Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

Stottlemeyer after Monk says Miles was murdered: “Honey, I’m going to strangle Monk and get back to you okay?” 😂
*my favourite line in the episode*
IKR?!?! I was so upset they left that part out 😭😭
Same!! That’s such a great line!!
I remember this episode the best scene was the odd couple scenario where Monk and Stottlemeyer had to live together and when he couldn't take anymore he yelled out "I am going to have the church declared your wife a Saint cause you can repair every man's marriage all they have to do is live with you and no matter what they will apologize to their wives"
This is one of favourite episodes of Monk mainly the sub plot of Stottlemeyer and Monk having to live together.
Yeah and when Stottlemeyer wanted to nominate Trudy for a Saint cause he thought living with Monk was impossible Imao
the whole monk stottlemeyer roommates was hysterical.i read or heard an interview that Ted Levine thought that whole staying with monk was funny as well .
@@weirdboipete9904and he for the first time solved the mystery before Monk
I never understood why he was afraid of them finding out. When the old man would have added something to the capsule, would they have read the letters out loud? Or was it just irrational paranoia?
Well thare are several reasons why !! one of the reasons is that what if he made his children help cover up the muder!! Then he has plenty of motive to not want people to find out because his children will be in jail to as accessories after the fact!!! Also what Mafiaif he terned to the maffa or some other tipe of organization to help cover up the crime. The type of organization that will likely have you wacked or worse for having to confess thare crimes to the authorities.
@@nicolasihmels6703I think you missed OP’s point. They were going to dig up the capsule to add the old man’s note to it. But there’s no reason to think they would have opened and read the other letters in there at that time, just added the extra one and reburied it.
Irrational paranoia. It's like the tell tale heart. The guilt was eating away at him so much he couldn't think properly anymore.
@@godlyBladeat that point he should have just confessed. What did he even have to gain by hiding his crime if it was eating at his conscience
Mostly that. These kinds of shows and stories have to fudge up some of the details a bit. That said, people have killed for less, criminals never make a whole lot of sense.
"1998, 5 years ago"
instantly I crumble to dust
CZcams started with people posting clips of tv shows and movies they like , then the companies would copyright strike them. Now that those same companies realized how much people wanted to watch clips of their shows and how much money they make , they post clips of them themselves lol
In hopes you’ll buy the dvd or subscribe to streaming. But they don’t want you to watch it all for free…unless they get paid
I think my favorite part of this episode is when we find out at the end why Monk always tilted the table at that angle. I always love the Trudy flashbacks.
Just a friendly reminder that none of this was necessary. all that would have happen was that they would be adding something to the time capsule. No mention of reading anything or even opening anything.
he could have litterly done nothing and avoided all of this.
He could have not written a confession period. Guy was obviously not thinking straight
Felt so awful about accidentally killing one person...he intentionally killed two more?...on the off chance that instead of just adding a letter, that they would all be read as well?
in fairness, paranoia is a powerful thing, especially when the thing you're paranoid about is murder lol
I always knew Woody from Psych was up to no good!
Especially when he came into Henry Spencer's hospital room twice with a body bag, thinking he needed to perform an autopsy. (lol) (Psych, Season 7, Episode 1: Santabarbaratown 2)
Not to mention he had a group of Paranormal Investigators committed, in the hopes they won't ruin the New York Mayor's run for Governor. But he ended up allowing ghosts run amok.
@@brennensanchez7692hold up!? They're played by the same actor!?
@@elimDBZ Yep. Good old Kurt Fuller.
7:13 He really doesn't want that time capsule dug up, does he?
lmao instead of doing all that bro could've just dug up the time capsule himself it's not like they were keeping guard over it
This
good point
Also, why would they read his confession?
It wasn't a 5 year time capsule... those letters were probably not gonna be taken out
@TheMijman if you had watched the episode, the boss said on video that if the oldest man living in the world turns another year old they dig up the time capsule and read letters that the employees had written.
@@impossibleboy162 no, the letters were specifically written "for future generations". The only reason they were going to open the time capsule again was to drop in a new chapter of the oldest man's autobiography. I doubt they'd then read through 50 letters that weren't written for that event.
Throughout the whole episode he played the cynical, trying to convince the mayor not to authorize the exhumation of the elderly for autopsy and not to dig up the time capsule.
After finally reading his letter of confession, he plays the poor guy while admitting the crime, trying to justify himself, all this after having already killed two more people.
Lol Monk "You could stay with me" Captain "You sure about this?" Oh yeah totally, later scene, Captain is vacuuming and unplugs it, then Monk turns it on "Monk I am trying to help out here" You but you did it different then me" "you are impossible to live with, I don't care what Karen says, I am begging her to let me back into the house" Monk "But you cant until you see her movie
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I can't believe I never thought of this before, but why didn't he just dig up the time capsule and remove the letter himself?
Well, even at night, people would notice someone digging a hole right in the middle of town.
Are you trying to ruin the plot? 😎
Normally, Time Capsules are buried at least 18 meters below the surface. That's not something you can just dig up with a shovel in one night. Much less without being noticed, or caught by street cams. Much, much less without any of the 7.7 million people living in the area across the following several weeks noticing "Hey, this spot with the Time Capsule is full of freshly-dug dirt! I wonder if someone dug it up to steal it and filled the hole?"
@@LittleZbot Alright, I get it. I'm an idiot for even mentioning it.
Even if someone noticed the spot later it wouldnt matter. Once he got the letter out and destroyed it theres no evidence against him. He could make up any lie. Worst case he gets in trouble for the unauthorized digging. I'm only replying to that portion of ur comment because it's the only part I feel is inaccurate. @LittleZbot
In Monk's living room, they made sure to arrange the boxes, the vases and the table so that they would be straight. But they forgot the cord of the lamp. This thing is a mess, Monk couldn't have stand it
Did the Mayor's office move? In the garbage strike episode it showed the town hall in a bigger building in a more "downtown part"
Everything is located in _Vinton St_
The urge to confess is a cop's best friend...
May every old actor finally rest in peace 😔
World's oldest man dies, but was it murder?
Shows old man getting suffocated
Yes but that's the thing monk has to figure out obviously
i know, right? i mean, hello, spoiler alert! amirite?
Some of the plots are quite far fetch as the murderer cover up some small crime with a murder, this one he commited 2 murders to cover up 1 manslaughter
It's not all that far fetched really. Just watch some true crime documentaries. People commit worst crimes to cover up minor ones all the time. Some have committed murders just to cover up fraud, embezzlement, theft, an affair (which isn't even a crime), car accidents, etc. It's ridiculous how far some people will go just to escape responsibility.
@@Darkest2Knight Not to mention when people run from the police due to a tail light being out which would of been just a warning, and instead get a year in jail or more.
People do stupid stuff for no reason.
Why is that one actor always playing an idiot working for a mayor? XD

