- Daniel Kaluuya joins British GQ as he revisits some of the most notable TV & Film characters in his career so far: from playing Hobie Brown (Spider-Punk) in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ to his role as Bing in Fifteen Million Merits of Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror.’
“For me it was realising that it’s not an impersonation, it’s an interpretation. I’m not him, and that’s okay,” the British actor explains of his role as Fred Hampton in ‘Judas and the Black Messiah.’ “It’s [about] embodying what he represents - how does he make me feel when watching him? And how do I make others feel like that?” Watch the full episode of British GQ’s Iconic Characters, as Daniel Kaluuya breaks down his most iconic roles in TV & Film.

No way you guys didnt include Chris Washington (Get out) and Wakabi (Black panther). Lol
This tbh.
Literally the roles that launched him into fame
The roles that white people just want him to talk about repeatedly
Funny how they leave out two of his most iconic roles in a video talking about your post iconic roles.
That was a smaller role though.
For the people upset about Nope, Black Panther, and Get Out not being talked about, i feel you. However; this was a British GQ interview so they clearly emphasized his work in the UK/with UK filmmakers mainly, minus a couple. I also would've loved those discussions.
Just seems so weird to leave out so many of these other ones he's more known for but keep in the Spiderverse one. I haven't even heard of half the movies/shows referenced.
Shaka King is an American film director.
That makes no sense, it's not his "most iconic roles" 😂
it's to promote the kitchen by talking through his thematically linked work. it's just the clickbait title that's misleading
I'm British. And your comment makes no sense. He was a bit part actor until Get Out, and that role and performance was huge. Its omission here must be due to legal reasons.
That's why Skins was so good... They let the actual teenagers write for their characters. Brilliant from Daniel.
so proud of Posh Kenneth
Me too
Black mirror was the first time I saw him and I immediately thought that this man is a star. I will support him always
Many probably know him from Skins but Doctor Who was my first time seeing him. Then when I saw BM, I recognised him from that. Doctor Who has a bit of a track record of featuring actors before they hit really big.
Me too. I'm always right about who will make it big. Colin Farrell was another, after I watched him in Ballykissangel.
what a legend this guy is - bit gutted there was no talk of Black Panther or Get Out though
"You don't have to be miserable to be serious."
im so happy to hear his role in skins being mentioned! this is where i first discovered daniel
He is SO brilliant in Widows
one of the greatest British actors of all time breaking down barriers and biased assumptions for all of us in the UK - hope to see him in many more films / series for years to come
daniel's hobie was so authentic it's unreal.
Kudos to whoever did the lighting for this. He's glowing
One of the best actors working today, even just watching him talk about his work is INSTANTLY magnetic and engaging. Loved the "Fades" drop in there too, great series that was well ahead of it's time and Kaluuya was EXCELLENT in it
unless you're a lesser white actor loool
Honestly, my favourite actor working right now! He plays every character with such authenticity and humanity, its amazing.
The preparation for all these roles is where the work is. I truly respect his preparation for these characters
I never thought I'd hear a reference to The Fades in 2024. First time I saw Kaluuya and knew he was going to be great.
This guy is so dedicated to his craft, such an amazing actor. Always look forward to his roles
Man when you actually watched Skins during that time then watch him in Get Out you feel so proud. I also I always get to chuckle when people are like wow didn't know he was British.
Who else remembers him in Johnny English??
thats the first thing ive evr seen him in its crazy how much different his career is now
@@Izzy-co8hs yes 👏
Just about 😂 pretty forgettable film
One of the most underrated actor's we have!!! Definitely one of my favorites, You know he's going too bring his all everytime.still haven't seen anything i haven't liked from him yet.Kuddos❤
He is not underrated after winning an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Bafta award.
Black mirror and Get Out were GOLD !!
Love, love Daniel! What an absolute talent!
No I grew up with Fred Hamotons voice in my house regularly and his portrayal of him gave me chills
I can understand not including his work on Black Panther and Nope, but y'all didn't have him talk about Get Out? For real? That role is what helped solidify him as a household name. Chris Washington is an amazing horror protag and he did such an amazing job with a role that a lot of other actors would've struggled with. Especially the upside down scene with the single tear. Flawless.
I was gonna say, are we REALLY NOT gonna talk about "GET OUT"? Like, he literally wouldn't be here without that film. But this is "BRITISH GQ".
daniel is so well-spoken and you can tell his outlook on life and to his work is through a genuine lens. he's truly an artist and i'll continue to support him in all his future endeavors!
