Very informative, thanks for the advice! I was lucky enough to see Katharine speak in Austin last night. I think that she is probably the most effective voice for climate action that I've ever heard because of her willingness to meet and talk to people at their level, whatever their thoughts on the climate might be.
I ride my bike 4-8km a day in Vietnam. It makes me stronger though I read some articles lazy people have more enduring lifespan. But it's a great way to enjoy the mild sun and coolness of winter and lead a more active lifestyle.
Another good video. I'm a big fan of the 5 levels of actions: personal, friends and family pressure, community influence, online contribution, and macro-political action.
Also, this video is 7 years old, over a whole ev generation ago. Likely before the model 3 and Y, bolt, mache E, and all the other more general consumer evs. In the mid 2020s the emphasis is on getting an ev asap.
Thank You from Italy!
Thank you for watching all the way from Italy!
Great style of teaching. Thank you for creating this!
CCL!
Why don't people just take the bus, bike, or walk to school or work instead of driving those big SUVs?
Because reality. Public transport sucks. It's slow, it's uncomfortable, it guarantees you'll get every flu around, and it's inconvenient to travel by fixed schedule to fixed places or entirely impossible to reach the destination by communist transport.
And not everyone enjoys coming to work or elsewhere sweaty or have time to move around at a snail's pace.
Public transportation, for many years in the US, was thought of as travel for those with a lower income.
If more people use public transportation, the service receives more funding for maintenece, frequent schedules, and customer comfortability.
It is a fairly reliable and easy way to travel around cities and a cost effective way to travel between cities when the infrastructure is in place.
As for illness, there are ways a person can combat illness from using public transportation. Wash your hands. Do not touch surfaces with your bare hands. Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow. If you are very concerned at flu season, there are masks one can wear that are very popular in Japan where transit is used highly.
This video was fascinating. I had no idea carbon credits were a thing, and it sounds like an idea that can be adaptable to a lot of corporations outside the air travel industry. I'm curious as to the science behind why white paint helps the environment when living in hot places, though.
Gostei muito! Ótimas dicas! Muito bom!
I am from south east country - Bangladesh. This is very informative and Carbon Calculator is eye opening for me, as to know how much I am adding CO2 in the atmosphere. This I am going to share with the youth in my influencing circle for them to decide and leave a livable climate for them and the next. Thanks.
Unfortunately, lithium used in Tesla batteries and lithium batteries, in general, are extracted by oppressing and sometimes kill the Indigenous population surrounding a lithium mine in Argentina. See Amnesty's recent article on this.
RE: auto light shutoffs -- a company I worked for had those. Lights turned off while I sat still for a few minutes and it would not see me move to turn 'em back on. Um, nice idea, but needs a better implementation.
I want a Tesla next too....and I'm happy to know I've already done all of these except solar panels on my home and the electric car :)
which app you are using to animation?
this is amazing!
Hi dev gadhvi, Thank you! we have an outside animator who creates them for us.
Really nice presentation! Please rethink having a background track tho...that low-level beat. For people with hearing loss, it simply creates an unneeded challenge to clarity. Thanks!
Thank you for your feedback!
one person can investigate the science themselves and make a judgment whether this is all group-think .. there are some science heavyweights who argue exactly that
What do you mean by “LED”?
They're longer lasting, more eco friendly lightbulbs and other lighting sources. Me and my family use them and they're better than your average light bulb!
It won't make a difference until we stop consumerism and materialism. That won't stop until we decide to end capitalism.
This is either/or thinking and is a logical fallacy. What we need is both/and thinking. We can curb our own personal contributions to the problem where we can while also seeking political action / "revolution" in the way you describe. A drop in the bucket is not nothing- it's EXACTLY ONE DROP, no more, no less!
Non sequitur fallacy, and false dichotomy.
What needs to end is statetheism. This crazy idea that people can rule each other's, give permission to a parasite class to Rob and extort us perpetually, and the "legal" FICTIONS called "corporations" that the clergy if this insane religion crates, which absolves humans from responsibility and liability. A sociopathic institution by super-human decree from the god of government, who also happens to be the biggest exploiter, polluter and monopolist promoter of consumerism and perpetual growth there is.
And you try to blame our problems on the one thing that enables people to be free and respects their right to life and property?
I don't think you have the faintest clue what capitalism means.
I invented the first pollution free engine (lots of people helped me)
Nice joke, liar.
Don't fall for this con artist folks. And never buy I to the nonsense that cars can run on water. Any physicist or chemist can tell you it's bullcrap.
don't compare meat with grains is great for effect but not really as an honest comparison. Grains as a source of egg whites is very inefficient, replace 200 grams of meat with grains would be a digestive nightmare.
sure you do this - i invented the Water Powered Engine (see cecil mills channel)
We all can do something-volunteer!
Stop trying to con people asshole.
You claim that you want to help the poor but you also want to charge them more for energy through a carbon tax? They are the ones that are most impacted by expensive energy.
Citizen Climate Lobby that Dr. Hayhoe mentioned, proposes returning all of proceeds right back to households, for families to spend as they wish.
Why not just let them keep the money to spend as they wish? Sounds like tithing to me.
It's not a carbon tax that CCL is advocating, it's Carbon Fee and Dividend, so like Lynn said, families can get money back and it's supposed to help low income families more.
Because left completely to their own devices, low income families will continue to emit CO2 like crazy. Human behavior needs to actually be CHANGED, and it won't change on its own under the current set of government policies. It's naïve to think everyone can just wake up tomorrow and sing kumbaya and choose not to emit excess CO2, while there is an economic system that is constantly driving that you need to emit CO2 or you can't survive. While the more affluent of us CAN and SHOULD do more to curb our emissions, we also NEED to change government policy on emissions or else statistically *all of us* (including the poor AND the affluent) will not reach our goal.
