- At least three people were killed by trees that fell during severe weather in California, where torrential rain and flooding continue. Some 33 million people were under flood alerts. Firefighters rescued at least 16 people caught in mudslides in Los Angeles. Some areas in Southern California have received seven to 10 inches of rain, with an additional three to five inches possible. NBC News’ Liz Kreutz reports.

It's much needed weather for California.
What non-Californians need to understand is that these weather events are exacerbated by a thoroughly incompetent utility company called PG&E. Though unusual, this storm is by no means out of the norm. We have a utility that is not able to provide generation, transmission and service In the natural environment of this state. When will its operating license be pulled?
Folks need to write strongly to their political representatives, NOW.

Due to abnormal ocean heating, rainfall and floods are rapidly increasing. They have become atypically strong and destructive. And the more the ocean heats up, the more water will evaporate from its surface and, as a consequence, the number of floods, storms and hurricanes will increase.
Between 1970 and 1979, there were 260 major floods. And from 2014 to 2023 there have already been more than 1,500 (!) major floods. That's a difference of more than 6 times.
Climate change is real. Part of the flooding problem is also urbanization and replacing earth with concrete, tho.
Yet the worst known flood in that area happened a long time ago..... So, what caused far worse flooding to occur in 1861-1862 when they got this for 45 days strait? Or in 1850? Or in 1825 when the LA river moved drastically? Prior to that people didn't really live there, and you can bet it flooded there than too, massively.... Yes, the sky is falling, just ask any global warming nut about it........... The difference is what was reported, and the lack of water management when building up the area that made it far worse..... Ask anyone that was there in the past, if this is worse..... It isn't.........

Very little here in North Hollywood. I thought it was just normal rain when I had friends from out of state calling me asking if I was ok. I wasn't even aware it was that bad elsewhere in California. (I never watch the news).

I moved to Anaheim from Northern California, this is LIGHT compared to what we get up north.
They could have prepared with flood mitigation and measures to collect water for the inevitable dryer seasons. Instead California built a stupid train to nowhere.

These reporters always go to the same spot and film making it appear it's this bad ALL over, its not. Many people built their homes on dirt and not a solid foundation of rock. California has not taken great care of repairs of infrastructures and the pandemic halted much needed repairs. But when you build/live on dirt mountains or near the sea...the rain will not be nice to you.
Every News network needs the views. of course, you'll see the same area just didn't networks sending their reporters out there.
