  • For female singers who want to learn to sing with more power, American Star Academy vocal instructor Cari Cole brings you this great warmup video. If you can pull these drills off, you'll have built up great endurance and stamina, and you'll be building a powerful voice to drive great performances.
    Working with Jacqueline, a female student, you'll see several of the rock drills and exercises performed correctly, so you'll know how it should sound. You'll learn how to take deep, full breaths to support the long notes, and you'll be reminded of some common mistakes, like glottling and fading. Then, Cari goes one-on-one with you, and runs you through more scales, coaching you into great habits that will help you build the rockin' voice you want.
    Running time: 14:30

    Unfortunately - long singing phrases do not create "stramina" for Rock singing. A relaxed vocal mechanism does. Stamina is often approached by vocal coaches as is if it's related to body building - "more is better". Stamina in the voice is not about singing for longer but singing more relaxed in the throat. The more the body and breath take the brunt of the work, the less the voice has to do to work properly.
    And what does Cari know about Rock singing? - she's never done it.
    Don't get me wrong, I like Cari but she's not a vocal teacher, she's an artist developer.

    • @AmericanStarVideo
      @AmericanStarVideo  Před 9 lety +6

      Kevin Richards Rock the Stage NYC Kevin - appreciate your comments very much. Of course, we welcome varied opinions, and you obviously disagree with Cari's approach. However, we have found that practice does indeed make perfect, and practicing longer phrasing, better breathing and good technique can only lead to improvement in those exact areas. You're spot-on with a more relaxed throat, but that too comes only through practicing the technique.
      Cari is an accomplished vocalist, a splendid voice teacher and an artist development coach and we're thrilled to have her with American Star Academy.

    • @TotalSinging
      @TotalSinging Před 9 lety +2

      AmericanStarVideo Practice make consistent. There's no such thing as "perfect".
      I've been teaching voice and performing for over 25 years. I know what it takes. But you learn things over the years and while long phrases are great for certain things like phrasing, consistency of tone, volume balance they don't lead to "stamina". That is achieved through a relaxed vocal mechanism.
      I know who Cari is and while I respect her abilities as a teacher and artists developer, this video is perpetuating a myth medical science has discounted. And to be fair, Cari is NOT a rock singer so she has little, if any, knowledge of what it takes to sing the genre with any stamina.

      She never said that long singing phrases creates stamina.

    • @CariColeVoiceMusicCo
      @CariColeVoiceMusicCo Před 6 lety +13

      Hey Kevin Richards, Wow --- you are actually mistaken. First, I sang rock for years in a band called Fallen Angels - which is what led me to training to strengthen my voice. We were courted by Geffen records back in the 80's. Second, you’ve obviously never heard my record Circle of Fire which was on the Grammy ballots for Best Pop Vocal Performance and sold over 50,000 records available on Spotify and all digital platforms. Third, the one pitch exercise develops tone, control, power and endurance holding notes. Fourth, I am a celeb vocal coach, artist developer and music mentor with over 3 decades running a successful business that has helped thousands of singers and artists sign record deals and further their careers. Fifth, I remember when my lawyer had to send you a "Cease and Desist" letter when you stole one of my blogs and posted it as your own several years ago, claiming one of your Associate teachers put it up without your knowledge... I’m not sure why you are interested in dissing one of your fellow vocal coaches, but your comments are unfortunately uninformed and quite negative. I am willing to forgive your ignorance with an apology, but please stick to what you know and stop bashing people that are out there working hard to help musicians. I'm sure you have better things to do with your time and energy.
