My Madison lived until 14 years old. Around 10, I noticed she started to sleep more. At 11, she started going deaf and she developed mild liver disease at 12, but never had heart disease. She was still excited to go outside for short walks and to greet people in the neighborhood and especially enjoyed having people over. In the last year of her life, she slept quite a bit. Toward the end of her life, she lost a lot of weight. She would only eat her treats and French fries. At that point, I said to hell with the diet. I will give her what she wants, and I am glad I did. I loved her more than life.. People can judge, but I don't care. Madison was my heart dog. I am crying as I am writing this, but what I want to say is do what you feel she wants as she ages. Enjoy every moment with her. You might have to protect Herky from Oasis if he accidently gets too rough with her. Herky is a beautiful dog and probably has many years ahead of her. Just shower her with kisses and hugs.

Oh Sweetheart! ❤My Cavalier is almost 16 years old, and I sometimes feel like her "age care provider". lol. She can't do the stair on her own anymore, her food needs to be "munched", she is sometimes unstable on her feet and lands on her poop when going to the toilet. But I love her and this is what we sign up for. Better or worse.

I remember the thoughts and emotions I had with my Cavaliers when they got to a similar age as Herky, the thoughts of the dreaded countdown to the inevitable. I turned my thoughts into a positive at the time by thinking that I was so lucky to be sharing part of my life with them. Now they are no longer in my life I'll never forget the love, happy and cherished memories of time spent with them.

I just lost my Scarlet at 13. She was a carbon copy of Herky!! About 9 she really slowed down a lot and got white faced. 6 months prior to loosing her she started going deaf. Happened in a couple of weeks.
I noticed it and started using hand signals. She picked up on the hand motions quick. From my experience this is probably normal. Love your Herky and cherish the moments as long as you can!!!!
Love your channel. Thanks and wish u the best. Dennis in Texas

Exactly the same for my Rosie. 8yrs old coming on 9. She's definately started slowing down a bit and not waking up sometimes when we come home after being out. She's my world & it's sad to know they won't always be there so just make the most for whatever short time we are blessed to have them.

My Louis is a Blenheim, no heart issues, but has some hearing and sight loss. Only got sleepy this past year he is 14 years and seven months, been to vets today for check up, constant weight, doing fine. Like humans, everyone is different, but I agree you need to know your own dog like the back of your hand. At 6 months he had a major operation for an internal cyst and I was told, it would either shorten his life or he would be weak for his age . It never happened. Anything over the years I've had checked out immediately and here he is today. You are right to notice changes in Herkey Teach her hand signals if she doesn't know them already, it will serve her well. Take care and enjoy every moment.

You could be describing me. :) Yes, when we get older, we go through many changes. We've had three Cavaliers, Charlie, Campo and Farley and they all slowed down as they got older. One of the first signs I noticed, was (our first boy, Charlie) not wanting to complete his walks, at times. My Vet told me to just pay attention to Charlie and let him decide if he wanted to turn around and go back home, or not. My suggestion is to just enjoy the "mellowness", as it has it's perks. We now have two puppies, age 3 months and 4 months, and I sometimes miss my mellow boys. :)

I noticed my baby Percy going downhill when he gave throaty coughs, & stood to the side of the door wanting to go out instead of at the door. The throaty coughs, I used a humidifier for a while, that’s all I could do. My baby Molly, I noticed she had idiopathic vestibular syndrome when I was pulling an all nighter, & at 3am she coughed up blood. It was the one time I was glad I was up then. I also lived with my parents then, & immediately told them.

Our first cav was a rescue at the ripe old age of 10 and since he was also our first dog, I just assumed all dogs were cuddly and sleepy all the time! Our second rescue was a shihtzu who is now 11 and he is very sleepy and cuddly! But he loves his walks and honestly has the energy of a puppy when he’s outside! He never played with toys until we brought home our second cavalier who loves toys, and he cannot stand to be left out of anything so now he loves toys too! 😂 I have noticed that some days he wants more calories than usual so I will just make him an extra fresh gently cooked meal. He’s hasn’t gained any weight even though he takes in more calories which doesn’t seem to make much sense but for whatever reason, he just gets hangry sometimes! I think as long as they’re eating nutritious healthy foods, an extra meal is well deserved at their ripe old age if they need it! 🥰

You can't deny that Herky is getting older and slower, she is 63 in Dog years (it's true I'm sorry!) however she is still healthy and it's natural for them to slow down. You look after Herky and Milton so well and I still love watching Herky and her adventures! I do prefer a sit down video but if the vlog is quicker because you are busy, a mix of vlogs and sit down videos are good for me. Much love to you all! ❤X

Our Blenheim Ollie will be 7 in December. He still does walks, zoomies and other physical activities, just not as long or as many. The vet says he has arthritis in his left shoulder and that is why he doesn't jump off the bed or couch anymore. We got stair sets so he gets up and down without pain. Like all of us, we wish our pups could live longer. We have lost 5 pups that were with us before Ollie. We take comfort in knowing they are waiting for us across the Rainbow Bridge!

I got my Cavalier after seeing Herky's early videos many many years ago, so they are noth similar in ages. My Ippo stopped playing with toys and such when she was 3-4 years old, only plays catch with me and nothing else.. For the last year, it feels like she is not aged but bored with all that, and matured immensely. Literally does nothing wrong, no accidents, obeys all commands all times, still eager to act funny to make me laugh since then. But I believe it would be appropriate to install dog stairs to couch and beds, I caught her collecting all her strength to make a huge jump from my bed to the toilet carpet which she could do without a second thought 2 years ago. Those tiny joints started hurting I guess :( Nevertheless, both Ippo and Herky are still atlethic and healthy, let's keep them that way sis 🤞🤞

My cav Laila turned 11 this year. And she's reaaaally into being slow.
So, here's what I had as signs of age:
    - she's hearing worse and worse. And she wasn't amazing to start with. Currently, she's hearing clapping and childs screams/laughter (high, loud). Other than that? Not so much
    - She's having moments of not knowing, what she wanted from me. Coming up to me, asking for something, but then unable to tell me, what she wants (she did that before, like walk me to the place where we normally do something or where something is she could want). She still does it occasionally, but less often now. It kinda feels like with old people, just being restless.
    - She's slowing down on walks. Like, we need 30 minutes for 500m, when we would need like 10 only a year ago.
    - She's had 4 epileptic fits in the last year. She's on medication now.
    - Some health issues have worsend little by little. Like a dry eye now, that she didn't have as a younger dog.
    - Her bones can be felt more easily, same as with Herky. Guess, it's the same as with older people.
    - She's up to playing a lot less and for a shorter duration. Not that she was playing a lot with other dogs, but with me.
    - She tends to sleep deeper more often, but she did have a very sound sleep as a young dog already. But also, getting up is getting harder on her, at least from deep slumber. I'm waking her up before heading to bed myself, to have a real short walk for her to take a pee. (it takes like 2 minutes, get out of the bulding, walk a few meters, pee, and back in). She really doesn't want to even walk to the door at night anymore. I often pick her up and carry her (also down the steps, which she only walks herself on very good days anyhow, for like, dunno, a year now? We'll see our vet regarding arthiritis after their break)
She's still enjoying life a lot and that all that really matters, does it?
