    I went to Mom's just down the road from Julian Pie Co one time with a group of 6 people and it was all brand new staff being trained. We all made our pie and sandwich orders and then got them. Then they started bringing out another pie slice. Then a sandwich. Then another pie slice. Somehow our orders weren't tossed after being fulfilled and we discovered a glitch in the pie matrix. We wound up with a whole pie box full of different flavors. Since I had a bungee net and side cases, I was tasked with leftover pie hauling responsibilities.

    Living down the hill from Julian, we ride through Julian frequently on local rides. I expected you’d stop at their quaint Julian home location on Main St., but you visited their Santa Ysabel location seven miles west, where the pie is just as yummy.. Don’t think there’s any pie shop in Julian that won’t have anything but the best apple pie.. The lady that created the JPC, passed recently. Her associates continue her legacy of “the best”.. Ride on..

    Hi Tim, I live I so cal and experience those high winds in all of my travels on scooters and motorcycles. I’m glad you called it and found a motel. I’ve ruffed it through some serious dangerous winds, although it’s made some memories, I was really lucky to come through unscathed. Those that don’t travel out here on a regular basis might not understand the intense winds and how challenging it is to ride threw.

I am fairly new to the ADV world and this is my second season. I will be doing the NMBDR in October starting from Truth Or Consequences but, leaving my home near Houston Texas. A friend and I did the other sections back in may and he won't be able to join me in October. Watching you and learning your habits while solo is really inspirational. This will be a pretty interesting FIRST long haul solo moto camp trip. Like you have stated in other videos, I had my wife and oldest son DL the apps I use just in case they need to know the route.

I wanted to ask a question if you don't mind. You sometimes include scenes inside a business or in a busy public area. It's great content that really adds to the overall video. You appear to capture warm greetings and smiles rather than strange or suspicious reactions. Are you giving people a heads up or asking permission before you shoot the video? I'm just wondering what the proper way is to handle this. Thanks for all you share.

Great video as always, my brothers in Los Angeles and I'm about to retire from the military, I keep telling him once I retire I'll take a trip out to visit with him and I really want to see the west it's been about 10 years. The west certainly has a feel to it that I miss, been stuck in Louisiana for a while and ready to get away from swamps, algae, mold, and cajun food.

    I havent commented before but I have been watching your channel for over a year to learn from your experiences. I do appreciate it. Do you have some experiences you can share about breaking down deep into the desert, forest, mountains, and how you got out of it? If so, I hope you will share a video of this. I am soon going to sell everything and live off my bike for at least a couple of years. It will be a little more wilderness type touring than you because I won't be staying in hotels or camp grounds, ever. My bike is a dual sport, essentially a off road bike that is street legal. It will be all dispersed camping and as far away from other campers as possible. I have a lot of experience camping and had a lot of experience off road riding when I was younger. So I didn't just lose my mind one day and decide to do this with no experience with motorcycles or camping. I just havent combined the two before.
    The changing weather, wildlife, and hardships do not give me pause. What I am having anxiety about is having my bike break down in the middle of the wilderness. I will have a satellite emergency phone, but that is to rescue me, not my bike. I have experience backpacking, plotting direction even without GPS, and with food and water emergency preparation, so as long as I am not injured or eaten by anything, I will get out. But how will I get my bike out? No tow trucks can go back for my bike and if I am on a single track, no four wheel vehicles either. Im not skilled at working on bikes, even if I was, I may need parts and specialized tools. Im not rich, so I cant afford to hire a helicopter to retrieve it. So what is the reality I have to face in this situation, to buy a new bike everytime this happens?
    I can see the writing on the wall, so I dont need anyone to point out to me what being f-cked looks like. I'm asking this question because I know a lot of people ride deep into the wilderness, probably not solo like me, but sometimes they go single tracking for a 100+ miles. So are there solutions to this disaster that I am not aware of? Any insight would be appreciated.

    • @FTAAdventures
      @FTAAdventures  Před 2 lety +1

      I wish I could offer some advice on this, but it’s just a risk we choose to take. The sat communicator should be able to get you a tow truck even off road as long as it’s wide enough. As far as single track you may be reliant on a passerby, so carry a tow strap just in case. Most common issue I have is tire related so obviously make sure you cover your bases there. As long as you keep up on maintenance that should prevent a number of problems. Hope this helps! Good luck on your travels

    • @phathokum1855
      @phathokum1855 Před 2 lety +1

      @@FTAAdventures I know your advice is just common sense to yourself and other experienced adventure riders out there, but to a newbie like me, its valuable. I had planned on taking some rope but I have never heard of a tow strap for motorcycles before, so I will be getting one of those. Also, I didnt know tow trucks would drive miles off road even if they had the clearance. When I think of tow truck, I think of AAA and a car broken down next to the highway. I am going to call some tow companies near government forrest, etc and get more insight on this. This is important because when I mentioned single track, it was only as an example of how these trails can run many miles into the wilderness. In reality, I will be doing little single track riding because I will be carrying 200lbs of supplies. To protect my subframe, I will be using my bike like a two wheel jeep, riding slow and mostly on roads that people can four wheel on. So if tow trucks will tuff it in the jeep territory with the right clearance, I can be more careful where I go while still enjoying the adventure. I thought a lot about maintenance over the months and Im getting the lowest maintenance duel sport there is and the foam tire inserts to protect against flats. As you said, we can only prepare to a point, after that, there is a certain amount of risk we are forced to accept. Thank you and keep uploading the awesome content!

    keep it up. 1 day at a time ❤
    re "Cold" I do a lot of winter riding IE Dry but Temps below 32F. I find a wool neck gater makes a major difference. Also IN summer soaking it helps cooling.

      You can top it off by pulling back the rubber

    Hey Tim, are you planning to go longer and start to venture outside of the US, maybe drive down to tierra del fuego.

    Nice video. I noticed your bike uses 91 octane. My k1600 does to. I’m headed to Alaska this year. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get super unleaded. Any suggestions to supplement my fuel?

    Hi Tim, thank you for great videos, always insightful for my trips! I came across the Dynaplug air compressor video from 2yrs ago and was wondering if you still used it or found something better?

    How do you like the marrakesh jacket Tim? I’ve tried it on and was super comfortable. I’m in the south and worried on how well it would do with Georgia/Alabama summers.

      I haven’t been using it for long, no experience in high heat but it does good in the cold

    I didn't get a chance to camp in the desert but I did enjoy the epic ride from Banner to Julian on my V-Strom 650 adventure motorcycle. My little road trip video is here (czcams.com/video/lSoyWaEsXW8/video.html) if interested. I'd love to camp in the Ocotillo Flats area and do some OHV... next time!
