- After a failed attempt to upload a video clip version of this video due to copyright issues, here is the same video but with pictures instead of video clips. I got to thinking and wondering how many actors who appeared in Morse then turned up in Lewis or Endeavour, so, I put together this video. It is rather comprehensive but I may have missed someone. . It does not include those actors who appeared in Lewis and then Endeavour. Hopefully you will all enjoy the video.
UPDATE:
A big thanks to my friend Sue Jefferies who pointed out an omission in my video. That omission was the actor Danny Webb who played not only DS Arthur Lott in the Endeavour pilot episode in 2012 but also appeared in the pilot episode of the Lewis series in 2006 as Tom Pollock.
New Update: First time two actors have appeared in all three series,
The two actors are Andrew Paul and Richard Durden. Andrew Paul appeared in the Morse episode, Deceived by Flight, the Lewis episode, Intelligent Design as Ron Tibitt and the Endeavour episode Quartet as Joe Dozier. Richard Durden appeared in the first Morse episode Dead of Jericho, the Lewis episode The Soul of Genius and the Endeavour episode Quartet.

This video is terrific, a must for anyone who loves Morse and happily moved on to Lewis and Endeavour. I've been going through -once again - my boxed set of Morse. Such extraordinary actors -Massey, Campbell, Pickup, Allam, Callow ... Great to see they've been all gainfully employed through the years.
We all age variously, and styles change, but the casting and acting in the 3 series was always first class. Much gratitude for making these fascinating connections.
Judy 🤗🙏🌼
What a wonderful video. Thanks for this as those TV shows are great favourites of mine.
Now that l am able to leave comments, l decided to rewatch this so l could say, as a fan of Lewis, Endeavour, and a HUGE Morse/John Thaw fan, l really enjoyed this. I love how many actors wanted to be a part of the continued quality we enjoy from all 3 titles. For those without cable now, it's too bad we cannot see the complete series of Lewis & Endeavour on CZcams, but l am glad l have been able to revisit all of Morse!- Lots of research & work putting this together, so many thanks!😀👍
I see your comment is from a year ago. I am up to Series 6 of Lewis on CZcams. Not sure yet if they have all 9 series - I am working my way through in order. But maybe take another look if you haven't already and are still interested; they might all be there now. No luck with Endeavour yet, though as far as I can see.
They've all done the rounds on their detective programs.. Midsommer, Morse, Lewis, Poirot, Marple...
Fabulous! Thank you so much. I have all episodes/seasons of Morse, Lewis and Endeavour. Would have loved seasons of Hathaway. Just need a writer!
I just sat here with my jaw dropped! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I have been hoping for a Hathaway series, but obviously that isn't going to happen.
Several actors from Lewis are on Sherlock too!
No, Laurence Fox is pretty well unemployable in the UK nowadays!
I’m afraid that a Hathaway series would be hobbled by Fox’s persistent current public utterances about racism, sexism and nationalism. The time honored dictum of “less is more” no longer applies to younger actors. I think we take such solace in class actors like Morse and his long-suffering aid. I don’t know what either actor thought about world events…and don’t care. This left me free to enjoy their fictional characters…and watch them decade after decade. BTW - much thanks for this compilation. What a joy these actors have been!
@@jeffreycrawley1216 Guess I've been out of the loop, & will have to Google it, cuz I'm not aware of what happened with Mr. Fox.
I have spotted a few but you really got some minor characters. I am currently binging on revisiting LEWIS. am noticing lots of nice details.
Me too !! Still one of my very favorite shows.
Great work in covering these series. I saw a few Morsh episodes but never a full series (work, Deployments overseas etc). Came across Endeavour trailer on you tube, and ordered the four seasons available at the time, then binge watched them in just less than a week lol, (I’m retired). Reminded me of Morse so of course I had to get that series to binge and finally just finished binge watched the Lewis series. In Morse there are Actors whom I recognized from other things, but I was actually surprised in the face changes over there acting career of people who I did not recognize from there Morse episodes, but recognized then immediately as actors I enjoyed in their other works. Many thanks for all the great work you do in tying all three series together, here and your website.
Thank you so much for sharing the three series! Great work! Morse, Lewis and Endeavour - great series.
This is terrific BUT have you considered recutting utilizing a split-screen? You could have the roles listed in 1/2 screen boxes followed by the photos. As it is the time lag between seeing 1st pic and the second is more than I would love.
I really enjoyed this! Thanks for putting this together and the music was beautiful.
Wonderful compilation…and the music is sublime..
nice choice of Senza Mamma from Puccini's Suor Angelica played in Second Time Around. saw this opera at the Royal Opera House several years ago as part of the Il Trittico production by Richard Jones
And the wonderful voice of Lucia Popp makes it even more awesome!
I appreciated the concept, & the great effort that must have gone into compiling all of it...I'm always noticing familiar faces while watching various shows (especially British ones), & wondering where I've seen the actor before...or just knowing, & shouting it out! One thing I'd like to see listed would be the years of the episodes. Finally, I know I'm in the minority, but I'm not an opera fan (unlike Morse), so I had to turn the volume way down😉 I enjoyed it anyway. Thx.
