Based on what I saw in the video, They could have easily cleaned that room with a broom and Swiffer. No need to charge a cleaning fee ..
Or they should have videoed the condition better. They filmed from far away. If there were holes in the walls, or spills staining walls and floors, bathroom cabinets, etc, they did a bad job filming it.
I agree-- although personally, I also would never leave a room in that condition when I was moving out.
I'm a landlord and I would LOVE for a tenant to return a house to me in the condition on the video. They got off easy.
I've left a studio flat cleaner than that, like legitimately clean, and they still kept my deposit claiming it wasn't clean because of some hard water build up around the sink faucet or some such nonsense. People are insane. I didn't have the time to sue them.
@@brocktoon8 some landlord want it to look new and that is just not possible after a certain amount of time.
These slumlords are gouging the tenants because they can. Southern California rents are off tha charts!!
Always have been. Studio apartments in the 70s went for more than that
They really tried to take his whole entire security deposit because the floors just needed to be swept 💀😭😂
Yep. Crazy
They took 170$ plus $150 for late fee, not the whole security deposit
@@tomy4453And $30 for a “returned” check.
@@dinahbrown902very 😂
the male defendant seems like a bully! I don't like his energy.
THAT ROOM FOR $1595?!! My one-bedroom apartment costs $600. What a freaking rip-off!
Most 1 bedroom apartments where I live cost $2500 to $3500 and don't include utilities.
💯💯💯
It said it was in LA. sounds about right for that location.
Wow! $600.00! I recently moved into a two bedroom apartment for $2,800, plus trash fee, water bill, pest control fee, which are not included in the rent, so total monthly bill is close to $3,000 a month.
@@carolr7823 I'd rather pay $2500-$3500 for one bedroom apartment, even without utilities and live by myself then getting ripped off by people like the defentants. The plantiff paid $1595 for one bedroom, a bathroom and shared spaces with strangers. No thank you 😅
Sorry, but that room wasn’t that bad. What schmucks the landlords are.
That video killed him. That place was in good condition
$75 late fee??? That’s ridiculous.
Then don't be late on rent. Simple. 🤷🏿♂️
@@daowonimdee - I don’t rent and haven’t in the past 40 years. I’m just saying $75 is extreme.
When you become a landlord and are late on mortgage multiple times, your house gets repossessed by the bank. So yea, they should charge late fees!
@@mayaarbach1941 Yeah. She doesn't get it.
Not ridiculous at all. That’s actually pretty standard and it’s the same late fee that we charge for our rental property.
That's insane that they TRIED to charge him hundreds of dollars to clean THAT.
I don't think the charge was far-fetched though. Especially if they hired someone to clean it. A company is not going to charge $20 to clean it. It would definitely be over $100. The cheaper option would have been for them to clean it themselves. It wasn't that bad that they couldn't do it.
All it needed was a 2 min sweep 😂🤦♂️
@@nanjones3973 The cleaning charge is super far fetched. I live in a major city where everything is expensive and it cost $140 to get my entire apartment cleaned from a cleaning company...again in a major city. There's no way that cost $140. No way!
Yup, money hungry
There is something about the defendant that is arrogant and smarmy
Special cleaner for the hardwood floors? Yeah it’s called Murphy’s wood cleaner , about $5.95 and up a bottle. GTFOH
I can lend them some 😂
😂😂😂😂💯
I had a landlord take photos of the place while I was in the process of moving out then tried to claim I'd left the place that way. Took them to the tribunal and they had their arses handed to them. I'm always wary about videos like that and this shows another reason why.
This house must have been in a fabulous area to pay 1595 a month for just a room!
It’s in Los Angeles
I really don’t like this male defendant’s energy, attitude, smugness, arrogance, or voice. 😑😑😑
HAHAHAHA! He had to return the security deposit.
I’m so glad I’ve never had an issue with any of my previous landlords. 😅
Ok I was even expecting a bigger room for that amount
3:30 -- Wow...$1600 for a broom closet.
This is petty af
Different guy in the thumbnail!
I was looking for this comment. I was like "who is this guy"?
They uploaded the video with that guy now 😀
@@Sara.Rose. Great - thank you!
I thought I was tripping
This couple are crazy there's nothing wrong with the place.
Someone had some margaritas at lunch while they edited and captioned these videos 🤣
$1500 for a room? Where is this?
Los Angeles
Officer Byrd is cool!😎
Wow! A lot of money for one room, I live in a lovely area in the uk and my mortgage is less for 3 bed 2 bath garage and gardens…..
how can she say on the one hand "you had a month to month" then they pop up with a lease alleging late fees
Rent is due on the day it's due; if you plan to stay another month and pay the rent late, late fees apply. Same as with any other bill payment.
A lease is for an extended period of time. If it's month-to-month, it's only a rental agreement, even if incorrectly tilted as a lease
IN MY VIEW
The video showing how the plaintiff left his room and bathroom justifying $140 cleaning charge made defendants look like fools.
All it needed was to SWEEP and mop the floor and thrown out trash. The bathroom sink looked clean.
The defendant's "Oh, ha-ha-ha, silly me!" act when shown the insufficient address he used, like this was the first moment he realized that he didn't include the house number. He fully intended to mail it in such a way that it would be returned, and did not expect anyone to go to this much trouble over a small amount on principle.
