Thanks, that stopped my frustration from building
Well explained! Thanks!
Yes! Thank you :) I need more videos like that!
I was looking for this. A sense of what can be done with just this one synth. The other videos I've come across all has it as part of a setup and that's probably fine if you already know what you're doing but like another guy here I also come from guitars and have become synth-curious. I needed the basics and you delivered just that.
Highly appreciated!
I was precisely looking for a tutorial to start understanding the Volca... Thanks😀
I found this helpful after receiving the Korg Volca Keys as a gift. The instructions give you technical overview of knobs/buttons, but not how to manipulate the sounds. Looking forward to more beginner videos on this device.
the first hour or so one spends on using an analog synth is comprised of what i like to call TechnoFarts. With patience though the process starts to make sense.
This is an excellent tutorial . Better than I could have hoped for . Thank you .
Thank you so much for this! I am a guitar player and recently got curious about synths. Picked up some volcas but I am absolutely clueless
We are in the same case dude, i mean need another instrument to explore music more
Holy cow, man, thank you! I thought the damn thing was broken when I got it second hand ;)
Thank you, this helped me :)
Thanks so much for this video! Like many of the others that commented, I've been looking for a video to get me started with the Volca Keys, and have just found many spectacularly unhelpful ones. At last, a video that helped me create my first tone and make a sequence!
Nice overview, thanks for the quick explanation. It really helped. I too thought my second hand Keys was broken at first ! 🤣
Very good and helpful for beginning /-ers.
Thank you! 😉🙏👍
Thank you!
Thank you so much! Finally something that makes sense to an inexperienced synth noob :-).
thanks so much. i was having a really hard time getting a usable sound until i saw this.
That was excellent, thank you
thank you. great straight forward approach and now i know hot to make a sound on this thing.
Thanks!
Toppie!!! Slow as it goes. Thats the way I like it. Clear and very informing explanation!
I know very little about analog synthesis, so, this here video was very helpful (I'm primarily a guitar player, but I love synth music, too). I really liked the explanation about each function of the Volca. I too, would definitely like to see you do more videos like this. By the way, in the future, would like to see you do a lesson on how to create pad sounds with the Korg Volca (for creating ambient synth music).
thank you alot, very helpful, would you do one about the Korg Volka Bass please?
hi Richard...great video!!! i like your no nonsense very basic walkthrough with clear non fussy commentary...very helpful to me as a step sequencer novice...PLEASE COULD YOU DO MORE! could you possibly do a video explaining how to create patterns, how to switch between them and how to bring them in and out during playback...in essence what buttons to press at what times to achieve this.
i think you have a niche to expand into here tutorial wise as theres very little on the "idiots guide" or total newbie to step sequencers related to volcas...it would help so msny of us im sure. THANKYOU and GREAT WORK😊👍
Thank you so much! I have a Roland sh-201, that I don't know how to use and a volca keys I don't know how to use either. I purchased both with the intent of learning synthesis and I haven't until I sat down with my keys and this video (which have been extremely helpful). So I commend and thank you for this!
Very helpful!!!
3:30 Cutoff INT under LFO pertains to the intensity with which the LFO modulates the cutoff frequency of the VCF, it does not affect the envelope generator (EG)
Yes. Thanks. See Morgan's comment earlier. I added an overlay comment on the video, but these apparently are only visible on a computer. Cheers.
Hm, it doesnt do anything, if I turn on EG INT and CUTOFF INT... Why? Also Peak does not change the sound... :O
I have a question! I just got a new Volca Keys and when I turn it to Poly Mode, 32', and play the lower C note, the saw sounds clipped or boomy. When I add about 98% resonance, it gets buzzy and sounds normal. It only does this to the lower half of that octave range. A C +1oct. up from that sounds perfectly normal with or without resonance. Does anyone else experience this?
thanks... i just bought a volca keys... have no idea about music or synths, but just wanted one to try and recreate some vince dicola tunes.... would the volca bass be good to compliment the keys, or should i get the volca fm
I don't care what anybody says this synthesizer is not for beginners good info man!