I had to skip to the Skins section first before going back and hearing about the other roles lol
i watched spiderverse for the first time yesterday, and i loved his performance. i instantly knew it was daniel because he has such a voice that i can just instantly identify it. hobie was so iconic
Surely Get out and Nope were needed??
just came here to say KING!!! always exciting to watch what he does, been watching since Get Out
Love him soo much!! Such a talent!!
Love this actor, great to hear his thoughts.
I could watch him talk about Skins for the rest of my life
Same
my man Hobie
THIS MAN... 🙏😭
IM SO HAPPY POSH KENNITH WAS ADDED
Legend!!!
JUSTICE FOR PARKING PATAWEYO MY BELOVED!!!
Fab actor. Respect
Can't believe he is the actor from black mirror! I think about that episode sooo often!
Yessss !
I am soooo upset they didn't go through Queen and Slim! I wanted to hear what it was like working with Lena Waithe and Melina Matsoukas 🙃
how does this video not have more views
This man is a true artist.
The Unsung Hero of Johnny English Reborn! Tucker is underrated yet so good. 😎😎
Sicario...Get Out...Queen & Slim. So many omissions of great films he's been in!
Yes!
Listen to what he’s saying. These are the roles, the art, the stories he’s proud of that don’t get as much attention. Instead of complaining, listen to the man.
One of the best actors
Black Panther, Get Out, Sicario, Nope?
Widows
No need for me to bother watching this…
@@Iggystar71Pure ignorance 😂
AWESOME
Judas and the Black Messiah is one of my favorite Daniel Kaluuya films. Him and Lakeith Stanfield absolutley excelled at their preformances.
Still can't believe it's Kenneth. He had a major glow up.
how were GET OUT and NOPE not mentioned........................
I really loved him in Psychoville, he was amazing in that!
Great actor
No mention of Johnny English Reborn and getting to work with Rowan Atkinson. 😭 For me that was the role that made me discover him.
You don’t have to be miserable to be serious! Yes!
His accent is so 🥰🥰i didn't know he had one until a few years ago. Kine Gaty Oldman , Christian Bale and others
Everyone has an accent.
If they remake They Live or The Thing they neeed to cast him for Keith David’s role. His voice has a powerful way about it that reminds me so much of Keith David, who is underrated as heck
Posh kenneth was my fav!
I KNEW after his episode of Black Mirror he was going to be a star. I was like “yo, this dude is really going for it”.
Jesus. I remember him in Skins. That show was sick back int day
It’s Spider-Punk!
Gonna be a few quotes from him included in Dave’s next album 😂
The Fades has never left my brain.
I haven’t watched this yet, but he better have talked about Johnny English Reborn.
Sadly, no.
North London Legend
as much as i would have loved to hear about get out i’m just glad there was no posh kenneth erasure
Someone find me that jacket. That thing is fresh.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Noooo how could they not talk about Johnny English?? 😢😢
that’s what i was thinking! it was the first thing i ever watched him in
@@sithemper0r864 ❤️❤️
Everyone upset about Get Out and BP, I was waiting for Queen & Slim and Sicario.
Posh Kenneth was great. Loved Skins.
I’m guessing you didn’t have much time to interview him because there was so much more from his career so far you could have asked about.
No Tucker from Johnny English?
Was hoping he’d get to his character on Nope
They know to mention skins🤣, that was the first time I saw this brudda.
Man , Daniel was so fine in Judas 😮💨😤! He did a great job too but 😮💨😮💨😮💨!
wanted to see Queen and Slim, still amazing tho
Doctor who in the planet of the dead? That was an iconic role. And Johnny English reborn
This is great, bit weird in terms of omissions tho lol
This guy was different as Fred Hampton. No one could have done it better.
0:08 1:19 3:44 7:02 12:49 😮😮 (i.e., OMG & WOW #DanielKaluuya #Bravo)

DADDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
i'd be less mad about get out being left out if it hadn't been in the thumbnail
Hold on for a second. Without Get Out and Black Panther, your roles may not have been recognized. honorable mention Queen and Slim and Nope.
For me he will always be Posh Kenneth 😂❤
Get Out was such a pivotal moment in his career, curious not to include it…
❤
You left out his best ish 😂
I'm pretty sure that Chris from Get Out would be at least one of his most iconic characters.
How you not gonna talk about Parking Pataweyo?
Shame he's never broken down his iconic cameo in the Mitchell & Webb Speedo sketch.
Can't believe they didn't include Parking Pataweyo!
Lisa speaks highly of you Daniel your a cool dude my guy !
i feel like black mirror episode was motivated by 1984 by george orwell
Wow
Very intelligent geezer.
what about 2017's Get Out?
