  • In the Volkswagen Passat and in the Audi A4 and A6, as well as in other models of the VAG group, it is necessary to put the "PORTACIERRE PLATE", as the workshop manual calls it, "THE FRONT" so that we all understand each other, to make a large number of maintenance and repair operations, such as; change of service belts, timing belt, change of power steering pump, air conditioner compressor, alternator or pulley, tensioner of service belts, etc., etc. This service position avoids having to disassemble the complete front, which would entail draining the coolant along with other disassembly operations that need to invest a lot of time.
The service position is no more than moving the front about 15 centimeters forward to be able to have more space and access to all the aforementioned elements.
This video shows step by step how to put "the closure plate" (the front) in that service position. For this, it is also necessary to have the latest VAG group number "3411". This tool is carillo (approximately € 60) and are nothing more than two rods of 8 millimeters in diameter with a thread of 1.25, and a length of about 15 cm that allow the front to rest on them when moving forward . This video also shows how to make this tool for less than € 10.