Frozen ground in San Francisco ??? I don't think so.
RIP Glenne Headley.
the ground frozen in SF?? Don't make me laugh!
At least this villain had a conscience.
But he still killed two more people to avoid consequences. Conscience is cheap without consequences.
@@CrystalblueMage Good point.
RIP Glenne Headly
i knew it over the phone. you know shes probaly dancing around her place right now. but i mean being with a captain of a police force of course shes gonna pick up some info and tips
I only see that lawyer as Zachariah from Supernatural.
Why the killer wrote that confession? And why put it in the burial?
It's a time capsule, genius. It wasn't supposed to be read for 100 years, when he'd be dead.
He wrote the confession letter to unburden his conscience. The time capsule was going to be open only if the oldest man lived to 103, beating the previous record for oldest living person. That birthday was coming up soon. He had assumed the old man would have died long before so his letter should have been safe.

It's been 5 years, why's the ground so wet? 😭
It rained
It's San Francisco, a coastal city. Guess what falls out of the sky a lot.
Wow, chilling plot

I never knew what the groundskeeper meant about “the Earth not wanting the dead kid”? Did that mean he was a bad kid or something else?
He meant the earth as in ground. He shouldn't have died this young and even the ground seemed to agree, as it was frozen solid and therefore hard to dig up.
