Late to the *Dance* but man JB really lays some retros out and these certainly make the list.
Remembered the originals having that more dark grayish finish to the midsole and thinking how much better it would have been to have a metallic black instead...flash forward to the 2018s and here it is. So beautiful leather and all.

this was my favorite Js to play ball in. didn't remember about the paint issue, so it's good to learn about stuff i don't know or remember. i'm okay with the banana shape because it is what it is, but seeing the shoe in person it didn't have a quality feel to it. i can't say i wasn't tempted to buy it tho. brought back memories of those teeth thing falling apart...lol

I never knew or remember about the kids paint recall.
Not a fan of the high tongue, the creasing midsole, and the glue stains.
I do like the softer top of the tongue, that hard plastic hurt back in the day!
I thought I was bugging when I thought the tongue was really high
Thought it was interesting to see that the midsole and teeth on the tie cap were different colors between the 2 pairs.

I love mine! I ordered them in ‘18 and they came exactly on my bday! So that was a nice treat and a nice gift to myself for my bday!! So these didn’t sell out and were sittin for awhile and even went on sale I believe as well. I should’ve def bought more pairs! I always kick myself in the “you know what” bcuz I didn’t! Yah I dunno why they didn’t come in the silver OG box?! But that’s not the first time or the last time JB did something like that! 🤷♂️🤦♂️
The shape of the ankle collar on the lateral side of the retro 2018 curves more. It dips more the originals.

I Finally Hooped In My 14s, They re Nice. I Doubled Up On These Because My 05s Came Apart From Too Much Hooping & Also Working In Them

Silver box is the OG and the 2018 is the black and gold
Usually I side with the banana shape on most Jordan retro silhouettes than the OGs because I like the slimmer look but this is the first time I completely side with the OG shape with these 14s... the 2018s looked a little awkward seeing them next to the OG’s because of that curved shape which made the tongue look high... i think that’s what turned me off about the bred 13s last year which I love colorway wise but that tongue looked bad
I noticed alot of glue stains on mine. I looked at two others and the same. Didn't like that so I returned mine.

I just have a question. It's the first time that I have gotten hold of the 14's and I noticed, does the glittery looks on the teeth and on the midsole comes only on the OG's pair? Coz my 2018 pair is just shiny, not glittery
Haven’t seen enough of the retros up close since I don’t collect them but so far the glitter look is on the OG. I remember the recent Aqua 8 having glitter as well to replicate the OG.
Actually the slight "Banana Shape Change" keeps in touch with the performance shoes nowadays, I like this part.
I wish they keep modify it but in tiny bits so it can kinda keep up to nowadays shoes and retain the general retro form at the same time.
How about the heel padding and the forefoot difference? Always want to know how OG 14 feels like.
Definitely extra cushioning in the OG. The air bags were also thicker as I’ve restored a pair of OGs in the past. Would love to see the addition of “Protro” in retro Jordans just as Kobe has done for his line.

Also the lockdown on mid foot is insane and strong, might be even better than nowadays shoes.
But the heel padding is kinda incorrect and overdone on the side of the heel, hence put more stress on knee.
But if they put the why not zero.1 heel padding, shank plate move forward a little bit, then I would call this the greatest performance shoe of all time.

Great video and comparison! Does anyone know by any chance if the 2005 retros were made with the same lead paint? Or did they officially stop buying paint from that supplier after the 1999 incident with the candy canes? I'm looking to get the 2005 retros, and I really want to confirm this for sure.
1999 was the last time. There was a recall for the shoes at that point so I don’t assume they continued to use it there after. It also doesn’t emit the nasty smell the OG 14s have.
@MJO23DAN 6 Yeah that's a very good point! Iike it's pretty damn safe to say they wouldn't continue to use that supplier, obviously. Lmao 😅 But thanks so much for clearing that up for me bro! I guess I just really needed to make sure cause I heard that the 2005s also has that glossy/sparkling type of paint, and I was worried it might've had traces of lead in it or something. Is the teeth and lateral and medial midsole paint supposed to be that dark color of gray on the OG or is that due to age or paint they used?
Could be the paint they used more than the color itself.

It is but also seems more delicate than suedes used today. You can try doing an area. I’ve never tried.

My 2011 pair came with creases in the midsole . And footlocker was the only store that had my size 9.5 left , i scraped up the money by 8-9 pm that saturday and went to every store in the mall tryna get a pair. I got it but it did come creased witch i did not appreciate. To this day i dont shop at Footlocker even though it was jb fault

I don’t think the thought process over there is “I’m gonna half ass my job so I can get paid” type of thing. These people live in a communist country so it’s either work or don’t get paid. Take for example Apple. They pump out I’m sure the same amount of product as the sneaker brands. Why can they provide excellent products (made in the same country) while the manufacture of shoes can’t be exampled the same way? It’s really on the brand. I understand how terrible the working conditions of factories can be. I used to work in one as a teenager packaging Halloween costumes and it was hell. But, some things, as an outsider looking in, all we can really make are assumptions so it’s easy to point the finger and say well, the product is like this because of this. Some things we can’t exactly explain.

Lead paint is toxic no matter what level it is. All the shoes should’ve been recalled since traces of lead were present.
Agreed but they only recallled to avoid any further lawsuits . They didnt care about the adult shoes or even gs witch are bigger so more paint (with traces lead) was required . and im pretty sure plenty of kids were exposed to there parents pairs because most ppl dont store their jordans like us , most ppl just throw them in a closet mixed with a whole bunch of other shoes or leave them by the front door with all the other ppls who share the home shoes
