I don’t know if this will work, but I’m glad someone is doing something. I very much admire people who will come up with solutions.
I vote for smaller houses (1000 sq ft), a bit more densely placed, in small neighborhoods. Like the old bungalows.
I would love to see smaller homes with a smaller footprint. Single people, single parents, retirees, or anyone with a lower income could conceivably own a small home and live in a like neighborhood. And actually be able to afford it. We don’t need McMansions for everyone, with huge yards. It would be nice to see more home ownership, not all of the rentals. People take better care of their own homes.

Unfortunately, this housing will not be as "affordable" as it could be ... because ... it is being built with the same faulty assumptions as all of our cities, towns, and housing developments - it is dependent on cars. If you want housing to be affordable, you need first to plan your development in a way so that all of the owners, renters, and occupants can go to work, school, shopping, and access medical care without a car: utilizing close proximity design for walking, high-rise development with elevators, and the light rail system within walking distance. Housing should also be built recognizing the fact that "people don't want to go to the park, people want to live in the park."

Increasing affordable housing stock benefits everyone. Also, many veterans have directly benefitted from Habitat for Humanity projects

Don't ya hate do gooders, and it's never anywhere close to their neighborhood. Always getting things free is not an incentive to improve, then you lose the freebies.

awesome idea! Did you know that the Swede Hollow and Bohemian Flats neighborhoods were named because of the overwhelming prevalence of non-English speaking immigrants? The majority of Minnesotans didn't speak English at home in the 19th century. German is the 5th most common language other than English spoken by Minnesotans. Immigrant communities have LOOOOONG history in Minnesota, bringing language, cultural traditions, foods, and music!

As long as they go to legal citizens, I'm all for this. If even one goes to an illegal immigrant, the program needs to be overhauled.

We don't need no stinking papers! Even Ronald Reagan didn't believe in a 2nd class citizen system. He granted amnesty. We have 81 thousand people in Minnesota with out papers and a half million 1st generation im a grints. We are the 8th safest and wealthiest State. We still have almost 200 thousand job openings. Out of our workforce of 2.7 million, 300 thousand are 1st generation. Peddle your soft soap
