Agree 100% What burns my back side is that canoeists are allowed to do it legally. What aren’t jet boaters? What’s the difference? Are canoeists not putting there own lives at risk and the lives of potential rescuers?? So why is it illegal for a jet boat but not a canoe or raft etc
Hey congrats! A fabulous effort. I was just the second person to paddle Nevis Bluff in a kayak back in 1992 so I can appreciate the nerve it takes to do this. Great job!
Now that bloke knows how to read a river and handle a boat. now we need a givealittle page to handle the fine. Queenstown district council, get yer hand off it.
Congratulations never thought I would see it done. My young boy run it at 15 a few years back making him the youngest at the time. Both my boys have run it many times at varying flows summer and winter and are very impressed to see it finally knocked off by a jet boat.
There are 3 types of people...... People who wonder what happened, people who watch things happen, and people who MAKE things happen. This guy is definitely in the 3rd category.
Jesus! Tim, what an incredible run. That takes serious nerve, skill and control, and you aced it! I’d happily chip in to pay your fine. And I agree about the 5kt faster than the river flow, you certainly weren’t going fast. That man deserves a DB.
Pretty obvious from Tim's control and deliberate changes in direction that he planned every move on this 1st (jet boat) descent, and that he understands how to read a raging river. Is it more reckless than a kayaker running Nevis Bluff? Maybe, but only because if he had swamped the boat it would have ended up a wreck somewhere down the river, and would probably be difficult to recover. Other than that, what an epic achievement. I'm glad the fine was near the bottom end of the scale, he clearly took all necessary precautions to ensure he was the only one at risk. Well done.
It would have cost far more to meet all the silly council safety requirements if he had approached them - thousands of orange road cones, traffic management, and obtaining numerous reports.
@@scottclark1975 There was a Gopro on the boat, first wave meant it did the whole trip pointing at the sky, also went into timelapse mode, so nothing worth seeing
@@PaulMcBreen ah true mate. Yeah Ive had that happen before on my dirt bikes. Awesome Footage all the same from the drone. Ive done some grade 5 rapids in rafts and canoes ( pull the boat out on a grade 6 )and its hell scary coming into that big water. Awesome to see
there's plenty out there, I didn't do any filming of it this year. Have a look at facebook.com/watch/146130148797230/552930099340497 all the video's are there
@@PaulMcBreen another trip down that rapid..... Just to get a vid from that perspective????. That'd be sic as. And I'd pay the mans fine just to go for a ride in the passenger seat, lol.
I would be really impressed after going down you went in reverse go back up,might need a more powerfull drive unit but the fine would be worth the kudos

Worth every penny of the $1500, great video and an awesome effort! Respect!

@@ttv8ra23 is it generally legal for both boaters and kayakers in other places? Seems like a pretty good idea to me for it to be one or the other
@@L1ama yeah both generally. Just gotta be vigilant.

thanks to the NZHerald for bringing me here - sick!
That was worth every cent of the $1500 fee he paid. Well done!

About sums it up
Great work! I riverboarded this in 2009/10 and it’s a full-on rapid! You styled it! 💪💪💪

Frikken awesome. I think this is in the top three jet boating videos.
Praise from on high 🙂
Holy mother of hell , nuts of steel. Well done .
haahaa, yep pretty much the standard reaction to it

$1500 of fun you will never experience again. You deserve more than a DB.
Balls of steel that man, good effort.
Yes mate, seeing sick shit like this when I was younger is why I moved to NZ. Shame it's turned into a nanny state now though
It would have cost far more to meet all the silly council safety requirements if he had approached them - thousands of orange road cones, traffic management, and obtaining numerous reports.
Give that man a medal, good to see a real man in action.
Bloody legend mate, unreal!
That's what you call living
Incredible - that's the ride of a lifetime, great stuff!
Bloody top effort mate definitely worth the fine in my eyes 💪💪
Nice one Tim... What a legend.
Top show mate...love yer work!

Yehaaa! Fuken go boi!!. What a buzz that would've been!

Awesome bro great control
Those shifts in angular momentum, crazy.
Congratulations that's some skill there

Thats Epic! I don't need any deterrent looking at that flow. 😅
Beast mode!

The first cell phone angle is better than the drone at revealing elevation differentials.
yep, I can't fly a drone and run a video camera at the same time unfortunately
