    No way they really bought those cans and jars of syrup. That stuff can be bought in 5 gallons (20 liter in U.K.) and in large drums, which would be cheaper and easier to fill the pool.
    I would like to have see this done in a long rectangular pool, though this was fun to watch. The results would be similar, but there is obviously a lot of drag from the sideways motion. Straight line forward motion give better visual results and data comparison.

    Actually, the rule of swimming faster in syrup is true in syrup as in melted sugar, and not maple syrup like this.

    They were shown emptying golden syrup (partially inverted sugar syrup) into the pool but pool itself was filled with something far, far less viscous. Even the colour was clearly different from the golden syrup they were pouring in from the cans.
    Oh and that was crawling through water and “syrup” not swimming.