So nice to see the actors aging gracefully. If these were American TV series, the actors would not have aged, just "plasticized". :-(
This is great ! I remember watching filming of Driven to Distraction in and around a bookshop in Hitchin Hertfordshire very exciting as a great Morse fan now and then thanks for posting !
Bravissimoooo, thank you!!!!
One of many things that I love about British television or indeed the acting community is that perhaps due to the smaller size than in the U.S. one tends to see actors appear in many roles. I used to see more often I think on American television. For example, when watching reruns of the long-running series, Perry Mason you will see actors reappearing over and over in completely different roles.
Nice - I was thinking that "Characters from Inspector Morse/Lewis who turn up in Endeavour" (Hathaway's dad, Copley-Barnes, Lord Tony etc) would make a great follow-up video...
Although strictly speaking not an actor, Colin Dexter made cameo appearances in all three series. It would have been nice to include him!
I have made videos of Colin's appearances which can be found on my youtube channel or on my website; morseandlewisandendeavour.com/
Nice!!
On a trip to London in 1993, I guess I saw it in the Standard, Colin Dexter was appearing at a Waterstones in the City signing his book of stories "Morse's Greatest Mystery (and other stories)"; I was second or third on line and he was very pleasant and signed my copy. Like Alfred Hitchcock, it was great to find him in the Morse programs, but I've never seen him in 'Lewis' or 'Endeavor'.
@@wetherby6774 Awesome experience! Thanks for sharing! 💛
Thank you very much for your effort!
Well done, really well done! As fan of two of the shows it was wonderful. Some I would never have recognized !!
I think Anna Massey's 2nd appearance wasn't in the Lewis pilot, but in "Whom the God's would Destroy. . ." She was the Greek tutor for Platt, and the other murderous conspirators. She translated Lewis' list of Greek characters into phone numbers.
Excellent compilation BTW.
You are right- l just finished rewatching that episode!
She did that little part so darn well. I could really see her being an Oxford prof !!
Did I miss Clare Holman, the coroner on both Morse AND Lewis...actually winds up with Lewis???
Yes. That was developed very nicely. It's a pleasure to go back and see her earlier work after I vesting in that storyline.
I didn’t remember seeing her..
Thanks
Great trivia for the fans Thanks!
It was great to see Gina McKee all punked out as girl in betting shop after seeing her in her usual , spare, refined beauty playing Irene in Forsyte saga. Reeling in the years. ;).
Just saw Gina McKee in Morse last night and wondered how many other other actors had doubled up. CZcams really does read your mind.
As an aside, on ITV 3 I watched Lewis (S2,E1), then DCI Banks (S1, E1&2) and then Inspector Morse (S1, E3). Almost the full cast of Drop the Dead Donkey!
Thé brits seem to stay together as a sort of rep company in general. Fun to see and play along with them. It’s a star spotting sport. ;).
Spot who was in Brideshead Revisited, too. Jonathan Coy, Diana Quick and Richard Hope (not mentioned her but in Endeavour recently). Maybe others I can’t recall without more viewing
Did anyone else count how many of the faces played 'coppers' in other TV series's, not just one episode but a main character? I spotted at least 9
You have left out James Laurenson. He appeared in Inspector Morse, The Dead of Jericho as Tony Richards and in Endeavour, Game as Professor George Amory.
The first guy (Alan Durden?) was in endeavour too, don't forget.
I made this video before the Endeavour episode was broadcast. Here is my post on my website about Richard Durden's appearance in Endeavour. morseandlewisandendeavour.com/2018/03/04/its-happened-actors-appearing-in-all-3-morse-series/
Although not strictly relevant Angela Griffin appeared in Lewis. She also appeared in a us tv series called the "the detail" in major role.
💝💝💝
i reckon that caroline o neils character in moonbeams kiss the sea is the granddaughter of DCI Fred Thursday from Endeavour
The photo of what is supposedly Anna Wilson-Jones as Stanza Massey in Fearful Symmetry appears to be of Lucy Cohu playing Marion Hammond, also Fearful Symmetry. Not a good photo of her, though.
I agree with Hugh.
You're correct. They got the last one wrong.
What is this background music
I might be mistaken, but didn't Andrew Paul appear as a shop owner abusing his wife in Endeavour?
I made a post about abour Andrew Paul and Richard Durden being the first two actors to appear in all three Morse series in a post on my websits.
@@kitsullivan1583 ok cool, thanks for that.
Did you forget Kevin Whately? Clare Holman?
No, of course not.
I have no idea why Lucia Popp’s version of “Senza Mamma” was chosen....it’s truly awful!! The soprano who sang in the episode was Janis Kelly, and her interpretation is one of the best I’ve ever heard. Many of the photos were disappointing, as well, bc I couldn’t see the faces of the actors.
In 'your' opinion it's awful but that doesn't mean it is. If you couldn't see the faces of the actors then you need a bigger screen.
@@kitsullivan1583 😯
Wasn’t Abigail thaw in both? Child actor in morse then in endeavour
No.
Morse and endeavour are the same thing, it's a series baced on endeavour Morse
It's TWO different shows about the same character. Do you really think I don't know the shows are about the character, Endeavour Morse?
No, Endeavour has way too much game to turn into Morse.
