Why Gen Z Doesn't want to Work

- This clip is taken from this FULL VIDEO: • Why QUIET QUITTING is ...
Via the Full Video:
Quiet Quitting Tiktok has blown up in the past few months. Tik Tok users have been posting about their experiences with bad bosses, bad workplaces, and how they've quiet quit their jobs.
In turn, many have asked What is Quiet Quitting and Is Quiet Quitting a bad thing?
Quiet Quitting (QQ) can be defined as follows: Meeting your job's minimum requirements, but not going beyond. You're mentally checked out of work after you're off the clock.
"Quiet Quitting" largely came from Generation Z (Gen Z) kids, tired of their bad work environments, low wages, and bad bosses. The movement spread across Tiktok and other social media platforms quickly, as more and more young people identified with the trend, and some older boomers wrestled with the idea.
Today we examine Why Quiet Quitting has become so big and so popular over the past few months - we also address whether it's a good thing or a bad thing.
In my view, Quiet Quitting is a byproduct of decades of poor economic decisions, short sided corporate leadership, and working class burnout. Quiet Quitting, by virtue of what it is, means that workers are still collecting their paychecks, and doing the bare minimum work to collect those paychecks, but they're not getting mentally invested in their jobs. I argue that Quiet Quitters are extremely burnt out. Quiet Quitting is a byproduct of workplace burnout.
Some have referred to Quiet Quitting as Silent Quitting, because it's not technically quitting. Workers who quiet quit are really just checking the boxes of what their managers expect.
They're getting their jobs done - they're just not doing extra for zero pay. This is where you get the term "Act Your Wage" - if you're not being paid to do something, then don't do it.
I have a lot of sympathy for Gen Z and Millennials who are focused to Quiet Quit like this. Baby Boomers have beaten the idea of "hard work" into young people, but in 2022 - hard work is simply not enough. Young workers today are forced to work 2 and sometimes 3 jobs to survive. The idea of being mentally present and dedicated to multiple jobs isn't realistic.
Young people today are having troubles buying homes, buying cars, and even paying rent. The economy is doing terrible and young people are running out of options.
My argument is: If Gen. Z and Millennials can't afford homes even after dedicating themselves fully to a job, then why should we expect people not to quiet quit? Quiet Quitting can be a good thing if it means people can get paid for two or three jobs instead of just 1. Mental bandwidth is limited in 2022 and 2023. Our minds aren't limitless. We have to work smarter, not harder with our times.
The Working Class is Quiet Quitting your jobs because it's the only way to survive. Companies aren't paying out enough for people to justify complete loyalty to a single company.
Bosses aren't cutting checks good enough for the average middle class kid to buy a house.
Prices just keep going up. Corporate profits keep going up. Inflation keeps going up. The only thing that doesn't go up in any meaningful way is Worker Pay - Worker Wages - Worker Compensation.
These economic trends help to explain why quiet quitting happens.
Also, after the great resignation happened - worker burnout hit a new level. Workers who stayed at their jobs became very tired and overworked. Quiet Quitting is partially a byproduct of that great resignation that happened in mid to late 2022.
I believe that this movement is largely a defense mechanism of a stressed American Working Class. People can't justify being more productive when there's no monetary reward. Labor isn't free. Labor needs to be compensated - that's how the youth largely feels.
Some of the biggest names in media have talked about Quiet Quitting: Dr. Phil, Trevor Noah, Matt Walsh, Mr. Wonderful a.k.a kevin o'leary, joshua fluke, cnn, etc. This just goes to show how powerful this movement has become. Social media users have essentially started a digital union.
Workers rights will be fought for on social media in the next decade - that's the trend that I'm seeing.
I believe Quiet Quitting is a tool that Gen Z can use to regain leverage in the job market. Quiet Quitting is not a bad thing if used correctly. It could allow people in their 20's to have a brighter future. That's just my two cents though - what do you think?
Is Quiet Quitting a good thing?
or
Is Quiet Quitting a bad thing?

