    Hittites are seen as a bit more humane compared to their neighbours when it came to justice and law enforcement, but then they hit you with this piece.
    We know that they usually used piglets and puppies to cleanse up, but why a prisoner?...

      I've read some academics sat that humans were only used in time of great need but equally that isn't actually attested any where. I'm guessing the probably used a prisoner of war or someone else condemned to capital punishment for whatever reason. It would be interesting if we ever find the remains of such a ritual (unlikely if it was done out in the field). Some contemporary remains from Egypt were recovered after human sacrifice and the skeletons showed no obvious signs of trauma indicating that they possibly went willingly.
