- Witches’ marks, ritual protection symbols or apotropaic marks, have been found in many historic places, from medieval churches and houses to barns and caves.
The word 'apotropaic' comes from the Greek word for averting evil. The marks were usually scribed onto stone or woodwork near a building’s entrance points, particularly doorways, windows and fireplaces, to protect inhabitants and visitors from witches and evil spirits.
They date back to times when belief in witchcraft and the supernatural was widespread. Magical symbols and ritual objects were a common part of life from around the 16th to the early 19th century.

For the flower of life, aka the magdala, is it 4 rings or 5 or 6 that makes it protection versus growth versus virility? I’m curious to know the alchemical difference that results in different effects by the choice of adding or subtracting circles drawn.... because I feel intuitively that 6 is virility where as 4 is strength so protection. And 5... well that feels like growth, spiritually, like a water lily vibe- pink and small courses of yellow.
The 7th circle seems to be an artistic choice to bring focus as I do not feel it makes a difference... unless it is 5 circles creating the flower and the 6th one to center the magdala is drawn and then it does feel like power. I can feel that, definitely more energetic. But 7th seems too much, almost like for show? Or maybe I’m just personally limited to 5 due to my level to comprehend and create. Or it could just be my level of realm that I’m apart of to create from that specific source as a form of strength instead of viewing it as a weakness. So I can’t say that I can draw it with 6 or 7 circles and tell you what it feels for me by my experience because I cannot. I won’t cheat and try to copy it to make it exact to say that I can do it, that ruins the fun of strength.
My running theory on these is as such: as in numerology, the power of 3 can indicate the varying differences of repetition. The intent behind such drawings and calculations are what then powers the sigil. Words hold power and repetition provides strengthening to that degree, so the more copies of 3 you add the more specific and broad you can become in your intention, and thus more versatile protection. A shield is most effective when it is capable of protecting the object more fully. The power of three is also a deep witch/pagan belief that dates back centuries, likely even to the century in which those sigils were being created. Depending on your knowledge of runes and psalms/ chants, mantras etc, the more focused the protection. By using runes you give identification to the intention. In this too you would seek a harmonious balance from 1 to 3 runes to cover a specific branch of protection. Doing so adds multiple layers to them while still leaving them mathematically correct and geometrically aligned. So to answer your question, the more the better, it's only limited to how much you are capable of blending together