@@IsureamFallingSays who? Whats that supposed to mean?
@@IsureamFalling
I'm going to have to assume you haven't tried to job search in the last 6 months or year. It's become quite awful. There is a lot of fake job listings(ranging from scams to job application catchers that they may try to use 3 months to a year from now) job quality, wage and other concerns are heightened with the current a future cost of living. Many people who are overqualified for positions are going for multiple jobs to keep afloat. So you may be a perfectly fine candidate, but your competition might have a masters or higher. Also after covid related layoffs there are quite a few companies that realized they didn't need as many people to run things. Its not impossible by any means but I'm hearing some boomer style advice and snide remarks over younger people job searching

We don’t want to work because no job is paying near enough to pay for our own housing, bills, debt, food, money, the rising inflation, and the overall massive mental load that our generation has. Of course we’re depressed, because from the youngest age we saw what the world was like, all behind a screen. It took veterans serving in the war to realize it, we just had to type some letters on a slab of metal and glass. Every job, every house, every excuse that’s used for us being lazy is just making things worse. Do we have laziness issues? Absolutely! But at what point did that give anyone the right to belittle us, and forget that we just need a helping hand and support from the past so then we can be your future.
Fucking preach
It's like the older generations forget they are the ones that raised this "lazy" generation. We can be lazy for sure, but look at what we're up against from our perspective and you would feel the same way + tied with the way we were raised and what we witnessed as kids

We have the right to criticize everyone, and what is this "mental overload" you speak of? Seriously?
My dad's generation went through 13 years of the Great Depression, and they were suddenly thrust into the largest war in the history of the world. My dad had just turned 20 and was killing other young men his age and seeing his buddies get wounded and killed. He got wounded himself, and had to deal with his wounds for several years after the war, but he became a very successful building contractor and realtor.
And you want to talk about mental overload? Get out of here with that bullshit!
Most people your age vote Democrat, and all the Dems do is take half of your money out of your pocket via taxes and fees. They over regulate and tax the hell out of the companies you work for, making them uncompetitive with overseas companies. They implement policies, laws and regulations that drive inflation. They flood the country with poor immigrants, which drives down wages in most job sectors due to supply of labor exceeding demand.
Get a degree in something that has real world applications and/or learn a trade or skill that pays well. I did, and had 2 simultaneous careers as a firefighter paramedic AND a contractor. I retired at 49 from the fire dept as a captain due to an off duty recreation injury. I have a good pension, and I am still working as a contractor. All of the hard work has paid off.

Something that I think young ppl don't get though, is that the thought of idea of doing it is much easier than actually doing it. There's unexpected cost, unexpected competition, unexpected time needed to invest. There's ups, downs and dedication and resilience comes into play. It may be somewhat easy flipping on amazon, but do you have the finances to start, what if you encounter competition and what if the items you projected or that was projected to sell well comes to a crawl. Young ppl often don't have the right experience to know things can be much more difficult than it is on paper. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. We get caught up in success stories, but those success stories are few compared to how many tried
Or it could be literally no one pays a survivable wage anymore. The american worker is treated like a serf or disposable resource that businesses wont hesitate to screw over or break. We dont get benefits that help, our pay is shit, our workload is intense, we pretry much have no time off, employers can basically do whatever they want to us. We dont want to work because work no longer benefits us. Nobody wants to work, thats why people get paid. If no one wants to work, then maybe its because the compensation doesnt outweigh the stress and personal expenses of the job.
Well said. These kids dont have a clue. They see 10 yeaes into the future at most. They are not looking 30 or 40 years down the road. This is how people end up on the streets of LA. @@Wrldfait it's about the propagation of the idea "most" people from this generation are getting into, of course there are a bunch others doing regular work, or what suits them better and not being caugh in those stories.
Find our what? A 9-5 is the only way to make a living? Yeaaah imma work smarter and not harder.
Thats the only way people learn. So i wouldn't worry too much about it.
What do you want me to do? Work 9-5 and work till my 60s and get retired when I Die? I would rather spend my 20s working hard and retire early and live my life then to just work Like a rat all my life
It's not our fault We've given up because our entire life we've been told that the world is burning humans are evil and we are insignificant
We believe we can't do it because that is what we've been taught
I rarher not be a slave bruh i want to have my own land where i can provide for myself without the government holding my hand.
Ok stay POOR.. young generation!
They are making me so mad they are spoiled lil kids yeah the rent is high then vote what is right
Fatherless generation no one is teaching them how to live
And stupid too....
Even if you are working you stay poor now. Cause jobs don’t pay living wage…
Who in the world says making $60k a year is easy? Da fuck kinda world do you live in???
It's pretty easy.
@@cyberpleb2472 how?
I notice there is two archetypes in the gen z work ethic. Those "ride and grind" (closer to their older millennial siblings/cousins & probably influenced by them) & the "standalone types" who never really had a strong older millennial influence and they are online savvy. I think we have every right to not worry about half of gen z's right now. The other half....we have to worry about rightfully so... Because they are being deluded into a social media swing that if they get likes overnight they will be billionaires
I'm not going to be a wage slave to make money for the rich while the middle class suffers. Living paycheck to paycheck is not living. I'd rather die
If it is so easy, why they just don‘t do it right away and start their own business instead of coming with a wishlist to the job interview?!
Gen Z was pampered and spoiled too much and that‘s why they are super self-conscious telling how work has to look like while they have no experience at all.
And guess who's fault is it that they got pampered. Oh right! It's the generation that came before them
@@QWERTYUIOP-wu6ht I totally agree.
@@QWERTYUIOP-wu6ht it's true, their parents worked so hard for them that they forgot how to work for themselves.

