Amazing work on those AEs. Personally i prefer a spongy mid to stiff filler instead of the cork due to its longer lifespan. Then a 5mm leather midsole and a 3 mm rubber half outsole with a rubber layer on the heel stack as well. 360 goodyear stitching only on the welt and the midsole so that the half outsole can be easily changed without having to remove the heel stack and do stitching all over again.

Really beautiful job!! I got a pair of those 100th Anniversary Strands, too. I like mine, but the upgrades you have added to these are really fine, indeed! Bravo!
I also appreciate your comments on the cork issue with Allen Edmonds. I got a pair of Allen Edmonds Stanfords a year or so ago and just could not wear them. Every time I put them on my feet and walked on them my feet began hurting within five minutes. They felt like the bottom of the shoes had rocks in them or something. I can imagine they had very uneven and wavy cork in them. I just could not wear them, so got rid of them.

Another pair of shoes that left your shop better than new.

Great work. Love the sole. You need to resole some AE MacNeils.

It always makes me cringe to see you or any of the other shoe cobblers I watch on YT (like Steve from Bedo's or Trenton and Heath) take apart a brand new shoe like that. I've never owned a pair of Allen Edmonds (or any higher-end dress shoes for that matter), so perhaps I should see if I can afford to buy a pair of this style.
This video actually got me to thinking about something: what kinds of sole leather do you have besides JR that are of a similar quality? I know Trenton and Heath sometimes use Gerberei and Baker. What about Garat or Toscana Super Prime?

If you happen to find a second hand pair that you really like with the upper in pristine condition and the outsole worn out then bargain the price and get it properly resoled. You will have a shoe worthing twice its original price. The factory soles and getting worse each year is couldn’t believe the sole quality of AE when i got my first pair. Fortunately they were a bargain on ebay.
