  • Schubert's Erlkönig has been used often as one of THE counterarguments against the WBMP, the Whole Beat Metronome Practice ( • How Fast did Beethoven... ). Singers would lack breath and in enlightened moments of internet wisdom, people seemed to know for a fact it even would be dangerous to try: the risk for suffocation would be immanent!
Good news for all of you is that the singer in this case is alive and kicking. And as far as for the internet wisdom: when you talk to professional singers, the answer is always the same and quite the opposite: it is the current focus on extreme speeds in our musical praxis that prevents singers from breathing. The number 1 benefit they share with us from experimenting with the WBMP, exactly is the opposite: now, FINALLY, we can BREATH. We have time to breath.
    How cool does that sound?
Up to the 9th symphony after this, shall we?
