  • Salida, Colorado is a great weekend getaway from just about anywhere on Colorado's Front Range. Just two and a half hours from Denver, all the hustle and bustle is quickly left far behind, replaced with natural beauty, a small town feel and all the reasons we love Colorado.

Learning to Travel is a travel video & social media company formed by Joyce & Daryle Dickens to help others identify and realize their dreams of “traveling more”. After years of “traveling more” talk with too little action, we finally went all-in on a life-changing 14-month journey to 23 countries and 23 US states. Since then, we’ve heard far too many people say “I wish I could do that” which has made us realize that most people need a little push to believe their travel dreams are possible and a little guidance to turn those dreams into reality. That inspiration and guidance is what LearningToTravel.com is all about.

Have enjoyed Salida on many ocassions. Especially lazy, long, lunches at the Boathouse Cantina after some time in the Collegiates backpacking and fly fishing.

There is just so much to do in that area so Salida is always a great place to relax in the evening after spending the day playing in the Rockies.

You guys do such a great job with your videos! It's nice to see the drone shots. This looks like a cool place worth the visit. We agree that it's cool to see old building like the abandoned limestone factory. Kind of crazy that nothing happens with the property though, after all that time!

It really is interesting how relics like that can sit for so long. That site is unique because it is so accessible.

How is it during mid December? Is the weather too brutal for a fun weekend vacation?

Good question. We have never been in mid-December, so we can not really answer. Maybe get in touch with the Visit Salida folks.

Hi Joyce & Daryle! My first language was Spanish and Salida (the "i" pronounced actually as "e") means "exit", there must be a story behind that name... great video, it is now on my list of places to visit in CO 😊

The story goes that it was given that name because it is the exit to the Arkansas River canyon. The town's original name was South Arkansas. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙂

yes, that is how it is pronounced in Spanish; but in Colorado everyone decided to officially mispronounce it

The Spaniards built the Railroad not the Mexican people. Salida in Spain means ladies of the Evening named after the ladies who followed the Spanish men through the canyon when they built the Railroad. The red light ladies. Most people here prefer to call it exit but that's not really true. 😊
