We got here ….now what? Arriving in St Thomas a few days before we started the sailing experience. We stayed in St Thomas and what a fun place to explore. The streets are full of life and very unique architecture. I highly suggest you visit the historic Synagogue, the second oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, offering guided tours for an admission of a donation or a purchase in their gift shop.
A few days later, once you have adapted to "island time," onward to catch the ferry to Road Town in the British Virgin Islands. Best to buy your tickets in advance and check their website as times vary by the time of year. The ride is about 45 minutes long and the views along the way are your preview of what is to come.
When you arrive, make sure you have your passport ready and your custom forms complete. We were supplied the custom forms on the ferry. Have a pen ready. To not feel rushed, we stayed at Maria's by The Sea Hotel, which was very close to the ferry. We arrived early, and they kept our luggage as we explored the town.
Up early and excited to get on our boat, we had to get supplies. Food and, of course, a few items for cocktail hour. We shopped at One Mart Superstore, which offered a shuttle service to the Mooring Marina as many people in this grocery store were here to stock their boat.
There is an option for the Mooring to stock the boat for you, but we wanted to pick our grocery items. And we love exploring grocery stores in different countries. Stay tuned for the video on island hopping in the famous waters of BVI.
