Tinawagan ako ng pinsan ko dahil hinahanap daw ako ng Nanay ko. Kasalukuyan siya naka confine noon sa Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. Umuwi lang ako nun para matulog saglit at kumuha ng ilang mga gamit.
Pag dating ko sa hospital, nakita kong kinukuhanan sya ng dugo para sa panibagong round ng blood testing. Pero this time, kakaiba na ang reaction nya. Drama Queen si Nanay tuwing tintutusok sya dati ng karayom pero this time nakatulala lang sya at walang reaksyon.
Maya maya pa, tinawag ako ng Doctor tapos tinanong.
Kung ano man po ba ang mangyari sa pasyente, papayag pa po ba kayong patubuhan at irevive?
Ngumiti lang ako ng mapait at sinabing, ayoko na pong dagdagan ang paghihirap nya. Kung aalis na sya, hahayaan ko na po sya. Hindi ko na sya pipigilan.
11:30 AM, paulit ulit nyang tinatawag ang pangalan ko. Ren, Ren, Ren, kahit na nasa tabi lang nya ako.
Nasabi ko na lang...
Nay, andito lang ako sa tabi mo. Magpahinga ka na Nanay. Wag mo na akong isipin. Ang laki laki ko na eh. 29 na ako. 4 minutes after, she breath her last and finally joined our creator. Her battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia is over. Her pain is over.
Much as I wanted, hindi ako nakaiyak nung moment na yun. Sunod sunod na kasi ang pangyayari. Being the only child, ako lahat ang nagaasikaso. Thankfully andyan yung pinsan ko however, she cannot make decisions naman.
I had to prepare everything after her passing. So the entire time, even during the burol, my mind was pre-occupied with things na hindi ko na nagawang mag emote.
When everything was over and I finally got back home, i decided to clean the house. Magpalit ng mga kurtina at mga sapin ganyan. Nung pagtanggal ko ng sapin ng sofa kung san sya natutulog, may nalaglag na papel. At ang mga nakasulat ay yung mga instruction ko kung ano oras nya iinumin yung mga gamot nya. Lagi ko kasi siyang pinapagalitan nung buhay pa sya. Pumapasok kasi ako sa work nun at naiiwan syang magisa sa bahay maghapon. Tapos paguwi ko, hindi pa nya naiinom yung gamot nya.
I lost it there. 2 days ata akong hindi nakapasok, iniyak ko lang lahat. Lahat ng regrets ko, lahat ng mga what ifs at what could have been.
For most of my life, kaming dalawa ang magkasama. My father left us when I was 4 yrs old. Binalak ni Nanay mag abroad noon, kaso hindi nya itinuloy dahil sa pangamba na baka hindi ako tratuhin ng maayos ng pagiiwanan nya sakin. Instead, namasukan syang katulong dito sa Manila kasama ako. Pinalaki at pinag aral nya ako habang nagtratrabaho bilang isang kasambahay.
On top of all that, when I was 21 yrs old, i learned na hindi pala nya ako tunay na anak. Na inampon lang pala nya ako. Kaya pala ganun yung pangamba nya na hindi ako tratuhin ng maayos ng pagiiwanan nya sakin. She sacrificed her life for me na hindi naman nya tunay na anak.
Kaya sobrang tagos tong MAPA nato kasi nung sinabi ko sa kanya yung mga salitang, magpahinga ka na, kaya ko na, malaki na ako, 29 na ako. She stopped calling for me. At naramdaman ko na somehow, lumalaban lang sya sa sakit nya dahil ayaw nya akong iwan dahil hindi sya sigurado kung paano ako pag nawala sya, just like how she sacrificed her work abroad for me. I guess hearing that, napanatag na ang loob nya and she finally gave up the fight.