Paying $1600/month for a bedroom is WILD😳
My god it looks like a tornado went through that room you need a team of people to clean up.
😂Right
Why is Mitch McConnell in the thumbnail? 😂
Confused me there, thought it was a different case.
He's stupid for paying $1600 for a room!!! He could've had an entire condo to himself!
Who is in the editing department because we need to go back to the basics
Lol all he needed was a broom and a swiffer with the wood floor cleaning liquid attached 😂
These real estate tycoons kill me 😅
That's a note, READ YOUR LEASE and look for red flags like ridiculous late fees and whatnot to see what your landlord will be like. I had a landlord and I didn't get good vibes from her but we were desperate. She waited until all of our stuff is moved in to present an incredibly one sided contract that said she could kick us out whenever she wanted (ie if she found someone willing to pay more) but we had to stay a year. I signed it because I felt trapped but after three months I saved up enough money to get the hell out of there. She sued, I didn't show up, but I heard she was laughed out of court
If a check was returned to them, all they have to do is rip it up. Charging the Plaintiff a "stop payment fee"($30) is unnecessary. PLUS, the Defendant is the one who wrote the wrong address on the envelope to begin with. The Defendants are the reason Landlords have a bad reputation.
Those home owners charging 1,595 for a room is outrageous.
the fools that are freaked out about $1600 for a one bedroom have clearly never left their hometown. I paid $2600 for a one bedroom apartment in DC. The market dictates the rent prices; especially this location being in LA.
$1595 for one bedroom? I pay $900 on a mortgage for a 2000 sq ft, 3 bed, 2.5 bath house!!! That is INSANE.
Where I am a studio at 700 sq ft runs you $3,000
Yeah where is that and how much did the house cause
@@bregowego Capitalism at work, I tell ya. I mean, if people are willing to pay it, then charge it. I'm happy to pay my $900 and enjoy the peace and privacy of my modestly large home.
@@drew6846 I'm sure it's in some big city -- San Francisco, LA, NYC. I have a friend in DC who pays $2300 for a one-bedroom apartment.
The cleaning charge is super far fetched. I live in a major city where everything is expensive and it cost $140 to get my entire apartment cleaned from a cleaning company...again in a major city. There's no way that cost $140. No way!
I'm having a lean cuisine enchilada tv dinner for lunch.
I'm having leftover cake :(
It looks like the landlords were trying to get a free room remodel out of this guy. They should not be landlords.
I love it when greedy landlords are forced to realize they're not Gods, after all.
I love how the Plaintiff didn’t even look at the video😭😭😭
They wrote something on the mirror like they just got eliminated from Rupaul's Drag Race 😂😂😂
How embarrassing re the envelope address. 😂
The defendant playing dumb about the address…😆🙄🙄
just looking for anything to charge against his security deposit. better sweep that mess up. would take all of five minutes.
These people are outrageous. The man is just awful.
Now that I've seen it here I'm sure this case is going to show up on my TV in 20 minutes
Okay, but who's the man in the thumbnail??? 🤔😂
0:53 just making it up as he goes 😂
So 140$ because they sweeped the floor? 😂😂😂
I don't understand why i had been without employment i help a person my house was paid and they did whatever they want. I am lucky to be alive.
To push a broom- 140 ridiculous!
The plaintiff has too much time on his hands.
I'm way too busy to go chasing $200 in court 😂
The cleaning fee seems a bit high to me. However, if you do that at an air bnb, they hit you with a fee for about that much. Some landlords are like that. Some tenants are, too. It's unfortunate they couldn't come to an agreement and talk it out.
Starbucks wants to interrupt my judge Judy episode to talk about their ridiculous new summer drinks. Don’t support Starbucks. They don’t treat their employees well
Now that the main issues are settled (the $150 in late fees, and the $185 of security deposit that has to be returned), Judy is about to get to the nonsense part of the case.
why is no one talking about the fact the thumbnail is on the wrong video…
The guy paid his rent late in November and January.
Wow that took a complete 360 😮
180* lol. 360 is a full circle.

If he can afford four months rent why is he renting a room? Not judging just curious
Asian lady glaring at JJ when she hands in papers
Wtf does Bird keep looking at …I never liked his energy…lol Judge Judy deserves a #2 like Douglas from Judge Milian !!
I don't get what the lipstick thing was on the bathroom mirror, but I couldn't figure out what was so unusually dirty about that place either. Not based on what was shown.
I get the defendants are bad, but the plaintiff is self-important, passive-aggressive to a judge, and as any good salesman, uses shady language to push self-serving narratives. Month-to-month is not a lease, and he knows it. Some people 😒
Where is this room? Beverly Hills?
I have the feeling that the extra charges are from the male D.
Judge judy i have lo get out of this motel i have no money i dont know where can i go on the street i need an advice.
They just wanted a free trip to Cali.
Cali🤪🤣
California, to most Californians.
Sorry to bust the 420 but its now 421.
I think the defendants deserved at least something for cleaning the small mess. Even $50
PLAINTIFF'S video?
The place is SPOTLESS!!!
The Thumbnail guy is from another video. 😂
