As matter naturally moves from areas of high pressure to low pressure, utilizing the pressurized state of the refrigeration system and its compressor aids in this process. By connecting a depressurized refrigerant container, the refrigerant flows from the higher-pressure system to the lower-pressure container, facilitating recovery. Passive recovery is suitable for appliances with 15 lbs or less of refrigerant, such as household refrigerators, falling under Type I classification.
2. Self-Contained Recovery:
Self-Contained Recovery, or active recovery, involves utilizing a recovery device independent of the system being serviced. Equipped with its own compressor, pump, or other mechanisms, it efficiently reclaims refrigerant. It's crucial to identify the refrigerant type before recovery, especially with older refrigerators predating 1950, which might contain non-fluorocarbon refrigerants. Active recovery outpaces passive methods, reducing the risk of venting and minimizing recovery time. It's mandatory for systems containing over 15 lbs of refrigerant
