Hi there, this genre is Old English Folk ballad from Medieval times (Middle Ages)…almost 600 years old and was made popular again by Simon And Garfunkel, an American duo in 1966. Forestella just made this old favourite into their own with this amazing arrangement and magic vocal harmonies. They are a true crossover group, and refuse to be labelled as belonging to one genre, they operate in many different genres and languages because each member has different musical interests and tastes and even music training. Two are classically trained/ opera singers, one of whom is the leader of the group and has a light tenor voice or leggiero, but operates in different vocal ranges. Cho MinGyu also was the youngest member to join the Seoul Metropolitan Opera where he worked on various stages for 3-4years. The other classically trained one, the youngest member, is the bass singer Ko Woorim , …with a rare sub- bass voice known as basso profundo, was still a university student in his third year of a bachelor of music degree when he auditioned. He has done a few recitals after graduating but opted to study for his Masters degree in Music like the leader Cho MinGyu did years before. He has worked hard and greatly expanded his vocal range while in Forestella and can now sing with a much broader vocal range. So due to choosing to complete his studies , only had his first solo concert in 2023, 3 weeks before enlisting for his mandatory military service in 20th November 2023. The tenor soprano Kang HyungHo, is a multi-talented self-trained musician and experienced rock-singer and frontman for rock bands since helping to form a band called PITTA @ university until he met the others at an audition in 2017 for tv competition Phantom Singer 2 which was looking to form a crossover quartet. He earned a degree in chemical engineering and worked as a research chemist for 4 years while doing his music part-time for years. Launched a solo career alongside Forestella activity with the single, Universe in October 2020 , resurrecting the name PITTA, an homage to his earlier band mates and with another member Lee Eunwoo. And the last one Bae Doohoon, with his baritone tenor voice, has a degree in musical theatre majoring in acting, but prior to Forestella was also guest frontman for a Korean traditional-rock fusion (gukak-rock) band , Aux and another earlier band Sorea. …granted leave from the Navy when he was doing his national service to audition for The Voice Korea 2nd Series and reached the semi-finals in 2013👏👏👏, in 2021 Doohoon was crowned 159th generation Masked King becoming the 53rd title winner of the show.👏👏👏, plus other performances and musicals. Still active today in musicals alongside Forestella commitments…just finished the role of MARK in RENT. Each member is a talented musician in their own right, passionate about music, and showing what amazing music can be made with classical elements sprinkled throughout..and when they perform anywhere together, their chemistry is palpable and the sound they produce is sometimes otherworldly.

This is from old English folk song. Simon&Garfunkel version is the most famous as far I know.
There are some stories about this song Scarborough Fair..what I've read was this is a song from a ghost (soul) of a dead soldier. He asked the herbs growing on his dead body to deliver his message to his beloved girl in Scarborough Fair where was a big herb market. He asked the herbs to tell her impossible task "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt without no seams nor needle work" to make her give up waiting for his coming back as he's already unable as he's dead. Forestella sang like as messengers of this sad and beautiful story.
Also there are symbols those herbs significated: parsley for comfort or to remove bitterness, sage for strength, thyme for courage, and rosemary for love. There's some speculation that these four herbs were used in a tonic of some sort to remove curses. What I first heard was to remove memories..so I thought he (the dead soldier) wanted to remove the memory about him from his girl to make her not mourning for him anymore.
BTW I found those herbs cannot be grown in the same areas in fact while on my researching English references.. so it could be just for remembering the recipe for turkey seasoning ingredients, too.

My 1st recommendation is a Korean song, Footprints in the Sand from November 2018 on an Immortal Songs episode. Or an Italian song L’Immensita or Shape of You in English , Spanish and Zulu;😊or if you’re up for it…SMOOTH CRIMINAL…always remembering Forestella members aren’t dancers, but worked hard on their first proper choreographed dance moves. Perhaps a more recent performance as a temporary trio while Woorim is away, SHOW MUST GO ON!😮

Scarborough Fair is an old English Folk Song from around the sixteenth century. Simon and Garfunkel had a very successful cover of it in the sixties. Scarborough is an English town but I believe it no longer has its historic (trade) fair.
They have lovely covers of Nella Fantasia, Parla Piu Piano and Sound Of Silence.
just googled it and the fair ended in 1788 due to increasing competition from another fair in the region called the seamer fair.
