    I have been lucky enough to have owned both examples, I prefer the FPJ as it is way more interesting and exclusive. I have found Patek to be boring and over-rated. Everybody thinks they want a Patek, but most [ IMO ] don't, once they have owned one....

    F.P. Journe - hands down.

  • @supremegalacticcommander2783

    FPJ for aesthetics and exclusivity reasons, but for reliability would have to go for the PP. I way prefer the dial on FPJ. Both amazing though, thanks for sharing Tim!

    • @thehealer74
      @thehealer74 Před 7 lety +4

      As I mentioned above, I own both and in accuracy the Journe is more accurate and easier to set. Both rotating on a B&Z time machine and the 5146 needs adjustment every 10 days with an average loss of 2-3 minutes while the Journe once every moth of 1-2 minutes. NOTE: Both have been services last year 2015.

    • @thehealer74
      @thehealer74 Před 7 lety +1

      It has a better theatrical arraignment plus a movement that follows the looks. Mr. Journe is a big fan of astrolabes and he has quite a collection which is greatly reflected in his work. I own both watches but my Calanderier is with a rose gold while my Patek 5146 is with an Ivory dial.

    When was the 5146G ever made in 37mm? Or did the video reviewer misspeak / confuse it with the 5036?
    The 5146G in the video sure looks like 39mm... just appears much smaller than the FPJ because of the stepped bezel.

    The FPJ is a piece of art, the likes of which will no longer be produced once the watch maker himself is no longer living. The Patek is arguably the pinnacle of the holy trinity of high horology. The Patek is aspirational, but the FPJ is is infinitely more artistic and rare.

    A challenge to put these two in the same video, as Journe walks to a very different drummer and the Patek brand seeks more to refine the standard. This comparison feels a bit tilted towards the Patek, which is my bias with these two as well.

    I don't know is it that hard to offer a skeletonised winding rotor to see the movement properly, especially at this price range? Half of the movement is obstructed at all times and what is the point having exhibition casebacks anyway. Just my thoughts

  • @jameswestconsultant
    @jameswestconsultant Před 7 lety

    Comparing the Patek 5396 Annual Calendar to the FPJ would have been better as they are closer in size and price. I own both, but have the simple calendar FPJ Octa Reserve de Marche (40mm) in platinum. The Journe is certainly more exclusive and interesting, even without the complication level of your example, and more fun in an "Eraserhead" (David Lynch) sort of way. The Patek has the moon phase and the classic feel only a Patek really offers. A tough choice indeed, I was looking to flip my Patek for the FPJ in this video but it's about a $10K upgrade in price on the preowned market. It should never be said that the 40mm Journe watches do not hold their value, as this case in point demonstrates ☝🏻️