This is a masterpiece written by Pablo in collaboration with the rest of SB19.
This is a love letter to our parents. For some if not most, we barely tell our parents how we feel inside. This masterpiece will help us do another move to tell them how much we value and love them.
In the song, “we will never get lost because we have the Mapa (Map)”. The map represent our parents. The things they taught us, the sacrifices, the advice they give and hardships. We will never get lost so long as we have the Map (Map).
In the Filipino culture, we children have great regard to our parents / elderly. Most of us we would want to give back. Times wherein we just want our parents to stay still and its time for us (children) to do the rest. We want them to rest from the days and time they give and sacrifices for us.
This song hits the hardest if we have those regrets if not being able to give back and let them rest from those tiring days they spent for us. Regrets prolly due to some unforeseen events. Event where they can no longer hear our “thank you” and gratefulness towards them. Regrets prolly because we don’t have the capability yet of returning the favor (though they never ask for it). Regrets prolly because we are far from them and this pandemic is hindering us of being with them or for any reason.
Normally our parents (MaPa) would not share how hard life is, they would not tell us how tight things are. They would always keep inside them the struggles they are facing and normally they will always show their happy face for us not to worry. First part of the song, Justin talks about how our parents (MaPa) prioritize us in all aspects. In the Filipino culture, remember the day when you as a kid cries asking for a balloon and our parent would graciously get some coins and buy one for you. That moment we can only see the our happiness for getting what we simply want, but we cannot see their smile because we are happy with a simple thing.
Josh’s part where he heed the memories and advise his (a) father gave him. That even though they are not together he promised of keeping them. Remember a milestone in our lives, our first step as a baby? Those gently hands guiding not just our ways but most making sure that if we fall, they are there willing to Catch and pick us up and encourage us to try again.
For Single parents out there, you both the Ma and Pa. you alone is the Mapa.
For those OFW parents (MaPa) doing the great sacrifices for their Kids, Salute! Those OFW Kids making every effort to provide and give back their MaPa’s, Salute.
Watching this masterpiece brings me home every time. Let’s not wait for the time where we regret.. call them now and let them know how much we love and treasure them.

When my Mom was already critical and already in pain. I know she is just holding on because she don't want to leave us yet. Not the exact words but I whisper to her ear that we are okay. She can rest now.
It has been 3 years now and the pain is still the same.

Tumawag yung tita ko kahapon na nasa States dahil nangamusta siya samin tapos sinabihan ko siya na pakinggan niya yung MAPA, so ayun nakikinig siya habang nasa telepono pa rin. It's already been 15 years since my lola (her mom) passed away and naging emosyonal din siya kase everytime na nagme-May na naaalala niya si lola kase birthday nito sa May 20. Iyak lang siya ng iyak habang magka-usap pa rin kami at nandun din yung regret sa voice niya kung kelan daw kaya na niyang ibigay lahat ng pangangailangan ay hindi na niya nagawa dahil maagang nawala. My mom passed away when I was 8, that also the time when papa visit us and after a week he also left for work but what we didn't know was that he would never come back. Now I'm 22 still longing and looking for him coz he's all we have in this world. But one thing is for sure even though my parents wasn't on our side when we were growing up we always chose to be kind even the world was so cruel to us. We always chose to do right. MAPA hits different coz I never listen to the song without crying and the feeling of being empty hunts me..

Agree, iba kasi culture natin. Family oriented mga Pinoy kaya ganun yung attachment natin sa mga magulang natin. Kapag kumikita tayo mga magulang natin kaagad iniisip ng mga anak "mostly".
Map is a guide to a certain or specific location/direction/place(s) while MAPA is the Tagalog word for Map. MAma & PApa (parents) is our own life's or lives Map who GUIDE(D) or our guidance since young. For the line "ipikit ang yong mata, pahinga ka muna" i think it's literally not related to death but rather it's like when we need some break or rest, we usually close our eyes & take a deep breath first.
Lata rata actually means goodbye or signing off....
I miss my parents kc wla na cla mtagal na... Ung papa ko 1990, he was 60 tpos ung mama ko 2012, she was 82. Kya napapaiyak tlga ako kc naalala ko ung pgmamahal at pg aruga nla sa amin. Salamat sb19 sa awit na ito. 😪😪😪❤️💙

