💙

    Hi, Bethany. I love your videos and they help me a lot with my own project, that's why ill love to ask you something, do you think someone new in the industry should make a preorder? I making my first poetry book and I'm thinking to do or not a preorder. than you so much for all the effort you put into your videos

      @BethanyAtazadeh  Před 3 lety

      Thank you! I don't see any downside to preorders at all on the marketing side, they can only help. The only reason I'd avoid a preorder is if the book might not get done by the deadline.

    so what is the preorder to next book preorderis ? do u mean embed clickable link in the ebook end , or a text in harcdopy & paper back as call to action? like what is your recommended way?

    Seems to be no consensus on this in the indie world. You can't talk up a launch date without knowing what it is and Amazon puts you into a review with no definite idea of when you will get out of it, so a preorder at least allows you to set a date.

    • @BethanyAtazadeh
      @BethanyAtazadeh  Před 2 lety +2

      Do I come into your house and tell you that you talk too much? No. Why not? Because that’d be rude and inappropriate. Treat people on the internet with some respect. This is MY channel, I’ll talk about whatever I want, and disrespect WILL lead to getting blocked because I don’t allow people to abuse me in my house.