I have ALL 6 Korg Volca's Really like them; now I need to figure out how to use them. Also have the 2 Monotron's.
Hey man awesome video ! I have a little question for you ! . How do i connect my volca to my pc and then be able to send midi information from my daw to the volca and be able to record that ? Thanks !
Hi. The keys has only a "midi in" port. So no export of midid without modification. Cheers.
You will need an audio interface with midi out or a usb to midi cable. Then from the daw open your midi sequencer. Inn fl studio you have the midi Keys if iremember right. Make your sequence in your daw, set the right channel to midi out and connect the cable you your volca. it should play the sequence from your daw. Now connect the audio cable from your volca to your sound card s in and record what it plays from a record software. Hope this help s
Price range is for beginners perhaps but can be quite a complex lil instrument
Agreed. Certainly the approach to learning it, is a blend of art and science! Thanks for the comment. :)
help, my keys sounds like a dying seal, no matter what I do, how to just get a basic cool tone out of it?
Does it have an internal speaker? Or it has to be plugged on a amp?
It has a small internal speaker. And you can plug in headphones or output to speakers or another device using the 3.5mm stereo jack.
I'm a noob. Do I need to buy an Audio Interface if I want to record music on my laptop with this keyboard as midi?
This unit just has midi in. You would use the audio out (headphone jack) into an audio interface (through the audio jacks) . The audio interface would convert the audio to digital and transport into the computer by USB. You name the audio interface as your source in your recording software. Work great. I have never regretted buying mine. Good luck!
@@ChannelofRichPierik OK I understand! Thx for the quick reply!
I dont understand , do i need a laptop with software to run this or is it built in sounds that need to PC?
It is an instrument that stands alone if you wish. You can also attach a controlling music keyboard and if you wish, and you may control if by "midi" from other sources including a computer. Good luck.
Nice, but too short. I must search for the real use of the features of the volca keys. Synthesis is the same on many synths. But good made video
Nice to have something very basic. The Keys can easily sound nasty so it's good to know where to start. A small note: I thought the "Cutoff Int" knob controls how much the LFO modulates the VCF cutoff not the EG?
Thanks Morgan. You are correct. The block diagram in the manual makes it clear for me now. Cheers.
Thanks! I hooked up my Volca Keys and said "IT'S BROKEN! ONOZ!" only to realize that i am an FM Synthesis guy!
Nice video, can it send notes to a DRUMBRUTE IMPACT? Thanks.
There is no Midi out on the Volca Keys. So not by this means at least.. Cheers.
If you Google hard enough, you can find out how to add MIDI out to a Volca Keys, either via a DIN socket or a 3.5mm jack.
what can you do with the "saw", "tri" and "square" buttons?
It changes the type of waveform in use by the synth. The difference May not be apparent at first. But reveals itself as you tweak the settings.
These settings are a trap for young players, as they say. They don't change the shape of the three main oscillators, but instead change the shape of the LFO waveform.
How to record volca keys patch through a program (.wave, mp3 or whatever program)
I use an audio interface. Here is a link to a basic explanation:

Cheers
Still confused. This shit is HARD to use! I still have the KORG MK2 and still have trouble with it. So many buttons.
most modern synths use modelling and not samples /
It's not similar to reverb, 'cause it's midi delay.
You could have talked a little more about the VCO section and perhaps how to change the shape of the wave would have been pretty useful, too. You also didn't explain the difference between Poly, Unison, Fifth, and the other options on that knob. Overall, this is somewhat helpful. but it could have been more helpful.
Hola muy buen video, aquí un tutorial en español: czcams.com/video/TCtm8INFraQ/video.html
Hah, first video on the volca keys that didn't have my blood pressure going through the roof! Thanks for the basics, I needed that.
Perfect! :)
