Thanks for watching! I would love to hear if you've had success with Fall carrots.

Subscriber 108 here. I missed carrot planting this year. My cucumber plants took over the raised bed where I grow carrots and didn't die off until that big freeze. Going to try some in buckets this weekend just for the heck of it and see how it goes. Love those large black buckets you have there. What size are those. Looks like they might be good for potatoes. Our fig tree, which was at least 15 years old and had a trunk about 8' in diameter died off during that big freeze here in Houston a couple years ago. Along with our lemon, grapefruit and orange tree. Was a sad day.

The large black tubs I have are about 25 gallons. They are feed tubs that have molasses or sometimes protein feed for livestock. When they are empty they make exceptional - although very large - containers. My father-in-law still runs cattle and I’ve gotten a few from him. But most I’ve gotten through a friend a work who has family that ranches near Hallettsville. They make great wicking tubs!

Hi Scott, another great video and you are spot on with everything you have said. I started volunteering at an adult day service centre which provides activities for people with downs syndrome, full spectrum autism and learning difficulties, as a gardener, it has an enormous horticultural site attached in which the services users can participate and learn about gardening, we will be applying your methods to our autumn carrot sowing/growing next week.
Will you be filming the sowing of your carrot seeds and also do you get carrot root/white fly where you are like we do in England?? Keep the videos coming Scott 😁🌱🥕☀️

I have never had an issue with white fly, but I am growing in containers. My 5 gallon buckets are tall enough to protect my carrots from the low flying insects. Aren’t these the flies that have very limited vertical flight? About 18” or so? I already seeded one bucket (and did not film) because we are supposed to get rain today and tomorrow. I will see if I can film my second bucket this weekend. That sounds like a really cool thing you are doing, volunteering at the adult service center! I wish all the luck with the gardening there!!! Gardening is so great for everyone, especially people who have special gifts. It’s tactile and kinesthetic and allows anyone an opportunity to be present in the moment. Let me know how it goes!

@@greyghostgardening5353 yes, low flying, I always plant my carrots a metre high or put a fine cover over them if in the ground. My garden is about 4mx7m so I'm limited on what I can grow but make use of vertical planting spaces. Most of my raised beds have an incorporated trellis with a dexion rail on top. I grow all my tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, melons, peas and beans up para cord which are attached to the rail with carabiner hooks, it makes it easier to manage the pruning and harvesting of each plant. There are also many chilli pepper plants in containers which is handy to move into the full sunshine for ripening the fruits.
I'm so lucky to be able to walk 10mins down the road to the service centre to work in their gardens which have three 40'x15' polytunnels and two smaller green/glass houses and such a vast space allows them to grow a very wide variety of plants. I'm allowed to plant whatever vegetables I choose and get to try some unusual ones too.
I look forward to your next video Scott, have a great weekend 😁🌱☀️
