On "My Car Story" we're at Collectors’ Car Garage in Chicago IL at The “Cars & Cops” Event on 5-20-18.
We're looking at a 1984 Excalibur 20th Anniversary Signature Series # 48 of 50 Phaeton Roadster in White & Silver Paint.
The car's Owner is Matt Jackson. Matt’s has had the car since 2008. He shares when he was a teenager Mr. Colburn the neighbor had an Excalibur. Matt talked to Mr. Colburn about how much he liked his car, and Mr. Colburn told Matt, “If you work hard, one day you’ll own one.”
Matt remembered those words from Mr. Colburn, worked hard, stayed dedicated and focused and in 2008 purchased his “dream car”.
Way to go Matt for achieving your dream car

I love the car & I love Matt's story! Thanks for braving the rain to bring us both, Lou!
Glad you enjoy this one TheGunfighter45acp :-) You're welcome, Lou
In 1999 I purchased an 1979 Excalibur Phaeton (4 pass.) from the original owner. I kept it for 20 years. I lived in Milw. in the early 70's and visited the factory several times
. Almost 30 years later I bought the exact car I wanted and really enjoyed as long as I had it.
Hi Lawson Clark, Thank you for sharing, Lou
Black guys LOVE these cars. Mike Weaver, the famed boxer, had one of these. Went to Mike's house in Walnut, Ca. back in the early 1980s. What a nice guy. Now when I watch any of his fights on CZcams I flinch when he gets hit... because I feel bad to know how much that must've hurt.
Thank you for sharing about your friend Mike Weaver :-)
The famous wedding gown designer Yolanda Cellucci had one of these as a limo. Used to see it when I drove by her boutique.
Glad this one brought back those memories :-)
I remember seeing a few of these in my town back then. Very nice for sure!
Hi Ed B., Glad this one brings back memories for you :-) Lou
Excalibur has very interesting history as to why and when they've came to be. Not a kit car buy any means. Lots of factory made and custom vendor supplied parts. Even the Chevvy engines were made special for Excalibur and had unique Excaliber vin numqbers.

I have always wanted one of these since I was 17... that’s stylish
Glad to read you enjoy this stylish car :-)
What a neat car! Very pretty and luxurious! I can remember when I first saw one of these was back in the early eighties and my favorite detective show Matt Houston he drove one of these cars. His was a drop top and not a signature but it was really neat. I love the show Matt Houston and this car so reminds me of that show that was on in this time era that this car was made. Glad he got his dream car and thanks for sharing Lou!
Hi Steve Flad, Glad you think this one "neat" :-) Thank you for sharing your memories of this one. You're welcome, Lou

For those who love antique materials and look with a more modern car feel and performance.
You're right.
Dreams can come true , Great car !!
Yes they can :-) Glad you enjoy this one MrMatt C, Lou
Back in '87, I was working for Mecums (Eddie Sr. and Jr. Not Dana), and they had a '68 Excalibur Pheaton with a loping big block Chevy under the hood.
It had ribbon fenders, and the same paint scheme as Cruella Devil's car.
I got to drive it, and with the lope, it rocked side to side, but when I let the clutch out, it just started rolling so smoothly. I didn't even have to feather the throttle.
That was an amazing machine.
Big block? I know they came with Chevy small blocks, but maybe that one was custom.
20alphabet
As I understand it, it was a built 427.
By the way it ran, I would agree.
The only thing that I was never able to figure out is how they got that much low end torque out of it.
DrFruikenstein I think you got that wrong friend. None of these brought a big block. Even if they tried, there was no room. Early models brought a Corvette 327. I think you are confusing that with a 427
While it may be true that no Excaliburs were built new with a 427, one should keep in mind that I was employed by Mecums, and they got a lot of cars that shouldn't have existed. That Excalibur had hood bulges to make room for the front of the engine.
Dana may not have been my immediate boss, but he ran his business from the same property, and I was occasionally loaned out to him (The airport disaster of '88, for example).
That meant that I got to see a lot of cars that were "Never" built. Like a '69 four door T-bird convertible, Corvette Station wagon, and a '67 Dodge Coronet Hemi station wagon, for examples.
In that respect, it's possible for you to be 100% correct (I'm pretty sure you are), and for the Excalibur that I drove to have had the 427, which is what I was told the car had.
Wonderful memory of the fun car you drove :-)
Lou, it’s a Oldsmobile 307 5.0L same engine that came in the Cadillac brougham of that year..
Hi Jospeh Linz, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Very nice car and story behind it
Glad you enjoy this car & story Olle Haggman :-) Lou
Sweet!!
Glad you enjoy this one :-)
Definitely a neat car. I like the styling
Glad you enjoy the styling of this one Camopar87 :-) Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Rare car and antique looking for 1984!
Hi John, Agreed that was a classic even when new :-) Lou
Lou Costabile, it's interesting. Anyway, just go to my channel and veiw my video on a Camaro... Yep. Excalibur had creative ideas in the 80s to make 30s cars more safer
Nice :)
Glad you enjoy this one :-)
The Excalibur is quite a parts bin car. Lots of GM drivetrain, AC & trim pieces. Some Chrysler parts. Plus, are those VW Super Beetle front turn signals? Great stuff, Lou!
Glad you enjoy this video jm watches :-) Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Hey Lou. Awesome looking car. I've heard of the Excalibur car. I've never seen one in person, I'm afraid.
Hey Jason, Glad to share one you've heard of :-) Here is one more for you without the rain. Enjoy! Lou czcams.com/video/-r8yPDIKadY/video.html And how about a ride :-) czcams.com/video/WkIm7ctz5ug/video.html
Thanks, I'll check them out. Rain or no rain, it's fun to check out cars. :)
I remember these when they were made back in the 80's. If my memory serves me correctly, these were made with a mishmash of different parts from several manufacturers. I personally think they are a bit gaudy and not much of a collectable car but I respect that everyone loves different things in life.
Hi Kenneth White, Thank you for viewing and sharing your memories on this car :-) Lou
Gawdy, yes. On a GOOD day they were gawdy, any other day they were merely outlandish.
Gaudy really? It's a cool car imo. Different. It's styling is based on the Art Deco era Mercedes Benz.
Imo the hard top hurts the styling lines. They look much better with their standard soft top.
In the UK we had Panther cars which produced retro automobiles
Nice guy, even nicer car!
Hi Max Power, Win / Win :-) Lou
Sweet
:-)
I remember these. Weren't they basically a kit car running on a modified Caprice chassis?
Todd Wall nope not a kit car. It was actually based on a Studebaker chassis (Hawk/Avanti) and used GM engines.
Hi Todd, I recall them being there own car. I do recall kits trying to look like an Excaliber. Lou
That's cool like the stutz the ghost close the hood's
Hi Paul T McNulty, Wonder if they take this one out and "Ghost Ride" it too? Lou
Beautiful car. I've owned my 1973 Excalibur Phaeton for 23 years now. Every time I open the garage and see it I fall in love. I hope to find an Excalibur V sedan to drive.
