I processed my first deer after binge watching all of your videos over a day. I'm about to do the neck, before finishing the trim and grinding. THANK YOU for this wonderful resource!!
Your dad has taught me a lot about deer processing, just by watching him go through step by step. I saved all of the processing videos in my deer processing playlist on here. If you ever decide to take them down, would you consider offering them on disk or thumb drive? This series will be playing in my garage while I process my next deer. Semper Fi!
Thank you so much for this comment. I don't have any reason to take these down so no issues there. Let me know how it goes when you get that next deer! KPO
WOW! I've been butchering my own for years but always struggled with the neck. I just learned more in under six minutes than many years of trial and much error on my own!
Hi Dave, I just wanted to thank you and Don for this great 6 part series. It is very generous of you both to share your knowledge in this clear and useful video. I thought Don's presentation was the best I have ever seen on the subject. The attention to detail and cleanliness as well as the the well thought-out professional process was very inspiring and motivating. Thankyou! -Ray (adkbuck)
adkbuck, I'm going to be eating dinner at my Dad's house today. I'm definitely going to show him your comment. He really does enjoy showing people how to process deer. Thanks KPO
Your dad is very informative in these videos! Although I do things a little differently, I learn a lot from him. There's nothing wrong with learning new ways! What I like to do with my neck meat is either use it for hamburger like you do or for sausage. I do, however, keep the neck and boil the bones to make venison soup. The neck is one of the best set of bones to use for soup. Very few people I know waste their time with boiling the bones but the end product is so good. It's one of the few things I can get my kids to eat off the deer is my venison soup!
I usually bag does, so the neck is not very large. But, if I haven't shot into the neck, I like using the neck meat for jerky and/or grind meat. My Dad taught me to try to use as much of the deer as possible and within reason. Don't waste time on anything bloodshot or has bone fragments in it.
This is the first video I've watched.... really nicely done! I struggled my way through with the rest, but next deer, I'll have the series lined up at the end of the table. I'll be watching them all soon. Second deer I've done and I still have a doe tag, so I'm sure I will put the tag and videos to use. You're blessed to have cool stuff like this to do with your pop.
Thank you sir, miss the days of going to the neighborhood meat store to see my grandpa working as a butcher. Bloody apron and that distinct aroma fresh meat. I still have the commercial grinder from that mom and pop store. It doesn't get used much as I prefer to can my free range food.
Hi, I looked per Your Suggestion, foe Your Dad’s meat-hook that he used during the deer 🦌 trimming videos. What is the Actual name of that meat- hook product please ??? The Lehmans.com did not find anything for me when I searched for a “ meat-hook ? “ Thanks for Your help and Merry Christmas 🙏🏻
We like to grind the neck into burger or make roasts. Here is a link to the roast vid we did. LINK czcams.com/video/k1xZvhxbzEY/video.html Also check out the entire deer processing playlist at my channel czcams.com/play/PLksX0m4wrQHwY8aepuTO-dGE51MvZIabD.html
The silver isn't an issue if you make a neck roast or put it in a grinder for burger. These are really the only two things I would do with the neck. This ISN'T the cut to use for steaks. For the complete run down of what parts of the deer are good for what check out my other deer processing videos Parts 1 thru 5 also. Thanks for watching. KPO
Knetters Practical Outdoors my grinder isn't that good I guess ..it has a very hard time grinding it ...and ive never been able to cook it tender enough to eat....
Jon, if someone in my family or myself gets a deer this season I plan on doing a video on grinding burger. Couple of thoughts for now would be smaller grinders do need to have the chunks of venison cut pretty small before they go in the grinder. Neck roasts done in a crock pot or slow cooker are excellent if done right. Be sure to check out my Front Shoulder video. My dad shows a great way to make a roast and even how to cook it. You won't be disappointed. Thanks again. KPO
When he makes it look that easy, you know it shouldn’t be this hard. Appreciate y’all. Thank you.
You are welcome.
Your dad is a processing machine! So satisfying watching him cut it up. Learned a lot, hard to beat old school knowledge.
Thanks a lot for that comment. My dad appreciates it, KPO.
Your dad is truly the man. Great skills and knowledge 👌.
Probably the best series on "butchering" a deer I've seen. Easy to understand and learn from. Truly practical and useful. Watch all six!

I'm ready to get into it too. Thanks for the support KatYaks, KPO.
Great job, great video. Thank you for your video in teaching this for those who like to learn how to process their own deer. I appreciate it.

Excellent job Gents
Thanks for the comment, KPO.
Thank you!
Best butchering series on youtube.
Kyle, thanks for that comment. My dad will love hearing it. Thanks for watching, KPO
Awesome series. Learned so much! Much appreciated. Could you please do another video on how you wrap and prep cuts the for freezer.
Rohni, yes we should do a vid on packaging up the deer. We'll see if we can make that work. Thanks for watching, KPO.
Your dad literally looks like what I see when I picture in my head what a butcher/meat cutter looks like lol
yes
Enjoyed again as I’m making a venison shoulder roast
nice
My grandpa pulled a jeep out of the ditch with that neck cord tied to his pickup. Very tough indeed😉
Yes sir, thanks for adding in. KPO.
Let me tell you about the neck part. If you ever cook it in an okra soup, it’s an amazing taste 2nd to an Oxtail in Okra .
We usually grind into burger and sometimes make a roast, KPO.
Hello ! Enjoyed the Series ..... thank You ! Where can I purchase a “ meat hook “ like the one used in this video please? Merry Christmas 🎄
Lehmans.com or actually at Walmart online.
Thanks
You are welcome, KPO.

Maybe Lehmans doesn't sell them anymore. I thought they did at one time. Try Walmart Online, KPO.
So was that a grind pile that you threw that piece of meat from the neck or is it too tough

Am I the only one that cooks and ears neck bones? Is that just a southern thing?
There's a LOT of fat and tendon left in there. You don't trim that up?
Not so much when it's going to roasts
So don't worry to much about the silver...?