Not everybody can be instagram or tiktok famous..... that's a dumb assumption that keeps lots of people playing pretend.
Plus y'all don't k'ow how many of these influencers are fake rich
I grind on social media and don't get any views now. I get him, but he's making things seem easier than what they are.
that's how they sell you the hype. go outside and get a job that pays your bills.
What this generation does not understand is that if everyone goes into online selling there will not be those to build or manufacture products, at certain point, this model colapses sooner rather than later.
Thing is social media won't last forever, atleast I hope not....
Yes it is😂, it only keeps advancing it might be in another way, but technology will never go away with the world digitalizing and everything being much more digital people are always going to want to connect online

I was 16 when i started a physical job and havent stopped since. I need spine surgery and again im 35. I cannot afford a new place or even rent if i go off work.
I will simply add the the lossless number of homeless. Love your content😊
What are you flipping that it's so easy to get $60K a year? And that's after Postage,Packaging materials etc.?
Printers were an easy flip I did a lot early in college. People will donate / throw away their $600 printers because they don’t know how to crack open a printer & clean a print head.
My average profit per printer was about $100. If I had taken it more serious & combined that with other flips, I think I could reasonably make $40,000 - $60,000 per year.
@@MitchellKeahey Printers are extremely cheap these days. It costs more for the ink than for the printers themselves. Even for more expensive printers only businesses buy those ones, and they'll just hire someone to clean, or do repairs. Would recommend you flip computers instead due to the chip shortage.
Gen Zs are aware of the options they have, they just don't want to move a finger to do any of those options
Simple LAZINESS
lazinness is a sign of pride. One of the deadly sins.
selfish smh
na this is so dumb, the oldest gen z's are 27. We're all too young to start getting into high paying jobs or working. As well with people not retiring, forcing us to go to college before we start and it usually takes a year or two before we get a job even related to our degree we obtain thru spending 40k+ on school. Boomers fucked us over, and blame us for their issues, when we're the ones that are going to fix them. You guys are lazy not us.
My sister who's gen z pretends to be disabled so they don't have to work
I would like to see this confidences when you are not living at your parents house(and not getting any money from them for anything!) and actually working to pay rent bills and food...let's see how you are then kid.
Uh oh. Make way millennia’s we got some Z boy who thinks they figured it out.😂

How though?? No one taught us this and we feel stuck. I'm an older Gen Z btw
With your head up your ass!
Flipping things,
Social Media, and things like that... are NoT work. You don't have a job if you are Flipping things. You Dont have a job if you make money from social media fans.
I see the worst work ethics in young people. Parents have given them too much. They feel like a job should cater to them!! When you pay for a service or product you expect it to be what's advertised. Shortchanged, don't pay attention, doesn't really care and these kids should be fired and others willing to work as the owner instructs. You're going to make a couple mistakes but it cannot keep happening. Learn how to work or go home and he broke
What if all skilled workers had this mindset, were would live? TikTok won’t fix your car, build your house. These kids are living in a fantasy world.
There are options but the reality is that only 1 percent can make 6 figures. Not everyone has the work ethics to do the work.
Its funny how all the successful people who get lucky in digital careers are promoting them. Its like a 7 ft tall basketball player saying its easy to make good money. Its crazy people are dropping out of college to do 40 hour weeks on youtube for pennies in a market 10 years old and no job security. Big yikes when a 40 year old youtuber ends up working at mcdonalds
"See when you're young, you think you know every damn thing.. Until life smashes you in the face with the truth of it's indifference towards you. And you know all those older people that you think are dumb and don't listen to? Once you get a couple of SCARS you'll find out how stupid they really are." ~ Bill Duke Actor.. MONEY does NOT= HAPPINESS.. What he's talking about in this video is EXCEPTIONAL. This is NOT going to happen for MOST people. Only a few. So don't bank on it!
The problem is everyone is listening to this guy and then continuing to not do nothing just wasting their life away they just use this guy's an excuse to play video games whatever job they're at because for some reason they think he's talking about them