My Papa died 16years ago. He died young. Sya yung nagpupush sa amin magkakapatid to excel. Strict sya, di sya malambing, pero kahit na ganun alam ko sobrang mahal nya kami (shuta hagulgul na ako dito). Sakto yung lines talaga ni Josh. Hinanda kami ng papa sa buhay. Pero alam nyu yung mas masakit para sakin ay yung hindi man lang nakasama ng bunso namin ng matagal si Papa. Di nya naexperience talaga yung magkaroon ng Papa.

Hindi talaga ako iyakin in terms of listening into ballad songs like this pero lam niyo yon, with such simple word usage/choice of words, makikita mo yung enchantment sa whole message of the song.

I guess this is subjective since songs are very much open to interpretation. Our interpretations are dependent on what we've experienced in life.

@@BingeCZcams777 While it is possible that it is for parent figures, we also have people that did not really have any form of parental figure growing up. So I guess when we say it's not just for biological parents, we cannot take away the hurt people feel when they think of the song.

Since parents are always looking after the families welfare... my take on " pikit ang mata" is more of saying relax don't worry it's my time to look after your responsibility.
Mean po relax sila muna lahat ng hirap nila ipikit na lang then kami na ang bahala tahan na parang inaalo mo po sila para mapagaan yung kanilang pakiramdam

Yung iba, iniisip nila na retirement plan daw sila, but they didn't know na lahat ng ginawa nila para satin din yun, and kahit naman maggive back tayo it's not enough kung anong hardship at ginawa nila para sayo, Selfless ka na lang talaga pag-iisipin mong retirement plan ka.
I think it's not only for dying or died, it's also to a person na nagpursige to achieve his goal and suddenly kaya na niya i sustain ang parents. Ngayon ang gusto niya siya naman ang bahala to provide for them and family. Since hindi naman niya ma achieve yun kung hindi dahil sa MaPa na naging Mapa to achieve yung goal.
When I heard the song for the first time, the first phrases already hit me. My Parents Migrated in the US for 11 Years now. This hits me hard because I missed them so much. I am just happy that the're doing okay and already bought their own house now. I am so proud of them. Me and my siblings told them to stop sending money or packages and just keep their money from their own since we all have our own jobs. I agree with Harry that no matter what, we will always take the oportunity to give back all the hard ships that they have done and cherish them more. Thanks guys and more power to Matt Summer TV! OT5 MAHALIMA.. godbless po OT3.. bias ko po kayong 3..

Some viewers commented that the Papa part was purposely given for Josh to sing although he grew up without a father and even Ken had no father influence because he was raised by his lola. So the message is that even if you cannot relate to having parents, the song still applies as a tribute to anyone in your life who stood as your guardian, inspiration, friend, your MAPA so to speak, who helped bring you up, teach you, take care of you or inspire you to become the person that you are now.

Ngaun ko lang pinanuod kasi simula kagabi at kaninang umaga hanggang tanghalian iyak na ako ng iyak tatahan pero maga ang mata hindi man nakikinig pero biglang iiyak pag kinakanta yung lata rata part. Ung tipong pinaka kamalian na akong heartbroken dahil sa pagkalugmok ko kanina pa. Kaya nag stop muna ako manood ng mga rv at mag stream sa lyrics video at makinig sa Spotify, para maihanda ko yung sarili ko pag nanood na ako ng mga rv. Pero Yung nanood ako na HINDI NAKA EARPHONE at katabi ko mama ko nilakasan ko para marinig nya hehhe paramdam lang. Nahihiya kasi ako iparinig sa kanila ito hindi pa talaga ako handa pero ginawa ko. Sinadya kong rv nyo ang pa panoorin ko pag katabi ko mama or papa ko kasi magaganda ang mga input nyo na hindi ko kayang ipaliwanag sa kanila. Thank you for this ❤️❤️❤️
