    I grew up camping in Indian Boundary in the 70s. A lot of people may not know it, but off of Loop B, between it and the lake, there was an old amphitheater. They had live music and would show movies at nights for the campers, and have church on Sundays. It was destroyed by a tornado back in ‘91. The original beach was actually off of A Loop. It had a round stone island, which is still there and can be seen on Google Earth. People would swim out there and hang out, but snakes became a problem on the island and they closed it (that’s what I heard anyways). In the middle of Loop B there is a remnant of what the original campsites were like. Each tent site was lined in a square of river rock. And one last thing- the original bathhouses only had cold water, which I hated as a kid.

    Love Indian Boundry. As a teen before the Cherohala Skyway and Indian Boundry were built we used to hunt there and that area was called The Flats. The store manager is my Nephew hope they were nice to you. I know they were Jeff and his wife are great folks. As a little brag I worked on the last segments of the highway in 1964, I believe. I was a Heavy equipment Operator.

      Excellent Advice. For all the youngsters out there: You know there was a time telephones were only stuck to the wall inside the home. Camping meant no phone!! So leave it home!!

    Love the format of your videos. You provide a TON of really useful information at the beginning, and then actually SHOW the area and the sites...something severely lacking from other camping videos. "Beware, if you come to this campground, you won't be on your cell phone much." That is one of the nicest statements you could make about a campground, no cell service. The overriding idea about "getting out in nature, away from the hustle and bustle", is not having the umbilical cord still attached to the outside world. In an emergency situation sure it is nice to have that instant communications, but humans have survived for thousands of years without cell phones or service. That last statement will be hard for some to deal with. Or understand. The self-reliance concept. Keep up the trips and your take on the places you guys visit.

    • @GoingNoWhereFast
      @GoingNoWhereFast  Před 5 lety

      Ernest Paul I’m just finishing up hiking around Smoky Mountains and I can’t believe the number of people that are talking on their cell phones while walking around the trails. Sometimes I say things to them but most of the time they just grimace.

    • @ernestpaul2484
      @ernestpaul2484 Před 5 lety +1

      @@GoingNoWhereFast That's the umbilical cord I referred to. Too "busy" on the phone to be aware of their surroundings, let alone to be situationally aware. I have a "smart" phone that the wife talked me into "upgrading" from my flip phone a year ago. It does the same thing the flip phone did/does, stays in the Nite Ize belt pouch unless it rings or I have to make a call or take a picture for some reason.