Same Genz person 2023: whaaaaaaa cancel student loan debt!!!!!!
Trades are around for as long as we live tik tok and youtube will not be
This short doesn't match the title. It says why Gen z doesn't want to work a $40k a year job, but it doesn't address the aversion to working in general.
Gen z: why don't we have any food!!!
Also gen z: why should I be a farmer when I could be an influencer.
Working office 9 to 5 and making just enough or very little is not good for the soul. I'm 37 I advise any young people today is learn to be an electrician or plumber if you are not academic material, too much paperwork for some people and too many digits , get out in the fresh air and understand the robots are taking white collar with it.
It's definitely not easy to make $60k a year when most companies pay around $10-$13 an hour.
And i doubt its easy to make on your own.
The reward for working your fingers to the bone is boney fingers and 600k in medical bills.
My attention span can finish this video. And I'm an adult.

I am completely aware of my options. I’m 25 been fully employed sense 18 with an associates degree I looked for a job for 6 months. Finally got one and it’s like they don’t even want me their. My boss my last meeting was openly complaining about having to have employees
People also don't wanna hire people with disabilities because they don't wanna pay for the accommodations that person might need and also don't want that person to be liability on their end.

You can say lazy but i honestly feel that GEN Z was at the wrong time it had to be late when lets say robots take over or something. Because even some GEN Z that are talented or active dont want to work. Its not lazyness its the fact that They dont want someone to force them to do something. Gen z like to be there own boss. GEN Z grew up good but later got worse. Due to School and people Gen millenials acting dumb then effects Gen z. We cant blame it all on Z
Every Gen Z I know wants to work but there is not enough jobs, the employed ones does not make enough to survive.
This is poor insight... old jobs are required to make the system function. If gen z only wants to make money online, who will work manual jobs or manufacturing to keep those online platforms running?
The elite will have to slave away in thier stupid businesses for the low quality jobs. Good luck azzwholes!
Good luck being able to be of any value in terms of skill sets once we lose the power grid. Gen Z's only "life skills" are internet based and will be useless once the power grid is taken down.

Temporary, Staffing agencies usually make an average margin of 25% - 100% of an employee's salary or charge a flat fee of $15k per employee.
I finally understand how being oppressed like a Palestinian feels like. Being a Gen Z in the working world gives me nothing but constant scrutiny everyday
Ah yes Gen z, the lack of social skills generation
As a 22 year old, it is not that easy. I’m focused on gaining as much experience, and knowledge in a trade, or more than one, as I possibly can. I’d rather learn a useful skill like electrical work, or mechanical work, than worry about a Shopify account.
Must be nice , the rest of us have to work 120 hours at minimum wage
This is the generation defending our Country.
Social media should stop paying them because it's just stupid.
The free market should stop being free because you think it’s stupid?
You make those 6 figures yet?
Not yet. Like I said, that’ll take 2 to 3 years of proper work. I posted this video 9 months ago and I’m approaching 5 figures, but 6 figures - give me another 18 to 24 months.
So you’re making under 10k?
Is that your main source of income?
But yet gen z suffers from depression the most suicide rates in gen z are the highest
Its like when you talk about everything you would buy if you win the lottery but never buy a ticket. Gen Z wants 40k for getting out of bed.
You wanna be happier?, here is a free tip, do not bend over backwards for any employer, just do your job, thats it, 8 hours worth and no more, you can't stuff 10 gallons of shit in a 5 gallon bucket, if you try, you'll only end up pissing yourself off, there is no 110%, there no "here, we are a family", 90% of the time promotions are given to whoever kisses the most ass or to friends or people they somehow know from before, most people are mad at their job because they give more than they are supposed to and get NOTHING in return, the whole "hard work" talk is bull shit in most cases, just do a good job, thats it.
Facts ❤
To be fair no one wants to work and only works for money but gen z is notably more lazier than any other generation
"Flipping on eBay" most of that is called scalping and should be illegal
Face it. Who wants to work. But most are not so arrogant as to expect others to be their slaves for their food, clothing, shelter, non essentials, etc.

Man one's saying this are the one's living off their parents.
